It just got released today but unsure about the 7970m. That laptop does look real cool though and the only one that, when out, will have a performance AMD card with a 120Hz 3D screen![]()

"On the other hand, AMD's latest Radeon HD 7970M, codenamed "Wimbeldon", is among the fastest graphics cards available at the moment, and it shows in the benchmarks. Both the 15.6" Racer 2.0 and the 17.3" Panther 4.0 can be equipped with the HD7970 and both excelled in benchmarks.
Powered by a Core i7-3820QM, 8GB of RAM and a 120GB Intel 520 SSD, the Racer 2.0 managed to total a score of P20753 in 3DMark Vantage. On the other hand, the Panther 4.0 was powered by an Intel Core i7 3960X Extreme Edition and dual HD 7970s in CrossFireX, but managed to score a P31127 in 3DMark Vantage."

Cool! I had no idea the 7970m was that fast
EDIT...sarcasm -
So dual 7970M with the best CPU get 31k, with OC maybe 40k? And Geo already achieved 25k with a single card
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
That would be monumental...40K from a laptop
The 7970m with a small OC gets 22-23k vantage in its sleep. I would love to see 40k in a crossfire system -
40k overall will be tricky to achieve because I've only seen laptops do 33k Vantage CPU and that was the M18x, so it will bring the overall score down for once... hah. Still, the GPU will score very high in Crossfire -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
i can't wait to see what 2 heavily overclocked 7970's will do. Someone will push the heck out of xfire 7970's. I bet 40k is achievable -
There is already a driver page for M17x R4 on Dell support but there's nothing in there yet.
-
Hey guys!
What is the fastest way to get this Radeon 7970M card when coming from Europe? and where should i get it?
I dont really care about pricingi just want it as fast as possible :b
I was looking at what price i had to pay if i used upgradeyourlaptop/Eurocom in Canada, and unfortunately my country Denmark will add +37% tax if i import it!
It would push the price up to 875 USD, which is bad oO!
Hope anyone here can help me -
-
You have to find a good seller that will label the package at like 30-50$.. otherwise customs will.. yeah, charge you a crap load. That's how I get my expensive stuff rather easily, but risky at the same time.
-
It's here! Finally! Surgery in process, pics to come soon!
-
Win! Hopefully you can compete with my benchmarks

yo guys. can anyone explain me why Alienware charges 150$ more for a single GTX675?
http://i47.tinypic.com/4h48jb.png
I know that they were pretty bad at pricing, but this... this gives a new definition to "rip off". -
great news Long! good luck with the surgery!! welcome to the brotherhood
@Erebus, they are ripping off the customer who knows nothing of hardware.. -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
-
and the worst thing is nvidia is still talking about the best mobile chip 675m everywhere in their shows...
please release 680m asap, this is getting seriously ridiculous.. -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Grazt, they have to say that lol...and that's why people have to educate themselves before putting down the $2k to buy a performance laptop. BUT if my mom was to buy a laptop, she might get the 675 thinking it was better
-
In my opinion what Alienware is doing is both disrespectful and unethical.
Maybe they intended to sell a DUAL 675m for 150 dolla extra? I doubt it though. -
on a separate topic, Slick, I must prevent myself from buying a crossfirex 7970m system and you guys are not doing me any favors! Why you are talking about 40k vantage?!!

Sorry for the bummer guys but as it turned out, I cannot put the card in place...yet.
There is no backplate/bracket included so as much as I want to try, I couldnt. I was tempted to force my GTX 580M bracket on it but I stopped. It wasnt worth it.
So I followed Revelator's advice and ordered a heatsink kit from dell, which according to them will arrive on or before May 7th. It's not too bad since I am waiting for new fujipoly pads anyway.
But thats not all! I also took some pictures, hope it help you guys! It also shows how much care the seller put into it.
Opened
Countless layers of wrapping
The card itself
Heatsinks side by side comparison, apparently aside from the added copper, the small square above the left VRAM column is raised up abit. The one on top is 6870M/460M/6970M/6990M heatsink.
GTX 580M vs RADEON 7970M...FIGHT!
P.S: thats the same heatsink Geo used to illustrate how to place pads correctly.
And in case anyone wonder, I get the heatsink assembly kit for $44.15 after shipping and tax. -

The 7970M is $654 dollars as of today (quote from upgradeyourlaptop) so in alienware:s eyes the 675M is worth $800? rofl
I think this must be the most expensive GPU gen to date! -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
well congratz on the card anyways!! Hopefully the kit comes within a few days. Normally it comes earlier than stated
-
-
Arma 2 will be a great game to test on this one and it has a built in Benchmark. I will be testing that game once my GPU arroives but if anyone else could test that, it would be great. Of course, many Desktops struggle with that one though.
-

They didn:t say and I haven:t asked. To be honest unless I can get the price down to $450 or under by way of trade then I shall be waiting. The asking price is pretty obscene. The card is amazing but the price prohibitive.
@laptopnut if you win the lottery you can stick 2 of these babies in crossfire and probably give even arma 2 a run for its money! -

Wow, just saw that $654 quote from upgradeyourlaptop. That's a LOT different than the $450 that they quoted me just a short week ago.
-
-
Man i should not have canceled my order
. Get it and then sell back =))))
-
Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal with that is, they told me it was going up to $520 on may 1, but even with retention bracket and screws, that's quite a bit more than $520.
-
from what other says the "EARLY BIRDS" catches the "CARDS"
-

Sounds like price gouging to me! The same card was $450 only a week or so ago. Then they raised it to $500 and now $654. Beware folks.
-
I was going to get mine from them with the extra bracket and pads which totaled to $520. Then I remember how their cards cannot OC on memory
-
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
It matters not there will be other suppliers within a month.
-
I think Eurocom just realized how fast these cards are...
-
i doubt the 654 $ price tag is for the card alone guys. sounds to me more like the whole kit including TIM and shipping. could you be more specific as to what exactly this refers to?@king of interns
i paid 629 btw, with heatsink, x bracket, TIM and shipping

1. Clevo 7970m OEM == 450$
2. set of thermal pads == 10$
3. x-bracket with screws == 25$
4. Ups express to KZ == 90$ -
So what exactly is going on with the heatsink? I haven't been reading much on this thread for the past couple of days. is the 6970m/6990m/7970m heatsink the same?
-
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
I have got word from laptopmonkey that they will also stock the Clevo 7970M in 1-2 months time. No info on price yet though.
Hopefully a few dell oem 7970M cards will start circulating soon. -

Seems I have to wait a little longer for benches.
