I really liked the bag today, it is really ergonomical, felt like I wasn't carrying anything!
-
I'm in search of a sleeve/weeler/backpack as well. Personally, I'm looking into 18" ones due to the size of R3's outer shell. It appears not many cheaper ones...
Padding is never a problem for me. I customize padding with towel/cloth/book/lunch box etc. Yeah, lunch box sometime. My job is rather stationary as it mainly require me generating code throughout the day... sigh... So only mobile scenario would be catching a plane so custom friendly is highly important.
Well, I really do prefer a sleeve though. So any suggestions? Bags you guys have a bit too pricy for me. after spending 3K (including tax) on my R3, my wife's gonna kill me if I'm getting a bag/sleeve that's over 70...
EDIT:
I'm born a geek. Geeky is never a problem for me... Plus I'm... tall... and fat... so size is never an issue as well. Thanks ahead guys. -
Any good laptop bags that I get in the UK, from let's say, Amazon?
I don't want to look like a dumb a$$ with one...
Something stylish, any ideas? -

However the next best I have found is the Everki

I think I might have just found my next bag for later this year...... the everki Titan. I think it would supplement my smaller Everki Beacon rather nicely

Hey, do any of you think that the Astro Scout backpack can fit my Alienware and a Canon DSLR?( together with all the accesories and stuff)?

Sorry to bump this thread, I just thought it better to bump here rather than make a new post and have a ton of people foam at the mouths while linking me here. I've read most (30+ pages on and off for the past few days) and have not come to a proper conclusion. I'm looking for a solid backpack that will hold it, charger, small wireless mouse, and a bit of extra storage for a few little things, like a shirt or two, camera body and lens, etc.
The main problem I'm having, is I prefer slimmer backpacks that have much more depth to them rather than me having a nice turtle shell on my back, which makes it more prone to bumping at times when not careful.
I'm 6'1, about 155 pounds, so yes, I could go for something large like the MASK, but I feel that purchasing that would be simply overkill. I have a proper travel backpack when I need it, but unfortunately does not hold my laptop fully. The end sticks out of the side, and cannot be zipped up (And with it being a hiking bag, its not well protected, although I'm very careful with it anyways)
Thanks for any and all help on this. The only backpack that seems to fit the description would be the Targus Voyager, but I have not seen, nor can I find any pictures / M17x specific reviews on it.
Have a good day / night -
For your needs, you should go with the Orion 17" backpack. It fits everything you need and possibly even more. It's not specifically made to carry a camera, but all that stuff will fit in nicely. There's tons of space in this backpack, and doesnt make you look too TMNT like, nor too geeky. If you just want a slim profile backpack that has maximum padding, I still stand by the Brenthaven Prostyle BP-XF.
FYI, I own both backpacks, and use the Brenthaven regularly. The Orion now holds my PS3 and all of its accessories. HOpe this helps!
EDIT: There's pics of the Brenthaven in my sig -
I am a new owner of an m17x r3 so i guess you won't mind me bumping this thread
I've been looking for a decent backpack for my laptop lately and i thought i'd ask you guys. I don't want to put lots of things in the backpack, just the laptop, powerbrick, a mouse and maybe a headset. I like the Targus Campus backpack xl, you can see it here: Targus Campus Laptop Backpack XL . I'm not sure though it will fit the r3 and also i'm open for suggestions -
I just received my Astro Scout backpack and it is a really snug fit on my m17x r3. I believe that you can fit all the items above because mine could fit the laptop, powerbrick, mouse, logitech game controller and a camera but fitting these stuff will make the bag really fat. And its build quality is really good!

thank you people for your taking the time to reply
The problem is that we don't have Astro products in Greece. I have to admit that the scout backpack look nice though -
LoL, just got an update email, so decided to check this thread lol.
Just wondering, how many ppl here actually own a Brenthaven? (I never get tired of recommending this brand, but haven't actually seen anyone post about it lolz, nor walk around campus with one). -
I so wanted a brenthaven pro style slim backpack, but it was 1cm thinner

