Cheers - worked for me for about 2 hours before computer froze and I had to hard power out of it. Was running High at 1920x1080, framerates were just about acceptable.
It was the first time I'd played the game and I was happy enough.
next thing to try will be getting rid of motion blur as I hate it.

i just rename crysis.exe to bioshock.exe. drivers 10.11flicking goes away
fps is about 60 and below - dependant on map or area
this on extreme aswell, on high i thought it would stay up in 60s...so far seems alright...
never again i am going back to amd/ati again...all this bull crossfirex problems renaming things patching things. Nvidia SLI Next Please..... -
I installed the game and patched it before hearing about the flickering issue. It was pretty horrific (running in Crossfire mode). I googled for a solution, and I found a suggestion that ended up working for me. Apparently, all you have to do is set the game to play in windowed mode. It may not work for everyone, but this is probably worth a shot before you go doing anything drastic.
I don't think the framerate was the greatest, but it was playable on Extreme. There's still some kind of weird stuttering with the audio during the briefings before you start each mission though, but whatever, I'm just glad I didn't have to deal with the flickering anymore (just finished the game a little while ago). -
This game runs beautifully with the R3 + 6970M. I did a test run today with FRAPs with settings on extreme + 1080p and it rarely went below 30 fps.
-
as long as there's proper crossfire profile support, 6970M will never get close to 5870M CF. notice the all important CF Profile support which comes in the form of Catalyst App Profile (CAP). BOTH CF and SLI are problematic regardless who made them during the lauching of a new game because of lack of CF/SLI profile support. and it's made worse with each patch release from game developers. basically, gpu driver support is always lagging and it can take a few days or even weeks until they release a fixed driver.
For crysis2, amd actually released a CAP for v1.0 launch release, BUT with v1.1 patch which altered graphical settings, that CAP is rendered useless. I've noticed the same issue with starcraft 2 CF support. it took a few weeks for CF profile release to work properly, but now, since blizzard released their newer recent patches with modifications to graphics settings, CF is again having trouble. this arguement goes the same with nvidia's camp.
Basically, it all boils down to how fast and efficient AMD/nvidia's driver teams are because regardless of CF or SLI, they need proper profiles in order to play the latest games or handle the latest patches especially when graphical settings are altered.
assuming both camps have proper profile support for a title, recent amd drivers are actually scaling better than nvidia's SLI. you can check out articles from tomshardware regarding recent CF/SLI scaling. -

Well it's a lot more than just an increase in stream processors, you have double the color ROPs, twice the memory bandwidth and improved tesselation. It's true that profiles can make a big difference with crossfire scaling but I've tested situations where the GPUs are fully utilized and the difference doesn't really exceed 15%. And as I mentioned, in DX11 that margin basically shrinks to nothing.
There are other gameplay factors I noted that again bring up the inherent weakness of dual card systems vs a strong single card which I'll be discussing very soon in a review.
Just imagine if everyone's 6970M had 1120 shaders like Ichime's ES edition, then there would be no discussion of which is better. -
-
I also have low fps (20-30 or so) running on LOWEST quality and lower res I think.
I have M17x R2 with: 5870 CF, i7 820QM and 8GB RAM @ 1333mhz =/ -
I decided that as this game seems to have issues with xfire etc, I'm running it on my desktop instead. Skipping trying it on the R2
-
are you sure stealth isnt activated.
I get 19-25 fps on extreme 1920x1080 with only 1 5870 and using crossfire i get 30-50 fps -
-
How do you check if stealth is activated or not?
Yeah because I have 5870 CF, i7 920XM and 8GB RAM and I'm getting terrible fps at low res and frequent crashes. By the way has Crytek released another patch yet? -
By default the way to know whether stealth mode is active or not is by pressing the stealth button. You can cycle thru this process and always choose "yes" for each questions for enabling and disabling.
Once the system's just entered in stealth mode, the alien head icon will appear momentarily on the tray. Pressing the button again and choose "yes" will remove the alien head icon from the tray (stealth mode deactivated).
Alternatively you might want to install stealth mode indicator program (follow the below link). Hope it helps.

