is it normal that after installing this driver my 5870's are only refered to as HD5800-Series? I can not see 5870 anywhere (gpu-z, cpu-z, hardware monitor,...)

Yep. Perfectly normal. Only Dell drivers show them as 5870 - AMD shows as 5800 series, so you are fine.

    @Stevie

I don't really think that having 2 more gigs of ram is helping me. But if you get the hyperX, lower timing will do something for sure. I really bought the 8 gig kit becouse it was too cheap to pass by :D that's it :p

what i'm really taking into cosideration as upgrade is an xm chip... not that i'm unhappy with my little 840, just that... i think is the benchmark demon that is luring me :D

Xabaras, yeah .... im with you on that one regarding the XM. Im thinking of oner or two SSD's or an XM. Tough choice!

My point of view about this is kind of simple. I don't need the xm for gaming, the 840 is good for that, i want it for benchmarking mostly. The ssd (i'm getting one but definetly will go for the second down the road and build my ssd raid 0 system :droll: ) it's more necesary at the moment becouse analizing my system, mechanic hdd are the bottleneck. so Priority for me is ssd

Hi guys, wanted to ask you something, i have the Dell drivers for my single 5870 (8.763-100810a-104118C-Dell) and VBIOS 012.020.000.027.037640, so far, all is fine, but i'm playing new games and i think this could be better; Is there any better "performance" using this drivers or should keep the stock drivers from dell?.
Thanks, as you know: "Dont' fix what isn't broken" :p

These drivers are applicable to the graphics card (5870 or 5800 series) so just beacuse you only have one, they are still the relevant AMD driver you would want....IF you wanted to use them as opposed to Dell 8.763 drivers.....(which, to let you know, do not offer any differentiation between owners who have crossfire or not...they are related to the gpu only regardless of one or two).

You can use the same driver for a single card, or CrossFire.

worth it to upgrade from 10.12? As i've learned, newer doesn't always mean better when dealing with drivers...

I tired uninstalling everything on my benching SSD, and it somehow hosed my system. I re-imaged, and just installed the drivers over the old ones and that worked. Not really sure what happened. Might try again tommorrow, bt on m working/gaming SSD RAID setup. Image backup first of course. Don't want to mess up that drive setup :p

These drivers do offer a significant performance increase. In my sig, my top Vantage bench, I got a GPU score of 18627 with clocks of 935/1270. With these drivers I benched just the GPU and got a GPU score of 19036, with clocks of 920/1220. Take it how you will ;)

This is the first time I've noticed a difference when upgrading drivers - this is awesome! Only thing is, i installed the cap-files as well. Are they to "blame" for the performance increase, or is it the drivers - or both?

as far as I'm concerned, these drivers are junk compared to 10.2. namely, my counter-strike source FPS's dive from around 180-200 to 50-60 randomly over and over again (with the fans speeding up when the fps drops and slowing back down when the fps comes back up). this happens several times per minute and occurs even while standing still with no action going on (under normal conditions, the FPS should barely fluctuate with this scenario).

note also: this also occurred in 11.1 drivers. i did a clean install too:

    express uninstall all ati software
    run ccleaner
run ccleaner for registry until no errors are found
    run driversweeper 2.85
    reboot
    run ccleaner (finds nothing)
    check driversweeper (finds nothing)

    install drivers
    install 11.2 crossfire profiles

    so yeah...

    Hey guys,

I am new to AMD drivers, I have always been with Nvidia.

    A couple of quick questions...

    1) I am currently running XF HD5870s with latest Dell drivers: Driver Packaging Version 8.763-100810a-104118C-Dell /VBIOS Version 012.020.000.027 BIOS Part Number 113-B96101-104 etc. What do I need to update to latest AMD drivers?

    2) What is the CAP everyone refers to? How do I know if I have it installed?

    Thanks for any help given.

    Shacs.

    1) Basically, the guide to install is on the first page of this thread. As you already have the latest vbios, its a simple case of uninstalling your Dell video drivers and installing the AMD ones. If you follow the guide to uninstalling your current drivers, then install the new ones...its simple as pie. A handy hint would be to have the AMD drivers already downloaded to your desktop so you can simply run the install. (Same goes for CAP).

    2) The CAP files are fixes that you should install for various games - they will help your games run smoother/better if you have them installed. As you have been on Dell drivers, you WONT have them installed as they are AMD stuff and wouldnt have come with your system.

Alex has linked to the CAP download on the first page (and also the drivers). Basically, install these after you have the 11.2 AMD drivers installed. Simply download and run the .exe file.

For your future reference, you should update your CAP files with each release. Simple to do, just uninstall them from programs and then reinstall the latest set.

    Hello,

I have one issue after installing these new drivers (following the procedure in post 1):
My HDMI output no longer stream any Dolby or DTS format.
Under HDMI sound properties, it no longer list the format available (the screenshot in attachment is in French, but normally in the last section you should see the sound format list that the card can manage).

Before going through reinstall and else, anyone has this problem (I connect to a Sony Amp via HDMI, then the Amp to the HDTV)?

Otherwise, no problem with the games so far.

