Good point, I do like shiny toys. Email sent of to dell. 720 under a 3yr warranty sounds much better than a 520 / 3yr warranty. Epsecially since people buying alienware probably want more than a 520.

    Dunno about the resale value
(especially when 740/840/940 are almost here and AMD is on fire entering the notebook segment, finally) but there's one important plus in having a 520M - extremely low temps.
I have a room temp of 30C  and with no coolerpad my CPU doesn't even get above 65C during gaming. 720 got above 75C a few times.

on my broken m17x r1 the wireless and bluetooth cables look like one bound cable.

Most gamers want the quad core over the dual core. It's a psychological thing. ;) The newer processors are irrelevant for the moment.

So the new processor break the mold, so in actuality we are starting from square one with gaming, but in reference to benching it is still good to have a higher quad based processor since those benching tools still favor faster quads.

There's no straight answer for this. Since these procs will carry the same TDP they may not even be an advantage for benchmarking over the current quads. As far as quad vs dual it really depends on the benchmark just like gaming.

The new processors coming out are minor upgrades compared to the Sandy Bridge release next year. I already did some benchmarks with the 920XM @3.8Ghz on all four cores. The proc was reporting a TDP of 110W when I did this. Unless the 940XM ran at faster speeds with a lower TDP the increase will be minimal in some systems and non-existent in others.

so even a I5-520m can compliment a CF 5870 set up and not be the bottle neck in the set up. sorry for being the n00b with all my 1st grade questions.

Absolutely. The differences would be measurable with benchmarking tools, rarely would you see them in actual game play.

yes i add to this. gpus are the most important thing for gaming. then cpus. and except from benchmark or fps 4870s wont have any difference to 5870s for a normal to slightly advanced user. all of us here we think ourselves benchmarkers or something and we want the latest thus losing the real meaning of everything.

the only reason for me to move to the 5870's would be to have a more sustained higher frames per second and stability for those hard to maintain action scenes in games running at 1200p.

The reason to go to a 5870 is DX11 support. Hard to justify 2 of them unless you like to benchmark.

same reason as in my case. i want to see what this dx11 is finally and if there is any observable difference. even though i am sure i wont see any difference i am also curious.

the cf selection is because if i want to use the 1900x1200 resolution to see the details of this dx11 then i must use dual mobile gpu graphics. if i was on desktop the single 5870 would outperform dual mobile 5870s

Anyone know if on the R2 you need the modded drivers for catalyst or you can just install the ones from ATI's website?

lol so I originally had 7 day shipping which put my estimated delivery date at 6/18/10 so then I called dell to get NBD which they did and now my shipping is next business day but it only shaved off 2 days so now my estimated delivery date is 6/16/10 which is a Sunday.

Oh and the rep said he expects my notebook to ship next week lol.. based on the information he had.

I wonder until which point Dell can restrict PC purchase from someone that has returned too many PC's.

For example, I am not able to return a PC at Costco anymore, they officially warned me by letter after my 9th return in 2 years which is crazy because I bought over 20 PC. Not all got returned. (It was work related...)

If I were you I would do it since you never had one. Since Dell's return policy is lenient it's worth trying to see if it's something you like.

There are youtube video's out there showing you the difference between DX10 and DX11. Check them out.

The addiction? I have had that for YEARS...... but now I at least admit it, so I am TRYING to stave-off the itch right now. Besides, one of my new DX11 i7 DT's (w/ new HD mon - WOOT!) arrives tommorow, so that should distract me for a day or two.

PLEASE, do not tempt me further! PLEASE! I BEG YOU!
