So what's the cheapest way of getting a copy?

I have my R3 coming in about 12 hours. Will any retail or online purchase work OK with Origin etc? Any pros/cons to physical v digital copies (apart from the obvious that apply to all games)?

May I ask what you did exactly to fix your problem?

I haven't had much time latelly to test the game, but as far as I tried, i could only play like one minute before it start to lag like hell. Stutter? I don't what it is but it like this => I start MP, beginning is ok (around 30 fps), then when I hear the next level of Fan speed, the game is repeatly freezing for like 1~2 sec (thus unplayable at all).

I did a cleant install of CAT 11.10 (with CAP4 from 11.9, but the issue remained exactly the same).
Plus when I try to change display settings ingame, it just freeze and crash (which is the point when i close my m17x-R2, angry...). I unfortunately have no time to debug this, too bad.
Altho I read a lot of post in the thread, I may have missed one giving a olutin, sorry if that is the case ;)

    And thanks anyway :D

It's funny leaving the sniping scene and only to come back when I get pisse off by enemy snipers. Generally I only get killed by campy often nooby snipers and I haven't played sniper for like over 7 days which was highly unusual for me. Been busy working out my engineer class as my Kills per mins ALOT higher but my KD ratio doesn't seem to go as high. The noobies love to snipe so if I go snipe along with the Noobies it doesn't really amount to anything. But got pissed off with the oppositoin today and put in 12 more headshots in a single round scoring a 545 meter headshot ;)

have question regarding how battlefield 3 plays with my current setup dual 5870's 8g of ram and 940xm cpu.

I am just wondering what are the best settings you can play battlefield 3 on with no lag or drop in framerate for people who have the same system as mine or at least same cards?

I don't know some people are perfectionist meaning they want As much eye candy as possible, while I just wanna play well and good. Thus I play on the 1600 resolution with high settings. I think the game looks better and suits my needs better at 1600. I don't think I can snipe as well as I do at 1900 of my 300 kills with my SV 98 over half of them are headshots ;)

I have been lurking through the internet lately and stumbled upon some articles about BF3 and medium vs high settings, I watched a comparison video and really there is no difference maybe ambient occlusion and extra tidbits. So I switched to medium settings today tried it out, I'm no eye doctor but I really cant tell the difference can you? I also read that the recommended graphics requirements are really for medium settings if your curious try a couple of rounds on medium, you tell me if its different?

even on low settings the game still looks great, the main thing i dislike about the game is the insane amount of glow. I mean how the f is that realistic that u need sunglasses just to see the bloody ground lol.

Snipers are lame yet again, bfbc2 they where worse tho. I can dig a decent sniper but not a large group of newbs just sittin in a bush the entire map just waitin for moving stuff and all just shoot the crap out of it.

The thing about the glare is that when soldiers are in a tactical environment, they wear ballistic eye protection, be it goggles, or glasses, but it's pretty much mandatory in real life for troops. I think thats where the glare comes in.

Doc, let see if you can help me with this....

i've purchased the game as you from Origin. I've installed the Origin download manager, the version i have is 8.3.3.35, but it seems it has a problem, the download last no more than few minutes and then the downloader goes off-line. My internet connection remains working 100%, it is not related to the network. I've read on the net that the last version of the downloader should be 8.3.3.40, but i'm unable to find it.

I'm waiting to see if i can find a solution, but meanwhile i've already find a copy on amazon, that i'm ready to purchase... just i don't want to waste the money twice if there is a solution to my problem. Any help on this is greatly apreciated.. (i want to play it baaaaaadly :D )

Cap, just checked the version of my Origin manager, and it shows as 8.3.1.9 - 108188. It was installed automatically, I even didn't know thhere were other versions, thought this thing updates itself automatically as well. If I go to release notes in "about" window, it says 8.3.3 is required for playing, so I assume version 8.3.1.9 - 108188 is 8.3.3 (?) and the latest

    Have you tried reinstalling Origin?

    Hi everybody,
I am having an issue with my Alienware M17x R2 and Battlefield 3 and I don´t know how to resolve it. So before buying BF3, I had the original graphics driver installed on my system (never did anything on that). However, Origin or BF3 told me that I should update my driver and i downloaded the new catalyst driver (Version 2011.1012.1625.27603) and when I installed it I got a bluescreen. I could only reboot and remove the driver in safe mode. I installed it again and now, when changing something in the settings I get another bluescreen. I don´t know whats wrong. Which driver should I get for my system and how do I uninstall the old one cleanly?
    Thanks so much guys!!!

