im pretty sure i ordered from the same guy you did, i asked for expedited shipping but he wasnt sure he could do it. Alas i got 7 day....
-
for anyone that cares, 5870's are only $75 more than the 4870's were. Dell's dropped the price by $25 on the 4870 upgrade option.
-
I ordered from the same guy too, and asked for NDD to, he said the same thing, oh well, call in a few days to Dell CS and ask for it
-
There is a discrepancy on mine too. Online it says edd is 6/2/2010 and on the phone it says the edd is 6/1/2010. Not that I'm complaining, lol. I have nbd shipping fyi. They may not have applied your next day shipping.
-
The phone number is the most reliable.
-
Very nice. Congratulations to everyone who has placed an order.
I hope Dell has enough for all the new orders as well as the influx of warranty returns with conveniently timed system issues.
-
I don't have his direct number but I was able to contact the department he works at and was told he would call me back in 30 mins. It's been an hour and no news. Hopefully I'll get a hold of him soon.
-
Putting in my order tomorrow but now I am second guessing if I should wait for the 940XM...
Also, anyone remembers the bench from the 256gb SSD. I could run them again but I am being lazy... I may just want to order the Vertex Turbo instead. -
Expecting technical difficulties?
I am. -
Beta testing FTW! -
I would definitely go for the Vertex 2 over the one dell gives you.
-
I haven't seen a successful implementation of an i7+4870XF yet. Then again my rep is trying to convince me to get the 5870s.
-
I placed the order and it's already in production/build stage. See sig for detals.
It came up to about $3350 before tax (-10% EPP and additional -$200 off by haggling the rep). I also got free NBD shipping. -
Mine was 100% successful. Not the initial release of course but the 2nd system was perfect. -
Vertex 2 is going to be too expensive. The 250gb model is going to be around $1,500.00
I am thinking either about Vertex turbo or Vertex Limited Edition if I can afford it. -
So I called asking for an upgrade kit. That was a good time. After a half hour of telling the guy what I want, we get to where I'm about to give him my credit card number for $490 shipped, when he makes it clear that it's only for one card, even though we've been saying crossfire the whole time. He then says it would be 900 for both cards. At which point I got off the phone to consult the experts here. Am I misundertanding something, or was the original $490 the correct price to get two 5870s. Thanks for the help.
-
well the m17x r2 is officially the undisputed most powerful laptop
-
If I where in your shoes... I will at least try to wait for the 940XM... and even for a six core upcoming.
-
Ordered!
-
Why do you think the 940XM is really worth the wait?
-
Until Clevo's X7200
SLi 480M + desktop CPU will beat out the M17x in raw performance but that's about all it'll beat it in.
-
This is what I was trying to say before: regarding the 4870 the configuration page STATES: " DUAL... but in regard to the 5870 IT DOESN'T STATE IT CLEARLY WITH THE WORD "DUAL"...
What that's mean? -
No clue, but the guy on the phone very clearly told me it was just for one card. Even though the entire phone call we talked about how I had dual 4870's and wanted to upgrade to the 5870's. He said it would be $900 for two 5870's.
-
As you already know, I'm not an expert at all, but the so called "common sense" (i'm an old guy) teach me to try to have the "last" edition possible. At least it help me when I try to sell my olders computers to renew my options. My students, always pressed by the cent, buy what they can afford, and then are running after the new CPUs to upgrade their systems. I have several notebooks one older than the other. The one I'm using now is an Inspiron 8600... never was updated because I buy it with the full and last options. Same with the Inspiron 8100... etc. You can believe me when I say that this piece of art work better than many brand new computers and rend superb dinamyc graphics in my my lectures.
So, it wasn't mpre than the opinion of an "antique" guy
P.S.: BTW, I'm not, by all means, the kind of guy that think that the old ones "knows better"... I learn every day and minute from my students (and my childs). -
It is my understanding the 940XM is just a simple frequency up compared to the 920XM which does not make it great to me as a gamer.
On the other hand, the Vertex LE if I can afford seems like a huge up in performance for the overall laptop.
The last thing is RAM, I know Mandrake love the Kingston RAM which I have on my R1 but I wanted to get more than 4gb for my intensive photoshop apps. I just cannot find the same RAM in 8gb setup. -
The 940XM might actually have zero affect on the M17xR2. Would love to test one.
-
Thanks! see what I'm doing? I say something provocative regarding your own words: "Putting in my order tomorrow but now I am second guessing if I should wait for the 940XM..." to make you explain (so I can learn...
)
-
Damn mine is getting here tomorrow with 4870's, could someone explain the return process to me?
Also, I'm hoping it won't be a pain in the butt for me, because I called Dell up to order the M17x and the deal they gave me was a couple hundred off plus a netbook, I'm hoping I don't have to return the netbook. -
Call your rep or just Dell saying that you wanted the CF5870 but you were told it was not coming for another 6 month and you are there just 20 days after purchase and it's there. You feel it's not fair you and you were misrepresented by the reps.
I would never suggest anyone to telling stories but we've been misrepresented by so many reps on the CF5870 that they have to assume their responsibilities. -
Do you think I would have to ship back my one with 4870's and then wait for them to receive it in order to send me the new one, or would they just ship me off the new one and have me send back the one with 4870's?
-
They tell you it will have to be a new order.
-
Dellienware Workstations & Ultrabooks
i thought there was a whole thread for this issue
-
Now that I finally placed the order I wanted (5870CF) I'm starting to have a small (very small) hesitation whether I should've waited for 480M SLI. The only reason for that would be Physx but I'm not sure if it would've been worth the additional wait. Oh well, I guess I'm just hard to please...
-
I have been email contact with a Dell Rep in Australia about shipping times and queried about dual 5870's
this is her reply
Hi The Forge.NZ
The 5870 is not going to be due this quarter. Probably only about another 2 more months.
May I know the reason that you need this particular specification

This is crap, remember never trust Dell reps, they are the most clueless people on earth.
-
My update:
My replacement is now changed, and my CF 5870's are on the way with expedited processing and overnight shipping. I'll have benches up the day I get mine.
Should be just in time for me to go into surgery for my back. It'll make the recovery that much easier : ) -
That's about exactly the same timing reply I got from the rep in NZ (who was probably in Australia as well tbh).
-
It's been out for a while and the largest is 200gb. for 749.99 at Newegg. Just recently went out of stock though.

lol, there's no such thing as "expedited". That's just something they tell you to make you feel better or get you off the phone if you are complaining. They tell everyone and their grandma that their order is expedited. They don't go out of their way to move anyone's computer to the front of the line.
-
have we confirmed that the 5870's are GDDR5?
Also its interesting how ATI and Nvidia never seem to use the same criteria to measure performance. It would be nice if there was a standard measurement like HP for cars that you could compare between NV and ATI.
I was looking at GB fill rates for the ati 5870 and NV gtx285 and i couldnt determine how to compare them from thier spec sheets on NV and AMD websites. -
ordered edd 6/18
-
Ill have to wait to purchase the upgrade kit when im deployed soon but im still super happy with my 2 lappys
-
Watch that ended up being a grand
-
pshh doubt it ill cry once i get an official price lol but i doubt it will be a grand. ignore estimates until you get one yourself dont let the fear control you!
-
Ok, apologies in advance if this is a stupid question but how much faster are these than dual 4870's? I might get one but might hold off to get the 5870's, its just that I can get a good price on the x4870 setup.
-
No one knows for sure yet as soon as people get them in youll see them start posting benches and comparisons
