My guess is it just downclocks, and this is nothing new. Just uses a lower clock, like the differant states of the 6900 series GPUs.

HA !! have fun with the install. Take your time. Lets see some monster numbers :D

The enduro is just like optimus. Doesn't matter for now because you have to kill iGPU with a 7970m until drivers come

Dang, Slick if you were closer I would bribe you to let me borrow it(7970) to see if it presented fan issues in the R2.

on the R2, the temp/fan sensor is on the motherboard. In the R3, the temp/fan sensor is on the Vid card. Its much easier to have working fans on the R3 than on the R2. Someone with an R2 will just have to be brave and just try it...ahem, cough, DAN...ahem, cough

It's strange, the R2 like Clevo cards with proper fan control etc and don't play well with Dell cards. In the M15x it is the opposite as Dell cards are fully compatible and Clevo cards cause fan issues. They are the same generation and one would think that the mobos would be similar

    Hi,

I'm about to buy one for my m17x with an old 6870m, do you know if the 6870m's heatsink is compatible with the 7970m ? I know the bracket isn't but dell is offering me one for 0.70€ ...

    I haven't preordered
Upgradeyourlaptop said if 10 cards preordered we could get a 3 month warranty instead of only 1. 450$ a card

Don't know if that is worth it to anyone but I might be preordering there, table21 said on the marketplace that he had afew ES 7970.for sale but never replied.

    Hmmmmmmm.....................

To strike or not too strike yet?

    Dear Chief,

Cards are CF ready. Would you need also CF cable and X-bracket with matching screws?
Price is $450 per cards; $25 for CF cable; $25 for X-bracket with screws

    - upgradeyourlaptop

I'm thinking I might get the Clevo version and then I can try it out in the M17x R2 for you guys and if that doesn't play well with the "Fans" hopefully it will be fine in the M18x.

I'm just waiting back to hear from them about shipping costs. To see if it will be worth it or not.

    Cheers. :)

So this video card is officially out today.

I just ordered my laptop from XoticPC with one of these and it still says "Late May" next to it, will this possibly change to at least "early may" since the video card is now out?

Where can I get the x-bracket with screws for the upgrade? I currently have a 580m in my r3. I'm also wondering about screen capability considering I have the 120hz 3D. I'm assuming it will just run at 60 hz.

no bro, you can't run AMD with a 120 hz. You'll have to wait for the 680m. The 7970m won't even install on your computer...you won't be able to boot even

In a M15x, are there any other X-Plates that will fit without modification?

I know the 6990M/6970M is the same, but those were standard. What about the 5830?

No. All AMD cards prior to the 6900m series have different x-plates, similar to the ones nvidia have always used. If you can snag a 6900m series backplate from anywhere, your set :)

Ah ha. Part YHP1P, just ordered from Dell Spare parts. $33.99 w/ free shipping, turned out to be the same as upgradeyourlaptop, except that they're including the screws and thermal pads, so a tad cheaper I guess.

Edit, and that's for the entire 6990M Heatsink Assembly w/ the "support plate"
