Yeah I paid about 9% tax, it kills any savings you get. And to think California is still broke despite the high tax.

These can be offset somewhat, configuring from the EPP portal. It just requires a little patience and investigation.

in the netherlands we pay 19% tax.. and cards are twice the price here.. i would take 9% with a smile and do a happy dance while i'm at it..
i find it funny that some americans (no offence) whine for tax and gas.
we pay almost 7 dollars a gallon here.

LOL, you guys complain a lot. Compare that tax to 22% in Poland or 19 % in Germany.

The xfire 5870s went on delay today, so that's why yours is going to mid June. Hopefully that will change in the next few days when they get new stock. So, you might end up getting it much sooner than it states now.

    Hi Joker,

Yeah, I was trying to offer a helpful 'hint', without alluding to all the systematic nuances. You have to think beyond a mere $100 coupon code..... I mean, Dell's own website indicates savings can be had up to 30%, so clearly, substantial profit margins are in place, and more savings is to be had. I'd prove it to you, but I am not sure now that I want to bite on the M17x at this time..... but I do believe I posted a 26% savings (actually 19% savings, minus my 7% sales tax) on a previous M17x build. Bottomline..... with EPP, coupon codes, etc., Dell plays marketing roulette like an automotive dealership, and they have plenty of room to play.

Anyhow, nuff said on this subject.......

    :)

Yep I get ya man, I got a pretty nice discount on the machine regardless. ;) You should grab the M17x, the X7200 won't really be much of a competitor overall unless you're a fan of desktop CPU's.

lol@wattos, nah man I only have two M17x-R2's :D I just got my EDD changed to June 2nd! Called Dell and they gave me free NBD and expedited building..woot.

A few people said that the 5870s don't exist in DDR3 form, unlike the 5850 which can be either.

    Order Confirmed:

    M17X R2 Space Black
    820QM
    RGB LED
    4gb 1333mhz HyperX RAM
    Crossfire 5870
200gb Vertex LE (Main) & 128gb Dell SSD for secondary storage

Hopefully that PC will last me longer than the M17X R1...

That's a bit of a side topic but the sales rep said I would have to call back for the SSD caddy parts. Anyone here remember what I need to order to put my Vertex SSD? To make it the main SSD do I need to put it in bay 1?

I called Alienware today. (specs are in Sig) told them I wanted to buy a second 5870 (including Xfire cable and fan etc.) After having the guy check around for me. Buying a single 5870 is currently not an available upgrade option. I unfortunately did not ask him about buying a new set of 5870's in Xfire.

I'm just 0 for 2 with the M17xR2. I saw a similar problem with both systems that makes me worried about getting a third. Maybe when the 480M comes out.

I called today and had my order "expedited" in building and shipping changed to NBD as well. Now June 3rd.

My original date was june 7th, which conflicts with my anniversary so i wouldnt have been home to receive.

The rep totally understood and made the changes. that was pretty cool.

    +1 rep dell.

Not to be sarcastic, but in this case its true. So i'm glad that the rep was so good about it. They certainly didn't have to do it and certainly not for free like they did so I'm pretty happy with them.

i really was unsure about getting the 920xm but decided to stick with my mantra, "Always max out the cpu and video, everything else is easily upgradeable".

I was thinking more of the future just in case something happens with this unit in a year or two i know i'd want the replacement to be top of the line.

Ouch though it was still expensive. even with EPP + another 6%.

So i just ordered my M17x.
    i7 720 QM
    CF5870
    4 gigs 1333 ram
    128 gig SSD
    1200p screen

I ordered this last night, before there site updated with a new thing that CF5870 can push back your order. The Tech i was going throw wanted me to order asap so i wouldn't have to be pushed back. Estimated Delivery is June 27th. !
That is over 1 month for this laptop. I'm defiantly calling tomorrow to find a sales rep to see what kind of swag i can get for having to wait over a month for a laptop be to built. Maybe ill threaten to cancel my order and ask for my money back and they might give me further discounts. I know in a month AW will have plenty more things going on and ill be loosing out on money by just having my laptop being built.

Advice on what i should do is welcome.

Hey Ourself, call em back saying that you want to cancel the order. They will ask why and you tell em that the building time is just way to long and you can't wait for that ridiculous long.

You will get your order expedited or at least you will get further discount, $150 at least I believe. I can't guarantee you on the EDD date but I can tell you will ALWAYS get further discount just by simply calling to cancel order. I did it quite a few times and I ALWAYS get further discount.

    Cheers!
