Yeahinb4 mass delay.

I'd guess 2 hours and some change. I doubt it's any worse than crossfire 4870. So guys, I'll be comparing 4870 xf vs 5870 xf directly though the CPU's will be a bit different (i720 vs i820). The 4870xf system is arriving on Wed and the 5870xf is in my sig, going to try to bump it up to NBD so I can get it by june 2nd. -

As far as I know, the 5870's only come with GDDR5. The 5850's on the other hand have a model that comes in GDDR5 and GDDR3. -

Cool, looking forward to your benches, rep is waiting. -
So why aren't they available for Canada? Are they produced in different areas? Did a Canadian pee in Micheal Dell's cereal?
-
Same here, definately awaiting some analysis Joker. Grats to all you wise folks who are not waiting for the soon to be bust in form the 480 GTX! *Cough* unjustified price increase for marginal performance increase *Cough* (sorry Joker I know you like Nvidia)
-
This is some cool news! However, I'm kind of torn on what to do here...
If the CF 5870's are significantly better than 4870's (which apparently they are, right?), then I would like to get them somehow, just not sure how.
Since my current system is a replacement, but still within 21 days (date of arrival, or date of shipping?), I could still issue a return, right? Even if I can, though, I'm not sure I want to go through all the hassle with Dell as it took me almost two months to get my R2 replacement in the first place... and I would have no good computer from return until new delivery...
So my next question is what is the upgrading policy like? Is it possible to just order the cards and switch them out with my 4870s while maintaining warranty? And would I need to keep the 4870s or could I sell them and still maintain warranty? -

I'm also wondering why the website doesn't say anything about 'DUAL' 5870s, while the 4870s mention it specifically.
-
XF is dual GPU's
-
It seems to be confusing their reps too, at least the one I talked to. Called to order the upgrade kit and literaly a half hour into the call when I'm ready to give the credit card number, the tech switches to saying it's only one card and that a set of two would be $940. Going to try calling again tomorrow and see what happens. I was also told they were out of stock, but that I could still order.
-
So what can we expect with Vantage scores?
You people think the PSU(240W) can handle everything without the dreaded micro-stutters?
It would really suck if someone configures one with a 920XM and can't utilize it to it's full potential.
@ Joker i think your review will be the post to look at when your done. -
Sounds about right after their markup I guess. You are buying 2x 5870 after all, therefore its twice the price. ~470 each I guess.
-
Yeah price doesn't seem too crazy. But there were a couple people on here who said they they were quoted $470 as well. Both the rep and I were very clear throughout the whole conversation that we were talking about two for XF. Then at the end he switched. Last set of 4870s that actually sold on ebay was for $600. Only other ones are listed for 900, but they aren't selling.
-
This is what I'm saying from the begining...
It's not so "obvious" that if sated XF or CF it's mean "dual" cards.
Regarding the 4870 they state explicitly: "Dual" 1GB...etc.
why they do not state the same way for the 5870...?
Hope this will not lead to dissapointments...
After months of waiting... I will wait a little more until I can see the post of the actual buyers... the truth worth 2-3 weeks more. -
dude, there is 100% no possible way that they would sell you CrossfireX 5870's in a single card config. No need to wait. 150% chance someone with crossfirex 5870 will get two cards. It's not that hard to figure out.
-
I'm putting my order in at the end of the day, but to everyone considering waiting for the 480M SLI or the 940xm, I suggest getting it now with the 5870's and simply enjoying it. I've been waiting for 5870's since mid Jan and it's finally getting here. Remember that with the 480M's or 940's there is going to be a required BIOS update to support those products and it's going to take Dell forever and a day to get those up to snuff.
I missed out on 4+ months of gaming due to waiting. Definately not worth it. Besides, you can get it with a transferable warranty so if you decide to upgrade later, you can always sell, and the warranty is a big plus when you sell. -

AFAIK the 480M is already supported in the A05 bios. It's codename is in the release notes, you can find it in the A05 bios thread I posted here. -
Logic check: Why would you pay nearly 2 times as much money for the same card? You wouldn't, and it was already confirmed that the regular 5870 has the CF connection. Therefore, logically, you know that you are buying 2 5870s.
"Dual" and "CrossfireX" are fairly redundant terms, especially when discussed in laptops IMO. -
Is the 480M really worth waiting for? I wouldnt think PSU would be enough to hold them in SLI and 940XM, Im thinking of buying a 940XM and upgrading it when they come out...Same with 5870s..
-
Oh yea, I had seen that. Maybe it won't be so long than. Than again, it's dell.
-

Yeah for sure. I know Clevo is upping their PSU's on new models coming out this summer so I suppose Alienware/Dell will do the same especially because of the 480M. -
dude, when they call it "crossfire" that means two cards, do not have to repeat the dual thing. u will never find someone using one card and name it crossfire in the market.
-
This is now available on the UK site too! \

About the arguements, you have to understand, as I'm sure you have seen, Dell has gone back and forth on the issue. Mostly though, it's been word of mouth, which is often wrong.
People get info from reps, who for the most part,do not really know whats going on.
So if there were negative comments based on 5870's the reason people are skeptical is because it wasn'ton the website. We've seen plenty of reps who don't know the differance between 4870/5870. Likely they assume we mean 4870 and are computer illiterate so false information gets out based on miscommunication.
I guess what I'm saying is that criticism is based on speculation and on the ideas, that somewhere along the line a rep is saying what you want to hear to make a sale. Weeks ago when 5870's first appeared plenty of people ordered the 5870 x-fire, only to have the order changed or canceled.
I don't think you should let the comments of a few dissuade you from posting in the future. Often times I think people are skeptical of new comers with a low post count. Post count doesn't equal knowledge. -
the first 3 normal CS people told me this. However when I finnaly I spoke with my premium warranty tech last night, he say it *might* be possible for me to recieve the upgrade as an exhchange since I'm within the return period(and I've only had the laptop for 3 days), but he's not making any promises. I'm not holding out any hope, but we spent 45minuites last night trying to get ahold of his boss. I'll post up my results when he calls me back today.
-
we in europe getting ripped of as usual.
390 euro more for either crosfire 4870 or 5870.
