With me you'll either hear me whine about it or I'll just start posting benchmarks. ;)

desktop gpus are far larger, so much more space to use for transistors, technology and stuff. this will always be the case. if they leave the technology of dekstop gpus at a current point and improve technology only of mobile gpus then you can say desktop gpus are similar to mobile ones, back this will mean they dont produce new desktop gpu technology which will never happen. desktop gpus will always be a step forward.

Yep, I agree desktop GPU will always be better but to which point? I mean I am pretty sure that 25 to 50 years from now, desktop PCs probably won't exist anymore and everything will be so small that graphics similar to what the human eye produces for us will be possible with a graphic card no bigger than an Iphone and with no required cooling system... It's coming one day...

Nice Video, from what I can see the direct X11 is making more use of displacement mapping in live video games to match closer to the original models created before sent into the gaming engine.

I will be extreamly happy with my m17x when i get it.
I went from a amd 1.4 ghz(single core) 1.5 gigs of ram nvidia 8800 gt to....
i7 720QM 4 gigs of 1333 ram CF 5870 ATI 128 gig SSD 1200p screen. Im really looking forward to this.
At the moment i got a 36% discount and NBD shipping due to some problems that accrued when i ordered throw dell. hears hopping that my discount stays the same until i get my laptop!

I don't want to jinx anything, but right now i'm sitting at a 36% discount. Due to a accounting error or what I'm still waiting on a manager to call me back.

Did they forget something or are 4870s now available with GDDR5?

That's very cool that you were able to get it so high off of deals. I hit a dead end of 12% my first few phone calls but after some stuff happened with my order and talking to dell managers the discounts seem to keep rising.

There was a couple month period were the standard EPP discount of 10% was stacking with your own work EPP % discount. It only supposed to take whatever the highest discount is but stacked it on each other instead. That was sweet.

I've seen that ad too, I think they're just confused.

I spoke with our Dell business rep in Aus earlier this week. He said the Crossfire 5870 option would be available in NZ\Aus by the end of next week.

Yeah and just a few days ago, some AU reps were saying that the CF5870 won't come for another 3 months. I love how we confirm on a daily basis that reps are just useless...

For sure, infact the day before I contacted my buisness rep, a general customer service rep told me precisely that, 3+ months.

In my experience tho there's a huge difference between a business rep who will actually go that extra mile for a regular, and a general customer service rep who is not privvy to, nor will go outside their usual circle for, accurate information.

    FWIW...

Under-promise, over-deliver I suppose. I guess they have to cover their own backsides - if they suggest something will be available at a certain date and it's not there's always going to be at least one person who throws a tantrum about it and demands something for free because of the inconvenience.

In any case, hopefully it's just a minor typo fix and it's definitely available for us. Based on this update, the price hasn't changed so I wonder if that'll stay the same.

I was wondering since I ordered online, could I call a Dell rep and ask for NBD delivery or something like that for free like others have? I haven't seen that happen on this forum with online orders though.

i can bet UK Dell ones are the worst. i told them why my first replacement order with dual 5870s was cancelled because they said dual 5870s were incompatible, and that i wanted my second replacement to be configured like that. The result after talking to 10 people for 1 hour was to connect me with techniqal team (not order team) and finally someone said he couldnt do that.

i also asked them via email why my replacement order was for 10 days in pre-production and they just described me why my machine was replaced.

what can i say about those guys? i wont say anything as i will be infracted again by the mods. And UK Dell is full of useless people from the whole world (many of those dont even understand-speak good english) , keeping you on the phone just to take money for the time you are waiting.

i am not sure about this but they seem to send dual 4870s to replacements to get rid of stock. Especially in UK the price of dual 4870s is exactly the same as dual 5870s. thus they show the 4870s to be delayed, but not 5870s. so who would buy the 4870s now on?

So they actually made fun of me. And they never replied to my email telling them that their services are unacceptable or anything like that.

i am really thinking of returning it as soon as it comes (monday hopefully), not because it wont have dual 5870s (i can buy them as a kit) but because they dont deserve even a penny from what i gave them. And i dont have to talk about their prices.

Well, to be fair - they don't have to replace 4870s with 5870s just because they're available. The replacement is at their discretion as long as it is at least as good as your current system.

So you're going to try for a refund? I don't like your chances but if you're successful - and since you don't want to give Dell any money - which manufacturer will you buy your next laptop from?

to be fair they choose the specs according to the replaced machine price. the price of 4870s is the same as 5870s as i said before. Thus the R1 had SLI GTX260 and SLI GTX280. like the 4870 vs 5870 and guess what i had the SLI GTX280.

The chances are great as i will ask for return as soon as i get it. And believe me i have good reasons. They also forgot to put bluetooth, as my replaced machine had.

The next -manufacturer- is called US Dell thus taking advantage of reduced prices, goood services and currency.

Sadly it seems the return policy is not in due for replacements. Thus if i order from US through hid-evolution for example, this way has great VAT and the cost prohibits my new purchase. Actually its a lot more than ordering the 5870 CF Kit as extra.

i ll order the kit when available. it seems i do not have other option. Well done Dell

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm hoping i don't have a similar fate when i ask them, for the 5870CF, I'm praying ill be able to either get them free; or buy them with my 920XM

actually i am not. As far as the cost when ordering from US +VAT is huge.

by the way the cost of an 920XM must be higher than two 5870s.

Even if could order with 5870s now it would take 1 month, same time as the time needed for the new Upgrade Kit to be available. At least according to what people here say. So i can use my machine till then (then order the Kit) than waiting for my new order.

    Dual 5870s in AUS = $300
    920XM = $1,224
So yeah the price is High; Hence Why Im all (Could you give me the 5870s for free and ill pay for the 920XM.) With all the problems i've had with my M17x i should get them as a type of compensation. etc. But anyway.

if i had the option i would select 5870s instead of 920XM. the only reason is that Dell 5870s are nowhere to be found for the time being. Even us or people who newly ordered with 5870s we all have to wait.
Its sad to think my replacement process was undergone the period between the 5870s first appeared on some EU sites and then dissapeared. My first replacement order was with dual 5870s and 920XM. yeah! it just was!

by the way the price you say its for one 5870 not dual. at least i guess from the price difference.
