I believe the 2D clocks are 300/150, then it is 450/1200 and 850/1200... D:
No idea what about the voltage.
Do you think this card can be overvolted in the near future or is it already at its highest voltage?
-
Ok, thanks.
It has several clock entries:
850/1200
500/800
300/150
450/1200
450/300
The additional entries are probably for battery or when a second display is connected, I dunno.
What does GPU-Z report for the voltage?
The voltage table itself looks quite crazy, it goes from 0.750V up to 1.225V...
No idea whether are values are actually valid, but it almost seems so. -
Crazy stuff. Forgot to say I am on an external display via VGA... I am really scared of flashing the vbios at this stage. I probably won't... We barely know anything about the card.
It's also possible that GPU-Z/Trixx do not understand the card because we are using modded drivers, not official ones. -

thnx svl7!
If we did the flash and it didn't work, can't we just reflash with the original? I read your article at techinferno (re: 6970 back from dead) and there's no way i would be able to put a new chip on the pcb. I lack both the equipment and expertise -
As far as I know current version of GPU-Z supports only 7670M at the moment.

here is a summmary of what i've already tried:
I tried to get OVERDRIVE to appear in CCC...no luck
After cats 12.2, ati removed 2 dll's that third party OC programs need...SO, i added it back and modded the inf. Reinstalled the drivers...no luck
Tried to manually increase MSI AFTERBURNER overclock limits via registry mod. This worked before...but with the 7970m...no luck. Currently Afterburner's max limit is the stock 850/1200 speed of the 7970m. Hence no OC'ing possible yet
tried ATI Tray Tools after adding back the dll's in the driver. It installed, but on the OC menus, the limits are too low and registry mod isn't working (when it did for previous versions of cards)
The new Sapphire Trixx released yesterday doesn't support the 7970m yet
GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
-
Flashing shouldn't be an issue at all, ATIflash was able to correctly read out the whole VBIOS (I checked it) and therefore it shouldn't have any issue with flashing. -

It's your turn now Slick... I dumped it, you gotta flash! I am 99% sure it will go perfectly.
-
Haha... 99% sure
You have to feel pretty good about those odds don't you Slick? -
Slick, I booted the lappy once with the card, it may not be dead, but it didn't show in the device manager, I think it has electrical issues or maybe some connection problem on the MXM connection to mobo, because it randomly boots, sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't... also I won't try to mount it with 580 heatsink anymore, so I will just send it back, if it is alive, I will order the new heatsink and join the party
damn it, I missed my perma smile

read last post!! -
upgradeyourlaptop does NOT sell Dell versions. They will sell Clevo 7970Ms (Clevo vbios) with Samsung memory. They will work perfectly with R3s and R2s, and obv perfect with Clevos. Not sure about M15x.
You can only get Dell versions from forum members, unlikely getting them from Dell just yet.
If people are unsure, just link them back to this post, because I am sure. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Edit: Geo beat me to it -
The only cards members have are Dell cards right now, as that is what Table21 receives. Eurocom sells Clevo laptops, and thats what they order from their distributor.
-
thanks for soothing my mind guys
the party is still ON then!
-
why prema says that??
I just saw that Clevo folks are ordering the DELL 7970M for their HM P-series boards.
It works for a short while but reports the temps to the EC in a way it doesn't like, which results in automatic shutdown. So you will have to wait for a Clevo 7970M bios or even card.
So as of now don't waste your money on the dell cards. -

-
@johnny
They can't have been ordering Dell cards, because only a select few knew about Table21. A very select few (5 max, hence all cards were sold out like instantly)
Also you do realise you're posting 'don't waste your money on the dell cards' on an alienware forum? XD -

I believe the question was answered here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/658084-amd-7970m-available-buy-83.html#post8475618

I just ordered one and this what they had to say about compatibility,
Hi Nayil
We don’t accept returns on VGA cards, due to the number of users we’ve had damage the cards through improper installation, lack of ESD precautions and in some cases, not even using thermal paste. Please ensure you take all precautions prior to installation.
The cards will be tested prior to shipping out. At this point we do not foresee compatibility issues with Alienware systems. We will be having this confirmed prior to shipping out pre-orders, if the cards are not compatible for some reason then we will provide our customers with the opportunity to cancel their order.
I hope this answers your question.
Best Regards -
-
1080p ^ Always.
Also nayilalien, don't forget you have PayPal protection, and they side with the buyer 99% of the time. But returns.. yeah... just make sure you want this card 101%. No second thoughts. -

I heard from someone that Nvidia is better bc it has CUDA cores and that works very well when rendering videos in Sony Vegas Pro/Adobe Premiere Pro and AMD's 7970M will render much slower.
I am wondering will GTX680M be much more expensive than 7970M and will it be able to out perform 7970m?
Oh and it would great if someone knew when GTX680M will be out so I can decide whether to go with AMD or Nvidia.
Finally how I make NBR send me an email when someone has replied me?
Thx in advance. -
It decreases render times in certain codecs, e.g. H264. I use WMV mostly, and CUDA is useless lol, so the CPU is left with all the work. AMD has GPU accelerated rendering too which works in the same way. However it hasn't really worked for me as well as Nvidia has with CUDA.
Some GTX 680M specs and benchmarks leaked a while ago: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M - Notebookcheck.net Tech but the 7970M slaughtered them, so Nvidia delayed it (it's gonna be a long wait don't you worry) and went back to the drawing board to crank up the clocks. As always with top of the range Nvidia GPUs it will cost a fortune, for something that I predict will be inferior to the 7970M. -
I think 680m will be on par with 7970m, but it certainly won't worth the crazy price, it will certainly be twice the price of 7970m (as the same guy who leaked that bench also said that 7970m will score from 4500 to 4700, which we saw scores 5.6k
-
Yeah, but we actually saw screenshots for the GTX 680M benchmark. I guess the guy based his 7970M estimation on that and clearly underestimated the 7970M, as I did.

As of right now, the 7970m smokes a 680m. I can tell you this because of insider info that I received. The source is 100% reliable...and has never let me down (no fudzilla BS). The 680m is delayed while they rework the ram and core clocks. When it will be available is anyone's best guess.
-
) yeah currently 7970m is like heaven come true, seriously 500 bucks for 580m SLI performance, ridiculous (I so wish to join back to the party
)
@Slick, seriously???? wow they were also testing 680m?? -
