    Which 2 pads?

    The VRAM pad is 1mm placed on both sides, I highlighted it with a green box. :p

    Yupp Geo, I think padding the red area on the right of your picture is what killed my 7970m, I think it causes the card to bend a little, which is dangerous.. I realized it after the card died, and tried the same thing, remove the pad there but didn't work anymore :)

    Also Geo, please for the love of God, don't screw heatsink too much, seriously that transistor causes a bend on the card, and when you inspect it, it is kinda serious..

    Sorry for the late response, just finished dinner. So yeah looking at the heatsink picture, down below the horizontal VRAM space. There are 3 pieces of thermal pads there, the middle one raised up. I meant the others 2 next to it.

    Hmm, need to correct a bit. The middle bit is 1.5mm, and the ones to the left/right of it are 1mm.

    So basically the 5 gray conductors/transistors are left unpadded right? (I know, please bear with me :p)! And the rest just pad them up to reach the same heights and/or touch the heatsink.

    Correct. The 4 that are parallel to each other are covered by the 1mm pad you put on the heatsink. The 5th one you do not cover.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/658084-amd-7970m-available-buy-95.html#post8478747

    Updated with the pad you put in the middle of the GPU, purple means 1.5mm of pad.

    Gosh, that looks like an awful lot of pad work. How long did it take you to figure and fiddle all that out? :confused:

    Surely it would've been easier to just get the 7970 heatsink? :D

    >>> or is that just being lazy? :p

    Ebay seller ''upgradeyourlaptop'' will test 7970m next week, on m15, both m17x's and m18x.
    I will post update when they respond.

    Most people I believe are in the process of pre-ordering Clevo 7970Ms through Eurocom's ebay store "upgradeyourlaptop".

    The 7970Ms aren't listed, so send upgradeyourlaptop a message and enquire through there.

    Not necessarily. This community thus far are all using Dell cards, instead of the Clevo that upgradeyourlaptop is selling. However, they told me in an email a week ago that they'd already tested them with Alienware systems, and they were working. Not sure why they're now saying that they're testing them this week?

    All of the cards we've seen tested so far are Dell QS versions of the 7970M. No one here has a Eurocom/Clevo 7970M yet, and no test results for that card have been reported. They should be more or less similar, but differences exist and we need actual results before drawing any conclusions.

    Edit: Obviously way late to this issue. :eek:

    Sorry guys, maybe a little bit out of topic, but I want to know is there any possibility to get a notebook with AMD mobile card (as example 7970m) and screen with 120Hz refresh rate support? As I know Alienware and Clevo will mount 120Hz panel only if you go with NVIDIA card because of 3D Vision. But I really don't care about 3D stuff, all I want is 120Hz screen working with AMD card. If it's possible I would go with 7970m instead of waiting for 680m.

    The simple truth is no it is not possible. It goes like this:

    120Hz screen = iGPU off (must)
    iGPU =/= 120Hz screen (not compatible)
    AMD = iGPU (must)
    120Hz + nvidia = iGPU off

    Therefore:
    AMD =/= 120Hz screen.
