If you'll look back a number of pages, I already did this.
    I can't 100% confirm I have the 940 chipset but I think I do.
    Model 3680-2574 manufactured in 2006

    T2250 Core Duo: No worky
    T1350 Core Solo: Worky

Benefits: extra hour of battery life, extra 1MB L2 cache, quicker response, cooler running with speedstep

Now all I need as a 7200 RPM HD.

its enough to drive you mad

Yes Hoggie your discover of the meaning of the label on the ram slot was a real columbus egg :)

Vistar, you should open the bigger cover under the laptop (then one where you find the slots of ram) and check the sticker marked in orange in this photo:

we have spotted a worrying trend with acer mobo's the spec seems to change with the mobo's but the model number of the laptops could be the same. its taken some hard research to find and spot all the changes.
in some cases it could have the same model number but the date of manufacture also plays a part in what chipset the unit contains.

99% sure but until you open the unit and take a look who knows.
but will take a look for you :D

Well, i never wrote to be sure that a MBAZL0600x board has the i940. According to what claims Acerparts and i reported here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3109541&postcount=373

the MBA ZL 06001 has the i943.

Ah, i see now what happened, you saw the message where Wac quoted my post before i corrected it. Sorry :)

@n4r4k i think it has i943. Mine is MBAZL06003 and a T5200 works perfectly in it.
According to Acerparts, the boards with i940 have code MBTEB0600x

    @Letmealone
Thanks for convincing me but finally I just successfully dissemble my laptop.
I did it bcoz I want to make sure the chipset I have.

After I took out the fan&cooler, I begin to observe the chipset.
The chipset is covered by the black plastic film.
I pull off the plastic film carefully, and I found nothing on the chipset's surface.
I MEAN THERE IS NOTHING WRITTEN THERE/ NO INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHIPSET!!!

There should be something there right? How come there is no text at all??
I guess the only way to proof is by changing the processor into T5200/T5300 and find out whether it works or not.

    Any comment on this??
The reason why I did this is because I live in Indonesia, so if I buy the wrong processor, it would be difficult for me to sell it again.
Not the same case with you guys, where Ebay is there..
So I must be extra careful :D

Maybe the safest choice will be T1350?
    Comment please.....

    My ACER ASPIRE NUMBER:
    ASPIRE 3683NWXCi
    P/N: LX.AZK0C.005
    MODEL NO: ZR1
    SN : LXAZK0C0057070E8C32505

    Any idea krazyphire?
BTW on the sticker located on palm rest (on the right side of touch pad) is written:

    Aspire 3683NWXCi
    Intel Celeron M430
    14.1 WXGA crystalbrite LCD
    MObile Intel 940GML Express Chipset

    What do you think?
I guess I'm the only one from Asia, having unique Aspire Number than any of guys here...

Yeah the 3683 isn't a model that I've heard of...Hmmm. If it had a higher part number I was thinking it would have at least a i943, but I could be very wrong. Lets get someone who has a 940GML confirmed to give us their mobo code on the ram slot. :)

Hoggie, you're a hero for figuring it out. I took apart my 3680-2682 again, and was finally able to confirm that my MBAZL06003 is a 943GML. I had to wipe off a layer of grease and shine a flashlight on it to read the low contrast markings (it's dark grey on black!).

Thanks for selling me your 1.833GHz T5600. My 3680-2682 powered up with no problems, and booted up the first time! Apparently my MB also supports 667MHz FSB. PC Wizard seems to confim it.

Peak CPU temps are about the same as with the T5300, even though the T5600 die is much larger than the T5300. In fact, the T5600 die is about twice the size of the Celeron M 440!

My Vista CPU performance index score stayed at 4.8 (same as with the T5300), but the Graphics score jumped from 2.3 to 3.0, and the RAM score nudged up from 4.4 to 4.5.

Overall performance seems a little snappier, but not nearly as big a difference as going from the Celeron M to the T5300.

Glad someone could benifit from my mistake (buying socket M processors for my socket P laptops). I thought your setup supported the 667FSB, glad to be correct for a change.