AFAIK there's no patch that fix this issue yet. -
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
Game's running nicely on my R1, in Extreme mode, after the "r_MultiGPU 1" instruction was entered into the CFG file. Before that instruction, I was running it with a single GPU at 1440x900, which also looked fine.
People are free -- and possibly in the right -- to complain about this follow-up being a watered-down console port. However, I am impressed with certain very important aspects of the streamlined look of this game. For example, unlike the original Crysis, this one is able to show-case better lighting without crippling the hardware. It is a mixed-bag situation, but some of the graphical features are an improvement over the original formula and at least the game runs smoothly.
My primary gripe at the moment is with some of the bugs, which I hope that Crytek will address in the coming weeks. -
Just an update...
I tried installing the latest 11.3 CCC from ATI and the 11.3 CAP and it seems to have reduced the flickering a good amount on my system. You can still notice it when looking at some bright lights, but overall it has improved.
From what I have been reading on AMD forums, the next CAP release should be fixing the flickering completely in CrossfireX. But I am not holding my breath.
Once I actually see it, then I will believe it. LOL. -
I ditched Radeon Pro with the Bioshock profile enabled in order to play with just one card and see how it looked. On High settings/max res with 1 5870 I get consistent FPS between 30 and 45.
My problem with this game is that occasionally the alternate fire or melee attack will not work. Pretty frustrating when you sneek up on an alien and instead of knifing him for a quick kill, you tap him on the back of the head with your gun announcing "Kill Me...I'm Here, Kill Me!" Does anyone else have this problem? -
Yes I have that issue too.....I reassigned Melee to my mouse button to see if it helped, but no go.
-
Is this because it is a console port? I haven't heard anyone else talking about this issue so I thought I was the only one.
-
everyone has that problem on pc some need to restart there pc and some need to restart the game
-
The game ISN'T a console port. It was coded from scratch for each platform apparently.
-
-
I think it's more that you set the alien off to an elevated alert level- AFAIK stealth kills work only if the threat indicator is white. That's why I typically switch to the covert ops stealth upgrade while I'm up close and personal with enemies.
-
I got this game, and looks great, but i have a little question, is the "Hardcore" options in graphics the very top of graphics?, cause i turn it to Advanced and i'm not able to set nothing.

switching off catalyst AI means switching off CrossFIre.
-
-
once u get crossfire disabled, flickering will be gone. but that means u only use 1 gpu to power your games. so it's up to u.
try installing CAP and new driver from catalyst 11.3 thread then rename crysis2.exe to fear.exe and run the game. now CF is enabled and no flickering -
-
Here: http://www.rage3d.com/upload/appprofile/AMD_Catalyst_11.3_CAP1.exe
In the future, always look to rage3d for your CAP updates- They get posted there sooner than game.amd.com -

always check this thread for updates and new CAP -

So how is the performance with m17x?
-
im getting minimum 26fps to a max of over 60fps on extreme graphics settings with R2. stable and no flickering. you need to follow steps detailed in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/565839-nbr-exclusive-amd-catalyst-11-3-cap.html -
I'm the first person to jump on people for throwing out the console port excuse, but in this case, it is accurate. Read up on it and you'll see. -
It has the feel of a console game. The first thing you notice when you install it "Adjust the brightness on your Television". Also its only directx 9. I think once they sort out some updates/patches it will be a very good game.
-
I will probably play through it again if they can get these issues fixed. Not sure about the MP though....sounds like sniper city. -
blasterbeam210 Thanks, dude, i play this on Hardcore and looks kinda smooth, but, is better in advanced because i have just a card, anyhow, i dont lose quailty on the graphics.
Do you play this with Vsync on or not? -
I'm loving it. few hours in now.
Managed to get yer man stuck in a pod crater last night. very annoying. had to quit and go back in -
When do you get min 26fps?
-
Interesting well my config I'm getting 43fps according to fraps on very high and in 1920x1080 while extreme seems to get me 23-30fps ...
The weird thing is extreme looks worse than very high which bugs the heck out of me . all thatpost processing makes it look like im running 1280x720 -
44mb patch released via Steam at 9:46PM UK time.
-
-
Bwwah not even 11.3 with CAP1 has fixed the flicker, the patch did barely anything for me personally </3
