heavily overclocked it gets 4500 tops...this is a significant diff.
Oh, and i have NOT overclocked the 7970m yet

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
Thanks! Kevin will be happy with it!
-
Just great!!!

Anyway thank you and the other guys you guys are the real deal!! -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
^^ we'll see tomorrow when i OC it a little. THese are stock numbers
-
again thank you for staying up all-night!!
you should take cold drink and enjoy doing this !!

based on scores of 6970 on vantage
7870 and 6970 are pretty similiar in power -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Oh and if anyone was wondering, i posted this in the other forum...
Temps are quite good all things considered.
-
my bro's 6970 is getting 5600 gpu score in 3dmark 2011 and
23500 in vantage gpu for example
and that scores he gets with a i5 @5 ghz.
if this relation is true then it should get around 22k in vantage gpu. -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
6970 has 1536 spus, the 7970m has 1280
the 7870 is clocked at 1100mhz...my card is clocked at 850
THose cards should be much higher
i think i'm in the ballpark -
7870 desktop is 1ghz chip.
and 6970 is very siniliar in benchmarks i looked at.
Like here
Test: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 (Anhang 2) - ComputerBase
the score of 6970 is 14% under 7870@1 ghz thats about the same power of
[email protected] you OC your 7970m then you should get the scores of a 7870 desktop man.
I think -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
^^^ i sure as hell hope so
. We shall see tomorrow
-
there it is:
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870 OC review
look @ vantage of 7870@1ghz and calculate the loss of 150 mhz tommorow lol.
That means oced 24k like?
Good night man!!!
NOTE: WATCH THAT LANGUAGE ! -

where i can buy this CARD!!!
-
whats temps like under loads, gaming etc.
was it easy to fit? im hoping it will fit into clevo 170 -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Nice job slick,
-
Good job SlickDude. You`re doing a great job for the community. +rep
This GPU is a BEAST. Poor Nvidia don`t know what about to hit them, HARD.
Vantage GPU score have increased 50% from 6990M. 3DMark11 GPU score have increased 84% from 6990M. So sick
BTW, I have a request. Can you do a Unigine heaven benchmark for us with these settings? Unigine Heaven 2.1 - high, Tesselation (normal), DirectX11 1280x1024
I want to compare more against 6990M and notebookcheck have those scores. -
Great Job as always Slick +Rep, you have brought hope to all of us that Mobile Gpu's will finally surpass the 560ti and the 570 (580 your next on the hitlist..) . All Hail The Mobile King 7970m, All Hail Slick The Deliverer! I shall now be buying my M17x R4 with the 7970m, and finally joining the Alien Side in our War against overhyped and mediocre Desktops.
-
And just for reference these are 3D Mark 2011 scores for desktop GPUs with high end quad cores
http://www.guru3d.com/imageview.php?image=37129
Slick 7970m at stock speeds (already faster than 570 Desktop)
GTX 580 DESKTOP 3d mark = 6685
Stock speed 7970m without optimized drivers yet = +6000 already
With overclocking+better drivers it can pass/on par of GTX 580 DESKTOP
CRAZY TALK ! 580 Desktop power in a laptop with single GPU
m17x R3 with 7970m and quad core is already being sold for $1,699.00 from alienware
7970M = POWERFUL, RUNS cool and cheap
Knowing Nvidia history in the mobile market they wont achieve all of these together
680m probably = 2x the price runs hot, half a year later and if performed better barely by 5-10% just so nvidia market it as "MOST POWERFUL GPU" -
Very nice scores Slick. Very impressed with the numbers truly sensational. My 580m 20k Vantage score just got blown out of the water. The M17x overclock king should have a go at this
Shame I have a 3D screen and it's not compatible.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Great scores. Congratulations! Did the 7970M come with a new heatsink or are you using the old 6990M HS? The P6125 score is using the Tess cheat, while the P5600 score is straight stock, right?
-
-
I'm still wondering where he picked this up. Excellent numbers and awesome to see got everything working
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
hopefully, i can get some overclocking done today. Sapphire Trixx doesn't work...doesn't recognize the card lol. I might have to edit the driver. Hopefully it works!
Correct, 5600 straight stock
The card is the exact same size and shape as the 6990m, i just reused the stock dell 6990m heatsink
-
Any chance of a vbios? I'd love to take a look
-
Me too.
10char -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
I tried pulling it but GPUz isn't working too well with this card.
What are you gonig to use, RBE?
i can get you guys a peek if you show me how to get it off without using gpuz
And btw...once you get the vbios, up the clock to 900 core for me -
Have you tried using a bootable USB and atiflash?
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
oh gawd No. That sounds like work lol...i'm still suffering from sleep depravation from lastnight
-
As widezu says, ATIflash per DOS bootable USB drive. Not much work at all, if you haven't a prepared USB stick laying around maybe 5 mins total.
Looking at the 7000 desktop series it might not be possible to get the card working with a modified vbios... It seems AMD implemented some new features in the driver and vbios which makes bios modding pretty much impossible atm. -
Could owners of 7970m's post a photo of the card it self ?
We'd love to see it's 28nm DIE
Now i've been wondering as well, about R2 owners....
RGB LED + 7970m (CF) - OMG
Only question is from where to get it, Dell or eurocom/clevo ?
About the vBios mods....sad thing... undervolting+OC'ing could do miracles with 7970 -
So i guess is eurocom/clevo only way to go... hope they would work without any issues.

Slick ~ have you tried playing any games or anything with the new card? If so what kind of fps increase did you see?
-
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
-
Clevo 7970m's would work better in the M17x R2 anyways judging by how the different 6990m's went.
-
So a straight swap out with the 6990M GPU right Slick?
Just a quick thermal paste job and no need to move pads around on the HS?
GPU-z PIC show anything?
1280 Shaders?
Which driver version did you get hacked? The Dell one or 12.3 or 12.4 so that you could install the GPU?
I can't wait to see more testing.
Cheers. -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
The hard part was installing the driver...seems even the latest betas are missing a vital component to make the 7970m's work...FULL Cred goes to wild05kid for spotting that
GPUz isn't working very good with this card...only shows 850/1200 nothing else
I'm currently trying to find a way to overclock the card. This is the problem when there is nothing out there that officially supports the card. -
-
Can you try the AMD overdrive function built in in the driver? Can the regedit trick unlock it?
-
Poor game developers. When we can max out BF3 with 60 fps on ultra with 7970m's and maybe Metro and Crysis 2 what is left for us to test then
.
Hopefully Metro: Last Light or Crysis 3 will be a GPU killer, it is kinda sad not to have something to strive for.
