Possibly due to limited quantity. If you're a potential new customer, seeing a big delay when selecting options may turn you to a competitor instead of waiting.

Whereas, if you're an existing m17x owner - you're practically a captive audience and you more than likely will wait for it.

Considering that now when you order CF 5870, your order gets delayed for 2 weeks, I would say its not random, but a supply issue, no doubt due to the enthusiastic members of NBR...

i am happy to see i am not the only keeping my machine with dual 4870s (its a free replacement anyway) and trying to find the Crossfire 5870 kit.

what are you saying guys is that the kit for cf 5870 is not available YET? or it wont be available at all? i mean the older CF 4870 kit can be ordered now?

thus anyone tried if single 5870 can be ordered as part now?

It isnt ready to order "yet" I assume it will become ready soon, I might go talk to a US Dell Rep and see what they say with a timeframe for being able to order them.

ok keep us all informed please. i cant sleep because of this. lool

also please ask them if single 5870 can be ordered instead of CF 5870. then people with dual 4870s could buy two of those and use the equipment from dual 4870s (second heatsink and cf cable) to set them in Crossfire.

I thought the cards were different? Could be wrong. But, I thought that with the 4870's at least, they were physicaly different or something.

    0 for 2?

Yeah, I have decided to cool-my-jets, and hold off a bit myself. As of late, I have been focusing on updating my desktop systems and home network, so I am not quite up-to-speed here. I assume you are referring to the stuttering, throttling, and sync issues? Do we have our eye on the X7200?

    :)

A single card is around 400. I say around because a few sales representatives have said since a single 4870 is 410, a 5870 will be roughly the same.
Ive gotten two systems now a week ahead of schedule. I think the given delivery date is just Rulee of thumb to go off of ;)

I was going to buy another R2 today, but I decided to wait until E3 ends before I buy. You should just try to hold out until then as well. See what Alienware may have up their sleeves first.

yes Hurry up dell , although the price will be more closer to 3000  I think as duel 4870's are going for 2800

Have to trade in my Dell 1530 , still a good notebook but the 8600M GT is way outdated now . all the new games are too slow on it now.

My brother can have it , he will put windows 7 on it as I cant be bothered. He doesnt play many games so with the new operating system the lappa should last him a while longer than with plonky vista.

I'm guessing they will introduce a new system in the fall along with nvidia cards for the M17x but that seems so far away right now. ;)

First one had the flickering issue and the second one ended up with a bad system board. They both had issues with posting whenever there was ANY bios change.

There is no common throttling issue I'm aware of. They don't set the multipliers right for the 920 but that's about it.