I'm waiting for a T5450 socket P to arrive any day now. Maybe this time i can have the same good luck WAC has had. I did get my Bluetooth Dongle installed internally using a cheap 4 port hub i took out of it's case, so now my laptop has bluetooth. :D

Congrats on your bump in preformance WAC.

Thank WAC, for inspiring me. Last time I did not observe the die.
Yes it's written on the die I943gml :D

    Thanks krazyphire & Letmealone

So it's confirmed once again that Mobo with code :
MBA ZL 06001 and MBA ZL 06003 have i943 GML !!

So guys..what processor should I upgrade to?
From this forum I found out that the options for I943GML are:
    1. T5200
    2. T5300
    3. T5600
    4. T2050
    5. T2080

Anyone know any seller in Ebay who are willing to ship to my Country, Indonesia??
Or Anyone here wants to sell/ help me..please let me know.

The success of wac, making work a @667 T5600 processor on the i943, opens new perspectives in updating the 3680, and also gives a little to think about. Officially, Intel claims that this chipset is for supporting Celeron M processors @533: http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/943gml/index.htm but for sure many laptops were directly sold with this chipset and low end dual core cpus running @533 fsb, mostly Pentium Dual Core. Now it is confirmed that it can also run @667, so that i cant now see a real difference from the i945. So what we can think about this ? My hypothesis is that i943 are second choice i945, not certified to run @667 but most do. A bit as second choice processors built to work at 2 Ghz and conservatively sold as 1.8 Ghz because not certified to be 100% stable at the original frequency... but most of them still working without problems if unlocked and "overclocked" @ 2.0 Ghz. So, making run a i943 @667 could be a bit as overclocking it. It could be interesting now seeing if wac was lucky or if all the i943 can go at that frequency. At n4r4k, who wants to be 100% sure of the success of his upgrade, i still suggest the T5300 as best choice. Obviously this is just my opinion, i would be glad to hear other points of view.

I feel very fortunate that the T5600 worked on the 943GML.

I downloaded the datasheet for the 945/943/940GML chip, and the only concrete statement I got from the document was that the 943GML is limited to 533 MHz (533 MHz PC2-4200 or 667 MHz PC2-5300 are allowed, but both run at 533 since PC2-5300 can run at either speed) for SDRAM only (pages 28, 109 & 164).

As for the FSB, page 27 says the 945GMS supports 533 and 667 FSB. Page 28 says the 940GML only supports 533 FSB, but the section for the 943GML doesn't say anything about the FSB. It's not clear if the 943GML should have the same FSB restriction, but if so, that would normally be explicitly called out in such a datasheet like it did for the 940GML. Also read the subsections for processor support - the 940GML is explicitly restricted to Celeron M only, while the 945GMS supports Core 2 Duo, Core Duo, Core Solo, and Celeron M. No mention of processor support for 943GML, but since we know that C2Ds work...

I agree that the 943s are very likely 2nd choice 945s, where they use the same die but fuse out certain gates to disable features for the lower grade part. It's possible that they didn't fuse out the 667 FSB ID, or it was never meant to be disabled, or they simply forgot to do it in the production test program. To add weight (or confusion) to this, PC-Wizard reports that my SDRAM is 533 MHz, even though I have 667 MHz PC2-5300 modules installed. This would imply that 667 SDRAM speed has been disabled with the appropriate ID(s) fused.

The Celeron in your system is a low power Yonah Core CPU. The T5500 is a Merom Core CPU, has a higher FSB (667), and a higher power output. The 940GML can't handle those specs.

For anyone curious about undervolting their new Core 2 CPU I supplied some pics of my RM utility settings with idle temps. Using this program: http://cpu.rightmark.org/download/rmclock_235_bin.exe your computer should run a lot cooler and increase battery life by at least 15 minutes. :)

    [IMG] <--temps/CPU clock 800Mhz

nope... i have a 5315 and bought a T5300 before i understood that there are basically 2 different 479 pin mobile sockets... the T5300 is a socket M processor while the Arcadia MB in the Aspire 5315 is a Socket P based MB.

the following CPUs should fit the MB and work fine,
T5250, T5450, T7100, T7300... i have a T5450 in the mail now, and as soon as it arrives i'll post results and a few pics in the following threads:

hope it helps,, i wish i had asked the same questions before i bought 3 cpus,
