gta iv performance dropped quite a bit with the new drivers. can't say there was much improvement in the graphics/quality. dell's 186.x betas gave 44 fps, this one 33 in the benchmark.

    anyone else with similar exp?

Hey, is there anything special I need to do before updating GPU drivers or do I just do it from the device manager and point to the file location on my computer?

Yeah ok, that is what I thought. I mainly wanted to know if I had to go through some crazy driver removal tool thing.

Does anyone else here have issues trying to run the nVidia 190 series drivers on their M17x under Windows 7?

With RC and now RTM, whenever I install any 190 set (WHQL or non-WHQL), after a reboot I get the log-screen then a few seconds it goes black and I'm left with just a mouse cursor. Switching between the 9400 and SLI 280s makes no difference, though I can tell it's changed as I can hear the fan noise change.

I've reverted to 186.34 and all is fine. To be honest I'm quite happy with them, but nVidia are touting 190 as their latest so I'm wondering what's going on.

i'm running on 190.56, seems ok but think i need something more subjective to compare rather than just FPS. .56 doesn't seem to give me awesome FPS but the graphics are better. otoh, the dell 186.x beta's were a good balance between quality and FPS. mostly comparing drivers using GTA IV.

Can one update ones GPU drivers directly from nvidia.com or do you have to go through Dell?

    you can get them anywhere

    186 < support hybrid

also you can use older ones but you have to disable the intergrated GPU

Uhh..kind of worried now. I just updated to the 186.24 drivers from the 179.xx ones and something weird happened. I had hybrid SLI enabled which might be my problem, but I'm not sure. I installed the driver software (downloaded from this site) and it worked OK I guess, but now the memory clocks on my 9400 are 2125 and they used to be 0 before..shader and core clocks haven't changed..

Should I do a system restore and disable the 9400 before installing the new drivers?

Just a little confused about the drivers at this point, I've seen multiple varieties of them so when I finally get it, I have no idea which drivers to go with.

    Could someone clear it up?

Dell's driver support hybrid SLi but i think they suck and hybrid SLI makes my games run worse :(

    So i run DOx 182.xx

or you can run Batboys 186.xx driver

    i reccomend those 2

Can someone tell me what the new Nvidia chipset (MCP79) driver actually do... The one for the Nvidia chip, not the GPU drivers...

Ive read some peoples remarks when they installed they cant notice anything difference or impovements

Im just asking, since I hate installing drivers, so is this really neccessary? Can I just forgot about this one?
    thanks

Dox does not. (you need to disable integrated and hybrid in the bios before installing the drivers.)
    dunno about Batboy.

I see on laptopvideo2go that Dox 185.85 has a hybrid fix?

Dumb question but, hybrid is the name for the interaction between the SLI'd GPUs right? There would be no reason to NOT have hybrid drivers with 2 GPUs correct?

    no that is SLI

hybrid is where you can switch between the 9400 m and your 260's/280's ...IMO its useless because you can just reboot ...

    Ahhhh ok.

Now I'm understanding things a bit more. So most people are turning off the 9400m and not bothering with hybrid? Is that why you don't support it?

well when i boot off battery it will automatically run the 9400 and when i am plugged in i just enable the 260 in BIOS and disable the 9400 m

its just easier and lets me choose any driver

K I'm about to use driversweeper. Let me just double check that this is how I should properly install my new drivers.

1.) Use the official uninstaller for the current video drivers.
2.) Reboot and load in safe mode.
3.) Run driversweeper on Display. (Not chipset or Phsyix)
4.) Reboot to normal and install Dox 182.xx

    I know Batboy had a guide but I can't find it! :(

Yeah - thats correct. Once done, prior to rebooting - I suggest running CCleaner's registry module as well.

Its up to you on running driversweeper or not. Some people here have mentioned it may not play nice due to the mGPU. Very possible. I have always used it with other systems and I am still using it with the M17x. So far no issues have been encountered. The decision is yours though...

You can always just uninstall using the NVIDIA uninstaller, reboot and then run your new driver installer. Your choice. Hope this helps.

So I uninstalled my Dox drivers, rebooted and Windows automatically did something with the 260s.

Then I tried to install Nvidia's 186.03 drivers and I get this error

What did I do wrong? Do I need to turn on integrated gfx and hybrid?

186.42 actually locked up on me a few times. I decided to dump it. It could be related to the issues I have been having - I have installed so many drivers lately trying to fix the 'wake from sleep' issue.

We'll see what you come up with Mr. Number Chaser. ;)

With 186.42 my temps have been lower also? So far I have played several different games and have had no issues, I have woke it up from sleep 9 times in 2 days and not had one blank screen.

LOL - I was just about to reply to Blade's post.

I mean seriously, am I the only one who is hung up on the fact this thing cant wake from standby properly? LOL

Well, now that I have performed a complete factory reset I'll see what happens. This better not turn out to be a hardware issue. I DO NOT feel like dealing with Dell on a tech issue right now... too tired.

I tried these on my system, Win7 currently with 186.34, and they behave the same way as any 190.x has done so far - I get the login screen followed by a black screen. Have to use RDP to then remotely remove them and I went back to the previous drivers.

I hope these aren't a sign of things to come or I'm stuck on 186.34 for as long this happens :(
