M17x R2 7970m Like a BOUSE !!! -
hahaha when you put up the tracking info all of the NBR R2 users will be tentatively waiting together!!!
Can't wait! and I am not even the one getting the delivery!!!!
-
Can't wait for the results
I emailed them yesterday and they told me if I placed the order yesterday it would ship on May 15th.
I placed my 5870's and 6990's along with other items for sale in the marketplace to raise funds for the 7970XF M17x R2
Hopefully it works out.
-
Their 7970m's is still on transit
-
How much how you selling your 5870's for? I might try for $200 in Oz
-
Right now for for $180/ea or both for $340. I'd love to get $200 for them as they are pretty much brand new. Had dell replace my cards. When I got the system back I made sure they worked, and then pulled them out and replaced them with the 6990's. So they have maybe 2-3 hours on them max.

"I hear they are delayed until early next week"
looks like the May 4th shipments will be bumped -
Mine aren't even close to new, but Australia is always slightly more expensive. When I sold my GTX 260m after about 5 months, I sold it for like $223. So I'd hope to get 300 to 400 for the two of my cards, then take it out of the 600 chunk I'd have to pay. BUT, I'd prefer to purchase the card first then install it, then sell the other two ones.
-
ah crap....
at least i got my pads today
i hear ya mate, thinking about hanging on to my 485M until the 30day warranty period runs out, just to be sure ^^ -

I shipped out my 6990M today. Looks like I'll be w/o a graphics card for a bit. -
in that case id advise u to handle ur new gpu veeeeery gently
-

No doubt. working in the electronics field has trained me well. I use wrist straps and ESD bags for everything! -
crap, we already have waited for almost a half-month
-
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
It hasn't been confirmed. If so, I'm sure they will officially announce it to the pre-order group. -
I've never used a wrist strap and I've disassembled my R2 who knows how many times, at least 50+ times. Plus my Inspiron 1720. Good thing I've never messed up
I need to get one.
Wish my 6990s would sell.

Its always been an easy decision for me. A 5 dollar wrist strap, or potentially thousands of volts across your CPU -
any news from upgradeyourlaptop?
-
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
Not yet. If I hear anything I'll post -
Could be like me fellas, and have the card... but no screws to install the heatsink to the retention bracket... Not sure which one is worse, having it and not being able to use it, or waiting for it to ship, lol
-
Im the other Way around, have the card and screws but not the bracket =)
-
Quite the epic fail @ both of you there...
Also, I find it funny how Sniper Elite v2 maxed runs at like 100+FPS most of the time, cracks me up. Good game btw -
Story of my life

What's going on with your card, bro? -

Hello NBR,
My name is Dan and I'm one of the sales reps at upgradeyourlaptop that has been handling the HD 7970M pre-orders. Some of you may have spoken with me directly via email when pre-ordering your 7970Ms.
As I'm sure you all remember (or can thread search), we were quoting a ship date of around May 4th for the initial pre-orders. Based on internal discussions, we’ve decided to take a bit more time to test the 7970M cards in multiple platforms, as the MP parts will differ from the ES ones we've been using in our testing a bit more than we previously thought. We will use all the resources within our powers to make sure people get a quality product that they are happy and satisfied with. This means that we’ll be pushing back the shipping date from around the 4th as originally planned to run these additional tests. This should not affect orders quoted later ship dates just the earliest ones.
Once we receive the cards we'll be testing them immediately for functionality and in as many platforms as we can so we get a more complete picture of the card's capabilities before any cards are shipped. The last thing we (and I'm sure you guys) want is to have a bunch of cards go out that do not function correctly with your system.
I’ll be keeping my eyes and ears out for further updates and will endeavor to provide them directly to the NBR community so that we’re all on the same page. I realize this news will cause disappointment for some of you, but we feel that taking the time to do this extra evaluation is the right thing to do to prevent even heavier disappointments.
If you have concerns I will answer as many of them as I can to the best of my ability. Please direct them to me with the subject line of 'NBR 7970M'
Thanks for your patience and understanding, we're as excited to get the cards to you as you are to receive them! -
welcome to NBR Dan
thanks for the heads-up, this should surely clarify the situation for everyone invested in this
btw, ive heard rumors regarding a potential warranty extension on the cards, provided theres a NBR affiliation involved? is that still current or better just be considered unfounded hearsay?
thanks in advance! -
Thanks for the update Dan, (nice name
). I'm hoping to buy a pair as soon as I can sell off my 6990Ms.
-
do we need bracket and screws if it's R3? I thought we only need card...
-
nowhere to be found (cannot track it with usps anymore, probably out of us is the reason) aaaand Table is not online anymore, I feel like I just threw my money into garbage
frustrated to the point that I am seriously considering to buy m18x with 680m sli by the end of summer

