Thanks for your insights. Had a 3 day business trip and it held out well. Gonna keep it I think as my primary driver for the time being.
I like the looks of the blade but I have to import it and I dont want to deal with potential issues in that case. Also it is more expensive.
The Triton does perform very well under heavy load and my temps stay nicely under 90c with okay fan noise.

Some people have said the stock180w power supply doesn't supply enough to power it while under high load, was wondering if the 230w one from the triton 700 be compatible with the 500?
-
Just curious, I actually exchanged my first Triton 500 for it, but both had it, is the right side hinge cover sticking out slightly? It was the same on both units that I had.
-
Mine does drain ever so slightly *if* I have a laptop cooler running under it (thus giving the system more thermal overhead). Otherwise the system generally sits right at the edge of what the 180w power supply can provide. I've curbed the drain a bit in this situation by putting a more aggressive undervolt on the CPU, but the problem persists.
While I don't own a Triton 700, I compared pictures and it doesn't look like the plugs would be compatible. I've contacted Acer about it (after seeing similar situations around the web of people getting bigger PSUs supplied for this same issue, tho none specifically with Acer) and they elevated me to the next level of support, but I've unfortunately been playing phone tag with the rep all week. -
Ive just run a light benchmark on the gpu and it seems the Rtx 2080 Max Q in the Acer Triton 500 does go up to 90w when boosting. i have also applied a 150mhz overclock on the gpu and 500mhz on the memory and it seems to run ok. if I increase to 200mhz it freezes. Interestingly i am unable to unlock the voltage control. Has anyone succeeded in doing this as i believe with a little more voltage it could be overclocked higher still.
boost is showing over 1700mhz
Im contemplating applying the 90w bios to see what effect it has on the wattage overall. Will it increase the wattage to over 100 on boost.Attached Files:

This is my bios compared to the Msi. As you can see the are some difference including texture fill rate and bandwidth. Can anyone tell me if the 90w bios is compatible as from what I can see I would say not.

The 180W power brick might limit a 90w BIOS and power throttle.
-
That may be the case but it it may also draw down on the battery charge rather than throttle. I’ve already seen loss of battery charge when overclocking for long periods. Not massive amounts but still there.
I might reach out to svet to see if he can compare both bios -
-
I'm sure - fans only, any overclocking, but temperatures are less with turbo on. I as gaming NFS, Starcraft, Witcher, GTA on very max without using turbo and everything was OKpiteris2 likes this.

Hmm my temps are creeping up a bit now with an ambient temp of 25c. CPU can reach 91c in BFV. The thing is, there is an 8c core temp differential between the coldest and hottest core. I wonder if I can solve it with a repaste, but opening this thing is more daunting than 90% of all other laptops out there including the complicated Alienwares in my opinion.
They also seem to use thermal paste on VRM's components, but based on photos it seems to be a thick blue paste. No clue what it is. -
Have you tries a laptop cooler?Seems to help a bit.
It’s easier tan repasting. -
It already lives on one. Decided to order a Blade 15 as well to compare. Let's see which I will keep.
-
Exactly all it does. There isn’t any reason to use it unless you use an external 4K display and try to play one of the few games that have raytracing with max settings. There isn’t a game out there that will stress the built in display.
It’s a lot quieter just leaving turbo off and letting the fan do its thing.piteris2 and Brightwood like this. -

I just got my Triton 500 with a RTX2060. I noticed that the CPU fan has a high pitched sound in addition to the other noise. This is loud enough to be annoying. Does anyone else have it as well?

Not my laptop.
The fans only get annoyingly loud when I use max fans. -
Thank you for the feedback. I returned my machine already. Probably a faulty fan.

I've been eyeing the Triton 500 waiting for the intel 9th gen refresh. It looks like they updated the Triton 500 in Malaysia to have it but no where else. Anyone have any ideas on how long acer usually takes to update?
-
Hard to say, Intel has trouble producing enough chips so it is very hard to determine who will have the updates ready first. I rather would use this moment to get a good deal on an 8th gen unit though.

hey guys, is there any reliable info on how the battery will last on that device ? with maybe a undervolt and only integrated graphics when on battery ? im used to 5-6 sometimes even 7 hours webcoding and browsing and youtube on my blade 15 ( wich will go back to amazon )
-
Bit similar battery life on my unit before I sent it back and went to the Blade,
-
similar to what ? blade or the 2 hours that all the reviews talk about
?
-
People fail to read in the reviews that the 2 hours is with Gsync enabled, its longer with Gsync disabled and on par with the MSI GS65.The 2060 version doesnt have Gsync at all, so in that case you cannot switch between Optimus and Gsync on the internal display.
-
Nope, but the refresh is not that big a deal unless you want or need the latest and greatest but from my experience with the Triton the i7 8750H is more than enough for everything you throw at it.piteris2 likes this.

