.
I'm just basing my estimates on desktop gtx 570 in SLI.
-
Hey slick have you perhaps tried the Dox optimised 11.12 drivers? I know they are old but they may be better providing stability and performance tweaks:

couple minutes ago I receive massage from upgradeyourlaptop. Also I asked him about heatsink. Seems to be it will fit from my 6970m to 7970m.
-we will start selling them in about 10 days. Formal launch by AMD is April 24. Price is $450 + shipping. We are verifying HD7970M in Clevo and Alienware platforms so they work. We may need to update EC/BIOS in HM models to get them working.
450$ very good offer. So stay tuned to eBay =) -
Nice good prices
-
Gah I hope they have them before ten days; I want them on Launch day; haha. Ivy Bridge comes out 23rd and this on 24th, very happy day for those of us waiting for a new laptop to replace their desktop. What kind of power usage does this thing have? Does the graphics switching work already or are the drivers not out?
If I can max out BF3 and Skyrim I feel it is a good card for the next 2 or 3 years, then maybe I'll upgrade to a 7990mWhich will be another 30% increase probably haha.
60 fps in ultra 1080p BF3 would be majorly awesome. Thats like a GTX 560 ti or GTX 570 maybe. -
yeah this is an exciting time all around people! If we can push it to desktop GTX 580, what could we possibly hope for more
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
UPDATE:
Games are running great...running around Skyrim countryside at 75+ fps, walking around white run at 70-80fps...Ultra preset 1080p 4x AA 16 AF...no performance mods added. measured by fraps
Will do more tonight -
-
-
Seriously where did you buy it I want to order one like now. Or at least hope resellers like Powernotebooks and Malibal etc. get them this week. I want a Ivy Bridge CPU [3610, maybe 3720] + GCN [7970m] so badly!!!
-
Yeah I would like to see whether it uses the new wider backplate or back to similar ones to the nvidia ones like back in the 7970m series.
-
Now I just wish I could get a 500GB SSD at a normal price; might have to just get a 240GB and only install my favorite games [BF3, Skyrim, Diablo 3] + OS [40GB ish] + programs [another 20GB ish], then still have like 100GB for saves/random stuff. I really can't wait for this all to finally come out so I can get my P150EM....

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Please keep the benchmarks coming. I would like to see Crysis 2, BF3 and Dirt 3 all at ultra presets.

and yeah it's starting to sound more and more tempting. hope it works on the r2... in crossfire.
any info on power usage? i'm curious if the new core means less power usage for the overall card. -
-
From that I am seeing, they aren't really reducing power usage more like packing in the power per watt. Although judging from the heat output, there might be a bit of energy savings
-
The miracle of 7970m
btw I am SURE 614 bucks at Dell is a mistake, this card cannot be sold for cheaper than 675m, they will change the price soon (I remember same happened to 580m at first when it came and some people got away for around 500 dollars) -
This makes the 680m a lot more exciting. We know from desktop that Nvidias new architecture beats AMD, so now imagine a 100 watt card (20 higher than the 7970m) with even better architecture. We could actually see the 680m double the performance of the 580m.
-
It will be interesting to see if the reliability factor has been improved to the level that ATI was once famous for. I'd love to have other options available, but so many poor quality issues and hardware failures with AMD 6970M/6990M made going green the only logical choice. Options are a good thing, so crossing my fingers and watching. Maybe they'll get serious about making good drivers, too. Looking pretty good so far with the ES cards.
-
And the 7970M slaughters it.
Mine should be here in 4-5 days hopefully, woot.

I had 6 AMD cards fail (2 pairs of 6970M and 1 pair of 6990M) within 3 or 4 months, so I'm going to be a tough sell on AMD. Never had any problems with ATI/AMD until the 6900M series and used to prefer ATI over NVIDIA. My 580M ownership experience has been flawless. I'm keeping an open mind about it because I care more about the outcome than I do the journey, LOL.
Edit: thinking back, most (not all) of the AMD issues were CrossFire failures in one form or another. Maybe that's why the better experience with only one AMD card in the R3. Hope they've gotten better at what they do with practice, LOL. As I mentioned before, having options is good... very good. I have no brand loyalty whatsoever when it comes to video cards. Whatever rocks the hardest and lives to tell about it wins. -
The better power consumption based of less transistors count. For that reason the GTX has not as good GPGPU capabilities as the HD 7970 got. And thats why the GTX has lower power consumption and a bit more gaming power.
The Pitcairn (basis of the HD 7970 M) has no extra transistors for GPGPU. And the HD 7870 got a better performance per watt. So i think the GTX 680M will be similar to the HD 7970 M.
I'm looking forward to the GTX 680M just to get an image of what it will capable of. But the extra cost it will may have, wont compensate the may 5% extra performance (for me).
When i'm waiting TSMC's 28nm process will perform better and we can reach better OC results.
So let's see what the close future will bring! -
May I ask where you guys are ordering from? Im ready to order one but not sure if you guys just going through dell or if there is a better vendor
thanks -
Only difference is that it's on very high not ultra and 1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080p
560 ti seems to be bottleneck by the vram at that resolution with 4xAA -
A small aside regarding 3DMark benching... if your drivers are FM verified, is Tessellation running? -

P5600 Tessellation ON
P6100 Tessellation OFF
20k Vantage GPU
Stock clocks, impressive. Just need to wait for official driver support and GPU-Z/Trixx support. -

what on world is going on?!!
anyway, their loss, our gain
this will be legen.. wait for it.. -
This will cause 6970/6990m be massively available on ebay now

This is the happiest I have ever been regarding a computer -
Edit: wow didnt try to raise any controversy here. Chill guys i dont intend to sell it but rather to put it in my cousin's MSI Since his only has a 460M.
-
^^^That would be so wrong.
Surely, you jest. I would hope that no members of this Community would do something so dishonest, as tempting as it might be.
-
Sure Nvidia can do it, but Nbr members can't? Seems like a double standard going on here.
-
some unlucky little kid who knows nothing about hardware will buy it happily only to discover he cannot max the upcoming AAA titles
well, actually buying a 675m he is already ruining himself
-
-
people can I ask for a favor, can anyone post a picture of their thermal pad positioning for 6970m/6990m in their laptop? I saw a video on youtube, but I wanna make sure there is no difference between 6970m and 6990m, THANKS!! Will +rep anyone for the pictures!
-
I have owned both cards and side by side, I would never be able to tell the difference. Ever.
-
-
The 675m is a 580m. You could take a 675m and downflash it to 580m, nothing wrong with doing the reverse. Plus, if Nvidia makes any driver features 600 series specific your buyer would get extra value from you flashing it.
As others have said Nvidia is doing it, so no reason you can't. -