Well, I do know that AMD drivers do not come packaged with a HDMI driver which could be the cause of your problems. I would go into device manager, check "sound video game controllers" - double click it....it wil then show 3 devices. The top one is your HDMI audio. Double click that and then select the driver tab. What do you have? - probably a MS driver, right?

Its a suggestion that you try what Alexnvidia suggested I should try in this thread on post #2 http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/542263-ati-amd-hdmi-audio-driver-5870s-where.html . That got my HDMI audio drivers reinstalled as AMD HDMI and not MS. The driver will obviously be in the 11.2 desktop set as opposed to the 10.12 set referred to in that thread.

I have learnt to do this process upon any install of AMD drivers. I exract the WDM file and insert it into the new set and then install...this way, CCC install manager actually installs the HDMI driver that doesnt come packaged in the mobility set.

Just a thought, hope it may help.

    Great thanks very much :D

I've done it with 11.2 set and then MS driver turned into AMD HDMI. Quick and easy after all :)
Now I know how it works, won't make the mistake next time.
    Again, thanks ;)

I take it everything is working for you now huh? -Also, if you uninstall AMD stuff in the future, you CAN always choose "custom uninstall" and just leave the HDMI driver unchecked. ;) - i prefer to nuke everything and then reinsert the WDM file into my new driver install procedure.

Also thanks (+rep too 'course), but I'm getting this error with the link:
    "Unauthorized Download
We're sorry, but this download request cannot be authorized."

    Maybe another link would do?

Now in my try to understand how CAP works, is it a library thing, increasing infos in each version, or each version is different?

I'm asking cause I was playing Dead Space with CAP 10 something (yeah i'm kinda late) and had to rename the exe into "DarksidersPC" to make it work with CrossFire.
Now after installing the new CAP, the trick is no longer working and the game only uses the 1st card (appart for increasing FAN noise, the mouse is also laggy... problem I had solved on my previous drivers and CAP)...

    Thanks!

alternative link coming up. try and see if it helps.

edit: links up. CAP is like a library thing, increasing in each version. and all the fixes will be added toward the next driver iteration. cap is a quick way to patch the driver in order to support the latest games for our crossfire system.

    Installed, thanks again.

No luck with Dead Space tho... the renaming trick no longer helps it seems.
So I tried RadeonPro a bit => forced the game on The Godfather profile which only works when I use the "Alternate Frame" mode (at least I can have the game using both card, even if it's only 50% each, I don't have that lousy high fan noise again).
Anyway, that's off topic I guess.

Question to stay not so far from topic, how do you know that a CAP is used by the driver or not?
Like maybe I messed the instalation (altho I didn't change the default)..

By the way, sorry to bother, but do you have an answer to this question?

How do you know that a CAP is properly used by the driver?
I have no idea if CAP are properly installed and used... and from the tests i did with RadeonPro, doesn't seem conclusive
(ATI ain't so good with this profiles... heard nVidia was much easier)

Edit: @JaiaV, did you use the alternate link, AMD one is also ko for me.

The CAPs install some sort of data file that the drivers read when starting up a game. There's nothing really to see, other than potential increased performance in games.

The only thing you can easily see is if the CAPs are installed. If they are, I guess you have to assume they're working.

It looks like we have a fix for the sleep issues. Please head on over to the other thread and check it out.

There is a post by DELLChrisM on how to get the fix from Dell. We need more testers to confirm the fix. So far, it's just me and steviejones, so we need your support.

If you noticed from my multiple posts on the other thread, I had some issues at first also. (I outlined them on the other thread, in case anyone else experiences similar troubles.) I flashed the BIOS update a second time and reinstalled my video drivers. If you were not having flickering before, this may take care of it.

Hey all. I currently have a single 5870 GPU with Dell drivers. Would the 11.2 drivers be worth updating to? I also am using A08 bios with no problems and would like to know if I would have to update to A10 to use 11.2 drivers? My current driver is listed as ATI Technologies, 8/10/2010, 8.763.0.0.

There's something I've always wondered when installing AMD drivers.

When you download the Catalyst Software Suite (the really small file) and run, it saves the Catalyst Mobility Utility application to your chosen destination.

When you run the CCC application it installs a folder "AMD" in your C: drive next to your Program Files.

Then it asks you to install another file.

Then you run the file and install CCC, drivers, etc..

In the C: drive there is now an ATI and AMD folder.
In Program Files, there is now an ATI and an ATI Technologies folder.
In Program Files (x86/64) there yet another ATI Technologies folder.

Which one of these can you delete after installing CCC? o_O I must know...

So I just received my m17x r2 yesterday from Dell and it has CF 5870s and the 740 processor and 4gb or ram and I am not getting the performance I thought it should get. And in call of duty modern warfare 2 and mx vs atv unleashed it keeps flickering and chopping. I updated to 11.2. What could be my problem. It's on performance mode and CF is enabled. Dnot know how to fix it. I didnt think I would have to update graphics bios being that I just got it.

yeah, it's available since yesterday as a preview for amd 6990 dual gpu desktop graphics card, but it supports a host of other high end desktop gpus as well. not officially available for mobility though, but if you guys want it, i can upload and provide the link for a modded version of 11.4. also, 11.3 is just around the corner, so watch out for a driver update soon.. ;)