Is there any way to get a consolidation of all the various bags in here? Perhaps a guide? I'm in the market but I don't want to sift through 21 pages.
Who can give me the short & sweet version? -
So this discussion has pretty much become a go to point for a lot of people who are looking for quality bags for their M17x. I know I read all of the pages in here over the course of a couple days, and explored all of the listed options. In my search, however, I was looking for a messenger or shoulder bag. I carry my laptop to and from a professional setting, so a back pack wasn't really much of an option for me. That was actually what I was trying to get away from. Protection was a big issue for me as well, though not by as far a margin as for dookie. I will be carrying this laptop out to oil platforms with me though, and the people that handle our bags onto the helicopters are not always the most gentle. To top it all off though, I spend a lot of time offshore, so I need to be able to bring everything I need to game, work, and entertain myself while I am out there.
All of these things affected my decision on a bag, and I was able to settle on one that I'm really excited about. It took a little extra to make it right, but the end result worked so well that I thought it would help everyone out for me to share the results. I ended up with the Kiken 18" Shoulder Bag and the PTAC Matrix 18" Laptop Sleeve, both made by Slappa. Originally I was told that the extra sleeve wouldn't be able to fit into the dedicated laptop sleeve, but when I received the items, the first thing I did was try to stick it in there. Fortunatly, it worked! I should note that I put the sleeve into the bag without the laptop in it first. After that point, I was easily able to slide in and remove my M17x without having to take the extra sleeve out. This combination leaves me with unbelievable protection, in a stylish, but not entirely unprofessional bag, that has amazing quality workmanship. Although there is a lot of velcro, so it can be noisy, the velcro is incredibly strong and the hardware is all metal.
Here is a link to a great review for it: Slappa Kiken Video Review
The customer service was amazing of course. I actually e-mailed them to ask some questions and got replied by Dominick 20 minutes later at 11:30 at night lol. Also, because I know how much you have to see it to believe it. I'm going to include some pictures of the laptop in the bag. All and all, this was a perfect selection for me, and I hope some of you can find this post helpful.
There are a couple more pictures in my album if anyone is interested. There is a slight bit of resistance when zipping up the compartment with the sleeve in it for the first few times, but as you can see from the last image, it doesn't even come close to corners of the M17x. Have a good one all, and let me know if you have any questions. -
It's the exact same as the Astro but has a MLG logo on it... I would get the Astro but it hasn't been available for months :/
But worried I might get robbed though. 'MLG' is so obvious lol -
just hang on tight
good choice geo, you will indeed love it, best bag ever had...

Hmm, i have always preferred messenger bags for laptops. But part of me feels that in a way you are just asking to have it stolen as its quite obvious what you are carrying around compared to a backpack.
Anyone else feel the same? Think i will have to order a backpack :| -

Hey on Everki's website, I saw the Titan and it looks awesome, but I can't seem to find it anywhere...

I am using this one and it works really good, the quality is extremely high

Got the Everki Beacon during Christmas. Received around New Year. Been using it for a little more than a month now. Just want to post some review an throughts.
First of all, this bag is "compacted". I mean, I put my R3 with the sleeve comes with the system, my power brick, power cable, 3 micro USB cables 6" each, G700, G700 power cable, logitech m750 track ball, wired 360 Controller, Master Chief bubble head, plasma cutter from Dead Space 2 limited edition, my old 350 Elite, it's power brick, HDMI cable, Recon3D sound card which is bigger than my HTC HD7 and three times thick, 2 games and the 3D glass all in the bag just to see how "exploded" it could be. With some careful organization, it's not thicker than a normal 20 inch on board lugage. I'd say that's pretty impresive considering the original 360 is half the thickness for the whole bag.
The laptop compartment comes with mcrofiber or feather felt surface with padding under. It has padding all around it and it is tight enough so your laptop will not budge. Unexpecitdly, taking the R3 out is very easy considering the design of the compartment. You can literarily "slide" it out of the compartment. With the sleeve on, there's more resistance, hence more force required to take it out. Rubberized plastic surface from the laptop has "no" resistence at all. Same as slide in. The only difference is that you might want to "hover" your beacon and allow the laptop to "sink" to the bottom. The surface got clean from dust and static during the process of taking out of the bag as well which is nice.
The orange may give an impression of somewhat not so good quality. It is not the case though. Especially the console holder. the extra sleeve I used to hold the 360. It got padding too!!! only thinner.
most pockets also have the same surface as the laptop compartment which is good for gadgets.
Two regrets though. First, you'll have to arrange yourself. And there are "pockets" created from stick pads and original holdings are the same as file holders which you see around doctor's office. This means chaos if you are just stuffing the bag with your gadgets. Another is that it is not big enough for both 360 and the Kinect bar. Anyone have Kinect knows it's supprisingly bigger than we throught or saw from ads. Stuffing a 360 with Kinect bar in the bag will deny you from a lot other minor things you can throw in.
Over all, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. I got it from NCIX with a bundle of Everki keyboard guard, which could also be used as screen/surface cleaner, and the chill pill (I think that's the name) which is essentially a pair of small tough rubber feet to higher the back of R3. That bundle was half the price of the bag selling alone...
Any way, just trying to help out anyone looking for one. -
Can somebody recommend something similar to the Everki titan that doesn't cost $180?

