Damn, it's been a long time comin...Sorry folks, been really busy and I always forget :)

Here's photos of the Brenthaven that I keep ranting on and on and on about. It retails for like $100, I think.

    Cheggit: https://picasaweb.google.com/107667...authkey=Gv1sRgCPWO4cnp7ZW4jAE&feat=directlink

The bag in my post. It's got way more protection than any other bag I've ever seen.

IIRC, when I emailed Slappa Dom, he said that they only have 1/2" padding at the bottom. I believe that my Brenthaven has 3/4 - 1" padding ALL AROUND. And the padding on the back (for your back) is like 1 - 1.5" thick. Lifetime warranty also, so if something goes wrong, email 'em and they'll send you a new one or fix it for ya.

Lifetime warranty for any Brenthaven products.

It'll fit the R3, but it looks thin/looseygoosey inside the slot. Also, Everki padding isn't as thick as the Brenthaven. You can go to Frys and they sell the Beacon there.

EDIT: Seriously, the padding at the base for most brands is next to nothing. The only one I'm not certain is thick/durable is the Slappa. But 1/2" is very thin, so not much protection there. Just get a Brenthaven and you'll never look back. The only thing is, there was a user here whose bag was a bit snug for his R3 and he had to return it. Mine fits perfectly.

    Hello fellow notebook enthusiasts,
I am looking for a laptop bag/case/rolling case/backpack/ that can/will fit the following:

The m17x R3 with its power supply.

    A full sized keyboard.

    Gaming mouse with mat.

    A cooling pad.

    And Textbooks.

(The textbooks and keyboard will most likely be switched often on different days, so I can just carry them in a regular backpack and carry the laptop and accessories in a separate case if needed)

I prefer the bag to have the best protection possible, as I will be traveling a lot with this laptop. I am leaning toward a rolling case as I think all this would be, too, much for me to lift all day (I am on the weaker spectrum of strength after all), but am not sure which offer good laptop protection. If this is not an option than I would just buy a laptop bag for the laptop itself and accessories, and keep my backpack for textbooks.

    Thank you~

    Hi Folks,

Just picked myself up an M17x R3 from the Outlet and have gone through this entire thread trying to find a backpack that's available in the UK at a reasonable price.

While there are a good few mentioned that I like the look of most are either not available in the UK or are too expensive.

However I did find this - Targus XL Laptop Backpack:
    M17x R3 Backpack - Targus XL
Seems like a good compromise. Not padded enough for Dookie I'd guess, but fine for my use. A snap at £42.39 from ebuyer.

My previous Targus has lasted me for over five years so I know that Targus make good stuff.

    EXCELLENT!

    MONDO!

Brenthaven would prolly have int'l shippping, since they mainly cater to apple users, and that means generally worldwide customers.

If non-rolling, either the Orion 18" or 17" would be fine for you, or even the Everki Beacon. Tons of space for everything. The only thing that might be a problem is the keyboard. But, you could leave a small gap at the top I guess for it to stick out.

^^^LOL this made me laugh. For a slightly cheaper backpack, I think either of these would work for the R3: Ricardo Beverly Hills Essentials Laptop Backpack - eBags.com, Sumdex Impulse Full Speed Flame Backpack - eBags.com, or Amazon.com: Targus A7 Commuter Backpack Designed to Protect 17 Inch Laptops TSB200US (Black): Electronics. The Sumdex one looks really good in real life, and I saw it on a big nerdy looking dude on campus. Looks big enough for the R3.

Just took delivery of the Swissgear bag. VERY well made, only issue is limited padding on the bottom, so going to put some neoprene/bubblewrap there as a precaution, also an R3 is a little bit of a squeeze (but it does fit), the apt term would be "snug".

Its double stitched shoulder strap and its connected inside the bag, so its really strong and dosent look like it will break anytime soon. Carrying handle is also strengthened and put LOADS of books in it yesterday (about the weight of 4 R3s) and it didnt even stress it.

Not bad for £40 at all.

    LMAO

After reading EVERY post in this thread and a fair few other threads/sites I think I'm going with the Astro Scout.

Just need to find somewhere that has it in stock and hope I don't get one that the R3 won't fit into like one guy did about 49213 pages back..

EDIT - And of course, after taking hours to research this, the bag I have finally chosen is out of stock on the manufacturer's site and nowhere to be found elsewhere. If anyone knows where I could pick one up (I'm in the USA until January), please tell!

I also read every post in this thread, and narrowed it down to the Everki backpack and the Brenthaven backpack

Since I live in Austin, TX, I went ahead and examined both in person--the Everki at Fry's, and the Brenthaven at the local Mac reseller.

My use case is that I will take the laptop to work in the backpack, take it out, and then put it back at the end of the day--I don't move the laptop around during the day. Therefore, I didn't really need a sleeve to protect it from moves around the office.

The Brenthaven certainly has more padding, but the Everki has the nice soft inner lining which would enable me to protect the exterior without having to use a sleeve, and so that's what I went with.

Hey any idea where to get the Everki Beacon in UK for a reasonable price?
They are selling 11x pounds in amazon which I think is overpriced(or at least out of my budgets) or I prob will just get the swissgear/brenthaven one? Thank you!

After spending hours trawling through this thread, I'm pretty keen on grabbing an Astro backpack.

Just need to clarify whether it will fit my M17xR2 properly. Anyone using it with their R2?
Thanks in advance, I just want to make sure it does before I take the plunge.

Works great for me. As I said, it's a tight fit but I think that's a good thing.

It seems to have loosened up ever so slightly with use and is about perfect now.

astro scout, best backpack ever... I really liked the bag, it is very nice cool looking piece of item, also it is slim and small considering it is taking a 17" laptop! ridiculously well build quality, laptop case is so soft, I want to sleep in it!! If people wants, I can post some pictures, well, I will post some pictures tomorrow :)

That's be great if you posted some photos graz. It is such a nice looking bag and I was really disappointed when I found out my R2 wouldn't fit. :(

Anyway, I ordered the Everki Beacon which also looks like a very nice bag. How do you find it bigtony? I've only seen pics of it when it's full to the brim with stuff but I'd like to see how slim it actually looks with only the M17x and bare essenials in there.

If you actually plan on carrying books inside the bag as well, then the Brenthaven will only fit maybe one 2inch thick textbook along with a notebook or two, the A/C adapter and the R3. In terms of weight or "crampedness", it's not an issue. The real issue is the space limitation of the middle pocket for your book(s). If you really wanna lug around alot of books, the Orion fits alot of stuff, but has like zero space. (I also have the Orion). It fits the R3+PS3+all plugs for R3 and PS3+3 controllers+external HDD and plugs/cables+game cases. Yes, it fits alot. But it's a big backpack with zero padding. I think the Everki Beacon would fit everything you want too, similar to the Orion, and would have a bit more padding. Check it out at your local Frys.

Mainly how much room to move your R3 has in the laptop compartment. I know my R2 will be a bit different but it is a good basis to go off. Also, how slim the backpack looks with only the R3 and charger in it. Only if it isn't any trouble.

FYI folks, the slimmest profile backpack I've seen so far is my Brenthaven. If that's the feature you're looking for, then try the BP-XF backpack.
