How would you recommend installing the AMD drivers?
Some on the forum here say just installing them over your current one is ok and causes no issues?
What would you guys recommend?

every time I install the new driver, I do it through clean install, first delete drivers in the device manager, then reboot in safe mode, performing driver sweeper, ccleaner, then I reboot in normal mode and install the new driver.
nayilalien, did you monitor temps while gaming? How hot is your card?in case you have CAP installed, delete it. -
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I have CAP 4, dual 5870's (Non OC. w/ latest drive) 6 gigs of ram and a i7 740. I CANNOT PLAY THIS GAME, lol. AT a 1920 1200 resolution with everything down I still can't play optimally I'll have to reduce to 1440 something. Any suggestions? I made my pagefile 15 gigs, lower all sound files, turned off windows AERO. I'm trying to everything and anything, haha... BUt I can say that it runs smooth at a console resolution

darkloki, have you checked GPU utilization? it can utilize one card for some reason, after alt+tab out/in it utilizes both
-
I've been doing that but the micro stutters still occur, particularly on the map Caspian Border. The worst thing that happens to me is the stuttering while trying to make a knife kill I've been cutting out the throats of alot of people as I already have 30 of them, but I could have at least 15-20 more if not for lag

does it happen in single player?

Ever since the Beta, I see that a few people get this kind of issue where the ground is "see-through". Anyone know how to fix this? It happens in the campaign as well as the multiplayer. Here's what I meant: Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting My video card is a 460m and it runs the game perfectly smooth.
-
-
I think this is an in-game bug, not a gfx card issue. I've seen it on reviews like here:
? Battlefield 3 - BF3 Beta Gameplay - Caspian Border, ft. SideStrafe! - WAY? - YouTube
I think you'll have to wait for a game patch. -
Doctor Magneto Notebook Consultant
forgot to say: if you experience this stutter only in multiplayer, then most probably it is network lag -
Edit: CAPS isn't there
Max GPU load is 81%...shouldn't it be 100% when the game is on? -
Which system should I play BF3 on? Base don the systems in my sigs? Thanks. Obviously the desktop but what about which laptop?
-
Doctor Magneto Notebook Consultant
I don't know, R2 or R3.. you should know better which has more GPU power, as you have both -
I'm not 100% sure if I clean installed the Driver ... -
Doctor Magneto Notebook Consultant
And to be sure, I woul clean the driver and reinstall -
I might have fixed my laptop, I'm not sure why it happened or what it did but it works and it helped. Basically I went into device manger off of control pannel and updated my video drivers and it downloaded and installed something and it is working better now. I didn't do windows update I did update driver off the 5870 display driver.

Any consensus on the best settings for a 580m?
So far I've been using all high except ultra textures, 4x AA. This gets 40-49fps. I tried all ultra, but that resulted in 28fps, which isn't too safe I'd say, of you want to kill your enemies. -
Update till the newest drivers from Nvidia (With the BF3 optimization), if you allready have those, or if the problem still occour, its a texture bug. Nothing you can do, wait for a patch.
- Scott. -
Regarding the FPS, the worse that I got is about 30 or upper 20s, but that only happen during heavy explosion on really large map with many players.
Overall it is playable at all ultra, aa deferred off, averaging 35 to upper 40s FPS.
BTW, what is the name of NBR platoon?
Can't seem to find it. -

Ive put about 60 min in bf3 already and have yet to finish a game whether from getting d/c'd or it keeps freezing, what can i do about this freezing? im running at about 70deg C while im playing, is it getting too hot? should i get a cooling pad maybe? -
Its probably the game, not your cards. 70 degrees is not dangerous at all.
A check-question?;
- Have you updated to the latest Nvidia drivers that have the Battlefield 3 Optimization?
If you haven't done that, do it. It COULD solve a bit of the issue, but the game itself is really buggy and a lot of people is reporting disconnection from the servers. They're currently working on optimizing it, the battlelog is kind of "overloaded". (Wrote somewhere that they had about 3 million people TRYING to connect at the same time, on the release day.)
- Scott. -
yea ive updated all my drivers thats what i was thinking being overpopulated but i have friends that are not freezing and i have better specs than them
-
Yeah.. Well, when you crash, open up Battlelog, and see if the gamelauncher tab (on the bottom bar) sais "You were disconnected from the server". If thats so, then it is because of a bug.
The last thing i would advice you to do then, is to update Punkbuster.
- Download this File (PBsetup.Exe, its the updater client for Punkbuster software, which is used to manage players / protect servers from cheaters in BF3.)
- Launch the app, it will install and check for updates. Let it update!
- Add Battlefield 3 to the list by using the interface.
- Press "Check for update". Let it update!
- It will probably make it a bit better. (At least did for me!)
Other factors that could strike in is location, internet connection, etc.
I'm pretty shure its not your computer
- Scott. -
ok, you can try the official forum for bugs....

Then I come back after restart and then the installation goes fine, but games micro-stutter even at high fps (40-50 fps). -
Well, these cards don't accept the drivers from nvidia and only dell and they didn't update.
-
Is it just me-- or is killing someone with the equipped knife extremely satisfying for some reason?

Your system is diferent and behaves a bit different, but maybe this approach could help to install the driver properly. Try that again, if you have patience
-
If you can't find it, find the "full-specced" driver, well, the driver for the non-mobillity version of your card, and extract it to a folder on your PC.
Then, go to;
NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com
There, you can download a INF (? not shure about the extension) file, that you replace in the directory where you extracted the Nvidia driver. This will allow the driver to install on your card.
EDIT : Here is the mobile version of the driver for you;
http://uk.download.nvidia.com/Windo...ok-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe
Should install fine on the 460m.
EDITFINISH.
Good luck,

Whats the best AMD 6990m driver for playing this on max settings?
and is the any recommended guide how to reinstall the graphic driver?
thanks! -
-
Do you install that?
-
Why does the game crash in multiplayer? When I first loaded it I could play for 2-3 hours and then it wouldn't play again. Same message every time "battlefield has stopped working". I repaired and later reloaded the game, updated to A08, and 285.62. Played for 3 hours yesterday and today same issues again... Anyone else having issues with multiplayer? Campaign works just fine.
What about "battlefield has stopped working errors" just before game lauch after connecting to servers? It works after a fresh install for 2-3 hours then *bang* no more battlefield.... -

Do i need to uninstall 11.10 from device manager first, install 11.9 then at last over the 11.9 cap4? -
TotalHarmonicControl Notebook Enthusiast
i cant be bothered scouring this entire thread for my system......in my sig...will it run? what sort of detail levels / resolutions will i need to run it at? thanks!
-
Later
Seriously though.... Download Fraps, run it, set everything to medium, then play and add or subtract details until you get around 40-50fps average. -
ok so I'm kinda worried now I don't know what my PC did but I believe it reverted on it's own in terms of divers. What I mean is when I went into Device Manager and told it to find a driver it found one and installed it. I say older driver because I noticed my Crossfire Symbol while in game use to be silver and just Crossfire, now it says ATI Crossfire
. With that being it runs smoother so yeah I'm happier, but I have a flierking problem now, lol. But the previous drivers were so bad that I'll take smooth and flickering over micro-stutter... I just can't win... When I check my Catalyst under the software section it says 11.9 and I installed CAP 4. But like I said it says ATI crossfire and ATI is no longer a company so I definitely went backwards right?
-
Hmm, it says its not compatible.
Edit: Nevermind I found separate download links for the INF files -

The Campaign I play at native resolution, everything ultra except shadows I turned to low, AA off, and SSAO instead of HBAO (could call them wrong), that gives me 60FPS almost all the time in SP -