I have been using the Astro Scout Backpack,
fits the r3 almost perfectly, there is a very small amount that extends above the protective pocket ( 1/2-1" max )
the Velcro securing strip will contact the side of the laptop...
have seen 0 damage to the finish so far from it..
the build quality of the backpack is un matched so far in my experience... no corners cut... plenty of space for everything.. travels well on airplanes under the seats...
i am a big guy. 6' 6" and is feels great on my back.
Love it, love everything i own that is Astro:
A40 + wired mixamp + 5.8 wireless mixamp, scout back pack
( wish the shipping wasn't so $$$)
ASTRO Scout Backpack - Gear Bags -
Almost everything you said in hear was exactly what my criteria was. A bag that was more like a messenger bag and not a backpack. That could store everything I carry with my comfortably.
I tend to travel for work a lot and I would use this bag for two things. One to store the laptop, and second to have the ability to holds some overnight clothes, toiletries, etc. While a backpack could do that, I would be wearing a suit at the same time. So this would fit.
So thanks for posting this with the pictures. I don't need the etc. sleeve, but everything is great and I'll have to pick this up. -
I'm torn, I really want a carrying bag for my upcoming 17x, but I'm going to be doing alot of travelling around Europe for the next few months.
Heart wants a carrying bag, but my brain is telling me backpack. Is it OCD to get both? haha -
Hi,
I'll be needing a new laptop since my current one is quite outdated (almost 5 years old). I'm interested in the Alienware M17X R3; though a requirement is that it fits in my Swissgear Pegasus backpack.
I found many contradictory posts, so I'm quite confused whether it now fits into the laptop compartiment of my Swissgear Pegasus backpack or not.
Here are some of the posts I found:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/624754-alienware-m17x-r3-college-2.html#post8076457; this one claims that the M17X R3 fits.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/624754-alienware-m17x-r3-college-2.html#post8076457; this one says it cannot fit an M17X R1 or R2, he presumes an R3 won't fit either, but he seems not to know this for sure.
Dell Alienware M17x R3 laptop. Computers / Laptops in Phoenix East Side. For Sale Classified Ads; this one sells an M17X R3 and gives the Pegasus for free with it. He also says that "it fits like a glove".
Amazon.es: Arkaitz's opinión de Swissgear GA-7306-06F00 Pegasus - Mochila ...; this one is in Spanish, but according to the title the Pegasus fits his M17X R3 perfectly.
Is there anyone who can confirm whether the Swissgear Pegasus will fit / fit not? I'm rather confused because of the contradictory things I found about it and being able to carry it in my Pegasus is a must for me.
Thank you very much. -
I have a pelican 1510 and the R3 fits at an unsatisfactory angle due to the inside width being 11.25". The R3 will fit the 2370, but with the inside width at 12.1" it will be tight. FYSA, I would go with something more ambiguous to the crowd, and less expensive.

UK peeps: The Astro Scout backpack is back in stock. Just ordered mine

Thank you for the praise, I hope it works out for you as well. Been lugging it around for a while now, and it's been as hardy as ever. It even got caught while going down some stairs, and the fell and got banged around a good bit. No damage to the laptop or the bag at all. I completely recommend this bag. -
Whatever you think of the bag I can't fault Astros service. Ordered an Astro Scout at lunchtime one day, it came before 10am the next. Also it's a great bag too, love the fleece lining, I want them to start making coats with that lining.