What kind of differences are you suspecting between the ES and MP?
-
I want an ES!

You said it won't effect the later shipments which I assume you mean the may 15th shipments. Does that mean we can assume the may 4th should be shipped by then (May 15th?) -
Well what can i say....SOUR ABOUT THAT DELAY
-
Man this wait is killer for all of us hopeful M17x r2 users. Honestly, if they work I can't imagine I'll ever get rid of this laptop until alienware comes up with something mind blowing.
-
Mr. Fox was talking about quad sli earlier on yesterday
if happens, I will be the first to purchase
-
That would have to be a massive laptop. Can't say wouldn't be far behind you though. If they honestly started doing that they better start amping up the screen resolution.
-
Yeah no need if you already have a 6970M/6990M. You can reuse brackets and screws there.
-
i would really enjoy, M18x as it is with SLI, onboard NuForce DAC, and.... an IPS Screen With ridiciolous resolution and a bullet-proof glass on it so NOTHING COULD SCRATCH IT (i say NO to plexi glass on our RGB's)..... only this would lead me to sell my R2....nothing else
Mr Dan, no problem
we really DO understand , something extra in my box of ''delight'' for the delay
?
extra 7970m card for benching ?
-
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
It can be reused, but it's not easy to get off! At least that's what I thought. So much so that I gave up on trying to take it off in an effort to keep the 6990m functional and paid the 25 for a new one.
Maybe applying some heat will break the adhesive free. -
yeah it can be frustrating but if you intend to get it just need to be patient and pry it out a little at a time. And obviously, be extra careful.
Great! Its now confirmed I will have to wait until May 9th to get the kit >.< -
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
-
nah i already have the card on hand, just lack the bracket to hold it in place
and I'm waiting for it to arrive. -
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
O ok. Hopefully we get ours by then.
-
long, it's not going our way, is it? lol
I keep checking the tracking on my screws, but its' still Shipping Info received.
Actually, just updated. Funny, was told it shipped yesterday, but they received it today for shipping... hmmmm... Doubtful that they'll even get here tomorrow. Hopefully they do though. -
good news Long, eventually it will be there bro, just sit tight
-
I'm slowly losing my desire for the card now... looks like the screws won't be here til Saturday at the Earliest, with Estimated date of Monday. Paid on the 30th... won't be here til the 7th... 380 miles... Awesome.

Go look at the benchmarks again. -
Have you got a Dell card?

I wasn't briefed on the technical details, I've barely had a chance to see our ES cards - they're being tested pretty much around the clock during the day. The scores I have seen out of them are certainly enviable though! I'll see if I can't find out more details for you.
I strongly doubt they'll be THAT delayed. We just want a few extra days with the cards to make sure things are working as we expect and not have any unexpected issues or conflicts. These few extra days shouldn't affect ship dates for later orders. I will post an ETA for shipment of the first cards as soon as we have a better idea of how testing goes.
Thanks for the welcome! A warranty extension was discussed if a bulk purchase were made by a member of NBR. I wasn't the one handling this so I will confirm the details and number of cards required. These cards would all have to be in purchased on a single invoice however.
I'd be careful with heat application, too much and you can cause solder to reflow. Bad things can happen. I've personally found (disclaimer: my personal experience, YMMV) that holding the card while pressing on the screw post with a small jeweler's screwdriver (philips head) in an alternating fashion helps get them off. AVOID prying with a flat tool on the back of the card, there's many tiny little pieces of circuit that are positioned close to the spreader that would be easy to scrape off.
