It came in the black AW box, just like the ones that you see in unboxing videos. Had the fancy handle clips and nice foam packaging. There was clearly missing room in the box where the accessory box sits.

I'm so tempted to return the item, I waited patiently enough to deliver without given them too much grief, but this is sheer incompetence.

Re-order as in having to renegotiate for a deal? then wait another month? gee the 5870's don't seem that appealing now.

I'm trying to narrow down what I need and don't need configured in the M17 X. I want it to be awesome for games so what options should I add and delete for this when building it?

I know I need the 2 graphics cards, RGB LED screen, Blu Ray etc but I'm not sure how much memory I need or what processor is sufficient? I'll be using the laptop for gaming and light word/excel for my eBay store. Does 8 gig of ram increase gaming performance or is 4 enough? Also, what processor do you guys suggest?

So I just spoke to customer service. Things Notebook Review.com needs to know about Laptop Replacements through Dell that are replacing a faulty laptop. They will NEVER update the order status on the page. It will ALWAYS say N/A for the EDD. Not once will they ever put a date as to when they expect you to get it.

You are supposed to wait, and then "surprise" the laptop ships without you know. (?!)

Also, the current delay of my M17x R2 is due to the lack of M17x R2 Motherboards. That is why my replacement has not been sent out yet. So despite the comments about keyboards causing a delay for others, I am in the US, and currently there is a motherboard shortage.

I was supposed to get contacted by Dell in 3-5 business days regarding the status of the order. Today was Day 5 and I STILL did not get an email/phonecall from anyone. So I got tired of waiting and called. Now I know what is going on with my replacement.

P.S. The rep told me I would have to wait up to another Month for my laptop to be shipped to me. (?!)

M17x R2 owners that have a fully functioning crossfire laptop, consider yourselves super lucky you do not have to go through this agonizing wait for your replacement.

If the new 5870 comes out in Aus in the next few weeks then I will change to that, and send the new one I ordered at the end of last month back but it will depend on how long it takes to get it, as I am flying to the UK at the end of June so need it before then.

Might give them a ring about it as I won't have my laptop for at least another week.

Actually I didn't get to choose anything. Any Dell machine that is delivered to the Netherlands is - as far as I know - always sent using UPS.

In my case I think either my Account Manager or the Customer Service Rep prioritized my order. I got a refund for my current 1645 approved, and I made a deal with Dell to pick it up after my new M17x was delivered. I guess they didn't want to wait so long.

My "Senior Support Resolver" called me back today while I was out running my errands. He stated that the keyboards are still on back order and in short supply. It will be at least 2 weeks before I see my M17x, he decided against cancelling my order and re-submitting it since this would put me at the back of the line. He also said that after I receive my system he is going to get me some additional concessions due to the extra time etc. If you read my previous update the supervisor I was working with did send me a PSP 3000 for my son. He is very happy with it he may be giving his game boy advance to his little sister.

There were specific concessions mentioned but I don't wanna jinx myself by mentioning them here. Lets just say I am glad I decided to keep the system instead of selling it.

So what I am hearing is that there is both a main-board and a keyboard shortage on the R2's? Well, isn't that wonderful news! They already messed up my replacement order royally, had to cancel and reorder. The guy I have been working with was supposed to be "hand-holding" it through the process, or at least his subordinate was supposed to while he was out on vacation... That didn't happen... So now, I have no ETA and my process with Dell/AW started in November with a m1730 replacement, the M17x-R1. Got a nightmare in a different skin. :(

I seriously think Alienware hates me, STILL in production .. this is total garbage man, ive seen some people with similar/same configs as mine already got them... waiting almost 2 months now rofl... might cancel if i dont get it soon..

I mean what the heck are they thinking when they ship a system that was ordered lets say in early/mid april and NOT ship a system that was ordered in early march???? (with same setup) thats just sad, sorry :p

I know how you feel! I'm pretty damn frustrated. I really hope keyboard was the only hold up for mine.. I was outrageous when my rep's supervisor just told me to cancel my order because they couldn't make mine in 30 days. It seems like that's the answer for everything. What about my damn 30 days of waiting time? :(

I can understand your frustration with waiting times. I just received mine about 3 days ago (after 7 week wait). I hope that when you guys get yours, you don't get them same problem as me with Dell completely forgetting to add the accessories box.

Right now I have this gorgeous m17x that i can't use bc the the adapter wasn't packed, plus all the CD's, warranty, etc. (how could Dell screw this up seriously?).

I'd take it to the consessions department for those of you waiting and those that were shipped incomplete packages. Let them know it's resulting in a negative impact on your work and that your really reconsidering an Asus and make it clear that your disappointed in thier service and unless they do something to make up for their errors, your not going to purchase in the future for your "company" or personal needs. Just don't get on the phone hooping and hollering or they will blow you off. Be polite but genuinely concerned. Makes it harder for them to be mean to a nice guy ;)
