I dont know but i am one of few R2 owners together with DR's R2 we will be having 7970m IN the FIRST, if i am not mistaken :)

But i assume other leading NBR R2 users will go for it quickly as well....

yeah, but I am still wondering if it will be possible to run crossfire in the R2 just like with the 6970/6990 without doing anything to the 240 watt power supply and without overheating, fan or power issues.

But we will just have to wait and see if someone is brave enough to try the upgrade. I'm holding back on preordering from upgrademylaptop, since i would rather want a dell 7970m than a clevo, but at this point we still don't know if the 100% fan problem is present with the cards or witch one.

7970m consumes 100w on its own, so there will be same issues like with 6990m's ic x-fire.

And, we PREY, there is no issues with fans, as many of us would HATE it :p

yeah, controlling the fans manuallly would be a deal breaker for me even though 7970m Xfire roughly would be at 680/590/6990 performance.

Aww.. Still remember the days when 5870m Xfire was the king along with the 920/940xm in the R2. Good times :)

Same reason I've held off on getting my order in, even forgetting the fact the price to have it shipped across the pond is dear enough with the pre-order discount from upgradeyourlaptop :(

Still, I look forward to an R2 user getting it whacked into their system with glee! Would love to see an xfire setup!

    >>> is it really that difficult to fiddle with the PSU?

I don't have a lot of experience with the PSU so I'm the wrong guy. But I've seen some people in the thread about installing 6970/6990m's that somehow succesfully have managed to make a 480 watt PSU work with the R2.

But I'm not really sure I would like to that kind of experimentation with the PSU, because it would most likely affect the portability of the system.

Thank you SlickDude80, GeoCake & others for your very fast reply.

I also heard from the guy whom recommended Nvidia to me that Nvidia is more reliable thus less likely to cause problems in the future and has PhysX (What is that and is that important?). Whereas AMD has disadvantages in reliability & drivers. Please readers express your knowledge in this area if it is true.

@ GeoCake: I render my vids to H.264 alot So how much slower will 7970M be compared to 675m or 680m?

Finally if I wait till 7990m comes out how much more performance can I gain? And when is it likely to come out?

    Thank you all in advance.

As long as I can still use HWiNFO to control the fans, that would be fine by me. I use a custom profile with HWiNFO 24/7 now anyway.

There aren't any overclocked scores yet. No one has yet figured out how to o/c the 7970M because the normal o/c utilities for AMD cards have not yet been updated to work with the card. Work in progress.

Believe me, we want to overclock this card so much D=

But as others have stated, there's some waiting to do for any kind of support. Next version of GPU-Z should support the card, hopefully better drivers, etc

right, um....on what info is this all based on, if i may ask? so far the only real statement weve got is that the cards offered by eurocom are actual mass production units, not ES or Dell cards. sources please?

again, dont mix up the Dell ES cards that have been benched here already with the cards that eurocom offers via their ebay shop, theyve got NOTHING to do with each other! the Dell ES samples whose benches weve already seen here were offered by a forum member and NOT by eurocom! :) there arent any Clevo samples out and available yet, thus we know nothing about their benchmark results. just to clear things up here...

    cheers

^ Agree.. we don't need another person spreading rumours.

AMD's official benchmarks are real numbers, and me and Slick's numbers were very comparable to the 3DMark11 benchmark within the last 2 digits. The Vantage benchmark score is much higher because of AMD using PCI-E 3.0, whereas our R3s are limited to 2.1, and we all know how Vantage scores are easily affected by a higher bandwidth. Not even mentioning 0 driver support.

Better numbers for 3DMark11 comes with Tessellation off, aka cheating. We already have real numbers - myself and SlickDude are using QS cards, they are 101% identical to OEM cards. Plus we know that ES, QS, and OEM perform the same, since half of this forum used one or the other. Example: BigTony using an ES card, benchmark results = identical to OEM.

I know all that guys, but how can he state that then ? I mean he didn't make it up and I know Eurocon only supply Clevo so I'm not saying anything wrong about Slickdude or Table21 (that I've been dealing with in the past and now, he only got Dell GPUs) - I know they are reliable.

What I'm saying is that his story is alike to what happened in the Alienware section (2 guys got ES 7970M etc.) and I can't get why he would make that up - and look because of that, Eurocom got a huge amount of pre-orders we can't deny it...so his statement makes sense all the same...

    Your thoughts ?

I think he is talking complete poop. Table21 sent the DELL cards to us, and he is VERY reputable and reliable - nothing to do with Eurocom corp. It wasn't 2 peeps either, it was more. :)

Our beast bechmarks have shown others the light, hence folks pre-ordering from Eurocom (upgradeyourlaptop), since it is the only source atm.

    Pretty much what jaybee said.

    Dear johnnyman27,

cards are MP version - MASS PRODUCTION final version of HD7970M silicon - we are not shipping any ES (Engineering samples) or QS (Qualification Samples) - so they don't need to worry - they can check with us

And Slick, no doubt about it. As long as they're reliable, then it's not a big deal, but any time accusations are made, etc, it leaves a sour taste in people's mouths.