If you guys are looking for a review that it actually informative then this is for you. The inverted motherboard still makes me sad. And they ship this laptop with a 180w power brick. But, you can get it at a steal on Newegg today if that kind of thing doesn't bother you.

well .. i ended up returning the triton 500 .. had a issue that seems to be fairly common according to the german amazon reviews .. my device turned itself off without message or bluescreen or logs , during gaming .. cpu temps was max 77 and gpu was around 69 .. happend multiple times with newest bios and up to date windows -.- ... yesterday it also happend during normal work ( intellij and programming for university ) idk what the actual proplem is but according to a similar problem on the helios 500 it seems to be the chipset that overheats ( on the helios its caused by external devices being addressed at once, like a mouse while transfering files etc .. ) has anyone here ever had that issue ? i also had some keys with uneven coloring on the leds .. spacebar had 3 leds that barely lit enough to be visible when looking underneath the key .. and lower row some had a greenish tint..

from 5 reviews on amazon ( i know pretty low ) 3 of them had black screen and shut down issue during gaming .. , anyways i bought another one, i saw that the store now has the 2060 i7 9750 in stock for the same price, so i bought that one and hope that its flaweless this time ( although i dont mind some backlight bleed as it can be fixed on the triton by slightly moving the display since it is so thing

in the reviews the devices where 2080 models and 2060 , so it didnt seem to be just one of them, mine was a 2060 model

Can I put a SATA SSD in one of the M.2 slots?
-
Mine had the screen turning off during gaming. When it first happened it would not come back on even when forced switch off holding power button. When it finally came back on it had reset the bios. Had the problem a few more time over a period of about a month. Since updating to bios 1.06 I have not had the problem.
-
Mine has the rtx2080 card by the way
-
how the 2080 ? is it really that bad compared to a non maxq 2070 ? ive heard people report that in the triton the 2080 gets sometimes outperformed by a laptop non maxq 2070 lol
-
Performance is fantastic on even the most demanding games. I got a score of 8000 plus on timespy.piteris2 likes this.

Hello evrerybody,
i have triton 500 rtx 2060 without g-sync.
Now i reflash modded bios and can disable internal grapics from intel, but can't enable g-sync.
Have you any idea? -
A Gsync certificate needs to be installed into the screen "bios". So no you cant just flash it.
-
Ok HyperX Impact 2666Mhz CL15 RAM doesn't work on this
-
Work fine!

Looks like 2x8GB kit. When I installed the 2x16GB kit, it refused to boot even after 10 tries
-
Hi can anyone confirm whether the 2060 model has Optimus or not? Either whether they have the Predator Sense option or if it's possible to switch in Bios?
-
The 2060 only has optimus, no gsync switching. BUt you can use a gsync external monitor if needed. But without an external monitor you have Optimus only.

Hello guys,
I'm interested in if the computer is silent in normal work.
I'll play it once a week with my son, in the rest of time I'll use it for office work and internet surfing.
it is very important for me to be quiet, best without any noise (like my Mac).
I was wondering between TRITON 500 and RAZER Blade, the money are not so important, but I read very bad comments about RAZER in Amazon. What is your expirience with the Triton 500 and the noise in normal use. -
Both are silent in normal productivity use. I use the RB15 2019 now, owned the Triton 500 for 3 weeks of use prior. But i didnt like the cooling performance under load with the triton 500.Stan_1 likes this.

thank you rinneh, you helped me a lot!!!
For me is extremely importmant to work on Word or Outlook without disturbing noise.
Which one of them you will recommend ? You are in the unique situation to have both.
The noise under load is not important for me, just handling, battery and silence in normal work. -
Battery are similar. If you want the most battery life on battery, select 60hz for the screen instead of 144hz. WIth careful tweaking I can get up to 7 hours on the blade and triton. But average is 5.
Getting a good RB15 unit is harder, the third one that I received was good without backlight bleed and other issues. But the cooling itself is better, the Triton had uneven cooling, some cores where 8degrees hotters than the others, this indicates that the heatsink isnt flat and will degrade thermal paste in those gaps. The Razer had the cores only 2degrees apart. Also maintenance of the Razer Blade is easier because it has a normal motherboard orientation..
In general both are good but I decided for the blade because of the reasons mentioned.Stan_1 likes this. -
ahn you, I will order the RB 15. I hope the new charge with i7-9750 is better regarding the screen problem.
