    Google Translate

I am definately getting a 7750m at only 25w tdp. My current laptop 23w gpu has 120 gflops. This will have 589 which is nearly 5x more at 25w.

Laut AMD wird der Chip z.B. bei extremen Lasten von Furmark oder OCCT SC8 untertaktet und bei Spielen wie Lost Planet, Crysis oder Resident Evil übertaktet um den TDP ideal auszuschöpfen.

According to AMD, the Wimbledon will underclock at Furmark or OCCT SC8 but in Games like Lost Planet, Crysis or Resident Evil Wimbledon will overclock to use full potential of TDP.

EDIT: The P5816 was paired with a 2600k. The GPU itself made a score of 5447 -> In 3DMark 11: P22787 in Vantage and GPU score was 21995. So with a better GPU (3x20QM) there will be a better GPU Score.

Edit2: When it will dynamically overclock until 100W (sounds like Nvidias Boost Tech) then it's maybe worth to undervolt a bit. But at the moment we have no idea of the mechanism.
And i forgot the card provides Powertune aswell if dell implement it.

I want to be able to overvolt this beast card, that would be so cool. However the vbios may be locked out, like the desktop 7000 series :/

Mine is arriving tomorrow but I'm out all day damn :(

    Hello to you,

    Here, I have a M17x R3 with a 6970m and I like to replaced by the 7970m.

    Or can we get it?

Should it be better to buy it from Alienware?

    Thank you + +

    just a technical correction on my post in page 41 regarding heaven benchmark test;

i ran the bench after resuming from sleep state so drivers are finicky and it lowers gpu usage on the cards a bit, re-ran it after reboot for proper bench to again match slick's settings.

still on your quest to prove 6990's xfire are faster...lol

They ARE faster. They are suppose to be faster. The specs on paper suggest that. but because the minimum fps are similar (my unigine 1080p had a min of 31fps and you're showing 30.5fps), the experience between running a single 7970m and xfire 6990m in game should be very similar.

Just heard that there will be a turbo mode in the 7970m's that will overclock the card until it hits 100w (similar to intel turbo boost 2.0). I can't wait for official working drivers! So far all my results have been hacked together with no support

Check the latest drivers on benchmark3d - they have hacked 7000 HD support, 7970M included.

Also to the dude with the crossfire, your cards are overclocked, just wait till we add 150Mhz to the 7970M stock core clock :p

graz, get ready for a sleepness night. When it gets installed, you ain't sleeping today. I'm working on my 7970m install guide as we speak

GEO, i've installed and using these drivers. THey work, but there is no 7970m turbo boost support, and iGPU has been shut off

That's up to you lol...you want the fastest card available on the planet? The going rate seems to be between $450-500

This may sound very noobish, but can you disable the 7970m in device manager to use on board graphics and save battery, then re enable for gaming until its officially supported?

Because installation is akin to slapping together a balony sandwich currently, i wouldn't do that right now, because the driver support = NIL

i have my igpu disabled in the bios because integrated support isn't there yet with the drivers i'm using.

Graz, what bios do you have installed in your laptop? You will need to disable the iGPU in the bios so make sure you have the A08 unlocked bios installed before you start installation

If I order do I need the heat sink or do clevos come with it ? also do I need the extra x bracket and thermal pads ? I'm saying is 5 hundred more than resellers of the cards are charging ? Seems like that's about what they charge I guess since gtx 670 is about 300 bucks and this is a 200 upgrade.

No clue what the clevo's need if you want to upgrade as I haven't even seen the guts of one. You might try asking in the clevo forum and they can give you a better answer. :)

currently you can buy one 7970m with an Alienware :)
I am pestering some German Clevo (mysn, deviltech) resellers for info regarding availability and prices. They deliver to UK - no problem :)

Aw thanks MH, appreciate your help.

I contacted both Eurocom and Upgradeyourlaptop - both told me they can deliver to the UK via UPS and will be able to do so by May 4th. Ofc, coming from across the pond as they are, the delivery price is significant enough to dwell on :( which is why I was hoping to find someone closer to home.

A little aside - both Eurocom and UYL asked me if I needed extra X-brackets, heatsinks and screws, which they could also sell me. If I'm upgrading to the 7970m from 2 5870ms, will I need these?

I'm glad I can get hold of a 920XM at least from not too far away!

just got some update form mySN - german Clevo reseller regarding the AMD 7970m:

" I’m sorry but we can’t give you a final price point yet, but the card should be available in the next couple of weeks. We are expecting our first sample the next few days and are eager to get some real benchmark results. Stay tuned!"

need to wait a bit longer...

wonderpookie, delivering a Clevo to UK was 35 EU so I cannot imagine delivering a card to cost more :) I will keep on asking them. Once I got some prices I will post it here. Hopefully the rest of the guys wont mind :D

Hey Wonderpookie...If they are like the 6970's then yes you'd need new x-brackets...as the 5870 x-brackets do not fit on the 6970's...so I imagine they also won't fit on the 7970's...granted this is speculation since I haven't actually seen one.

Upgradeyourlaptop(Eurocom) should be able to tell you if the x-bracket for the 7970 is the same as it is for the 6970...if so then you'll definitely want them to include them (I believe they are a bit expensive so might be worth shopping around on e-bay to see if anyone sells them and if so how much).

Also if you do get the x-bracket from them, make sure they include the screws as well, as they are different size from the 5870s.

As far as the heatsinks go, you'll use the same ones for the 5870's...don't need anything additional there.

Very interested in the price and what they say, I bought my 6970's from them and they've been rock solid for about 6 months now.

You don't need a X-bracket if you go from 6990M.

    PS have you preordered it?

Sorry I should clarify..for folks with an R2 running either 4870 or 5870's you will need the x-bracket (25 is better then the 40 they used to charge). And that is a really good price, considering I believe I paid $370 per card for my 6970's