I think you should update the VBIOS. Have you done that?
It enables you to update to latest AMD driver. :)

Anyone able to get the new 285.79 Beta drivers working on there 580m system? Oddly enough I can install the official 285.62 no problem but can't get the beta ones to install.

They fix a bunch of stuff for BF3 so it be nice getting them running.

Trying flashing the bios to the modded bios on these forums and over-clocking to the 5% somehow that helped me out immensely but I think it's because it cuts back on the throttling. Worked for me.

What settings are everyone using in BF3 with the R2 with 5870s in CF? I am feeling the hurt of using a laptop when playing BF3 I think... Starting to think it is time to build of a new gaming desktop...

well the alienware laptops are more mobile desktops with the fact they have balls and u can put in new gfx cards n stuff but its rather pricey.

BF3 is stunning, even on lowest settings although medium and low settings dont realy seem that much of a difference. The insane amount of glow in the game just leaves u blind half the time esp with half the enemy team using flashlights :p

Seen peeps with 6970 and 6990 in their r2 although i hvnt got the slightest idea what sorta price tag is on those, so either pimp your r2 or get a new desktop but the desktop will prolly be the cheaper option :(

atleast if your a cod player aslong there arnt new consoles u dont have to upgrade your pc either ;p

    Hey,

I did that already a while ago (actually when the modded bios was out), but thanks :)

I'm not sure I fully understand what throttling means... part of the fact that throttle has 2 opposite translations
Are we talking about good throttle (speed up) or bad one (like suffocate if that exists, pardon my French :p )?

By the way, I also wonder what settings people are using in BF3 with the R2 and 5870 CF.
Would Trixx provide some help, any info on a stable overlock for 5870 CF?

For my R2 setup, I set all high in MP with all AA settings turned off and HBAO on.
While in SP, I set all ultra with anti-aliasing deferred off and anti-aliasing post high, HBAO on.

DarthRyo, I use Trixx to overclock 5870CF to 800/1100, and no heating problem at all.
With my MP settings, I got over 40fps all the time, with my SP settings, it will get a bit lower, I think about lower 30s for minimum FPS.

And yeah, they are all at 1920x1200 resolution. :)

Does anyone get occasional green or red or orange flashes on there screen? It's like a real quick screen flash, like the whole screen will flick green for a tenth of a sec. I'm currently running 11.10 drivers, CAP 4. Trying to figure out if it's driver related or not. GPUs never get too hot. This is mostly on BF3 Multiplayer.

everytime I see those green flashes I send a message to ALL. Feels good when I find out i'm not the only one.

Even fps spikes are issues. It's mostly server related.

Currently running 11.11 drivers. I think i've gained a few FPS.

I see the same flashes on my GTX 580m. I'm betting its a game issue itself. There so much going on in terms of lighting I wouldn't be surprised if there is a bug someplace.

WoW I'm kinda shocked apparently my system is bogged down when I play this game based on AirFlow/Overheating. Meaning during intensive explosions it'll slow down but if I prop it against a fan it performs fine. Does this mean I need to open up my system and clean it out and apply a new batch of Thermal Compound?

Mine doesn't overheat at all when it's either on a laptop cooler or desk (basically any hard surface).

I assume you're not using it on a bed/lap/other soft surface?

Try propping the back up with a book and see if that helps as it will allow more air to the vents underneath.

Mine doesn't overheat either but I also use a custom made laptop cooler, just to be safe (as my warranty has already ended).

BTW, finally sorted my issues, I could play MP for 1 hour without any problems, feels good at last :D

my temp dont go over 60-62 on my 6990 CF in r2 with BF3 at max settings (deff. AA OFF but i have post on high)and CCC with max quality text.filtering+VSYNC. No matter how long i play they stay within 60-62 degrees.
1.i removed the metal screens that just catch dust from my laptop (the ones where fans lay ontop off and blow air out)
2.repasted cards with AS5 and made sure heatsink was nice and snug to card.
    3. did the tape Mod to both cards
i had a laptop cooler but i use it for my power block since my laptop keeps the 240w adapter at its limit most of the time. It used to shut off laptop when it overheated. Now i just keep my laptop on a metal surface stand with vents.
