    Mitchell,

Congrats on the M17. Should be a much better machine than the 1645.

Mine is slated to ship on Thursday, as my latest 1645 bit the dust.... :(

    I'm so stoked.... :)

    Thanks Dan!

It's great you got yours as a replacement. I actually had to buy mine as the CS rep simply told me there is nothing else we can do for you. I guess they won over my lack of patience.

Anyway, I'll have the M17x on monday, and I really hope it is a better machine. From what I've read it should be.

    Good luck with yours :)

I traded a K1200S in, but yes the cost difference was more like an M17X with every topshelf component including SSDs and hand delivery by Michael Dell himself.

According to UPS the machine has been delivered. I'm not at the office yet, so I cannot open the box and try the machine until late tonight... But it should be out of Dells hands and in my own :D

So I spoke with a "manager" from Dell. My order is in the "final stages" of being "shipped" (?).

Then the manager proceeded to give me a Service Tag (which to me means nothing at all) and said that I should wait another 3 days for my replacement to come in the mail.

Upon requesting to cancel or get a full refund I was told that you cannot cancel/get a refund when there is a warranty replacement order in it's "final stages".

So warning for all those new Alienware buyers: If you decide to go with a warranty replacement, make sure you know you aren't going to change your mind mid-replacement process because apparently Dell will not budge (easily anyway. You can always use BBB if you feel it is appropriate)

Also, on another note, don't bother talking to customer care reps. Speak only to a Manager from Customer Service. Apparently Customer Service doesn't have access to the same systems as the Managers. Customer Service cannot see the system's build/shipment status it seems.

Either way, I got 3 more days for a status update, then I will strong arm my way out of the "no refunds" thing easily.

I know that it would make the forum look bad, but buyers need to be aware of the ETA's for Alienware machines especially with custom configurations. Just so you have an idea of when the product will arrive.

I can see why Dell doesn't do that...because no one would wait 1 month for their original order to arrive. Especially when you can order elsewhere and get delivery in 2-3 weeks tops....or just go to the store and pick one up.

They would never sell Alienware if they advertised and mentioned anything of a 2-3 week guarantee.

    Anyways, the wait continues.

And just as I check it, all the dell.com information is now populated. It shows a delivery of tomorrow and that the product is already shipped. I do not show anything saying "refurbished" on the order history. Unless I am checking in the wrong place.

So I am crossing my fingers hoping it will be a great week/weekend this weekend and there are no crossfire/other issues with my new Alienware M17x R2 replacement. *sigh* Such a long *** wait!

    p.s. Sig updated!

Typed in the service tag of the replacement system after first logging in and it cannot find any history. Should I use the service tag of the current system I have?

From what I have seen/noticed replacements that are taking 30+ days are new systems, faster replacements have been refurbs, hopefully yours will be new as well.

Sorry for the wait... had a couple meetings.

I got my system!!! woot woot! Its a beast... Haven't ran any tests on it yet... Busy with graduation stuff...

Based on the service tag it appears to be NEW... also it would have a 'refurbished' sticker if it was used...

Does anyones hand rest squeak like crazy? The left one is very squeaky and appears to be elevated...

The box it came in was scratched up... idk if they handled it wrong or what..

There is also a scratch on the hand rest.... very minimal but you can see it from an angle....

Yes, the first M17x R2 I got had a squeaky palmrest, but only after it was completely disassembled for a motherboard replacement. Before then, I did not notice the squeakiness.

    Hi Guys,

    Update!

    Date Delivery Status
    29-Apr-2010 Order Received
    04-May-2010 Work in Progress
    05-May-2010 Manufacturing Build Complete
    05-May-2010 Ship from Factory
    06-May-2010 In Transit
    06-May-2010 Uplift
    06-May-2010 Arrived in Main Hub

    Estimate Delivery Date: 17-May-2010

10 days in transit seems alot. Maybe its just a default period. Kuala Lumpur is only 4hrs away from Shanghai by flight. Less than 1/3 the distance to USA by ship. I reckon it will arrive early.. Here's to wishful thinking! :D

Enough is enough i tell ya.. if mine doesnt ship today im gonna threaten to cancel mine, been waiting for 2 months now almost and its still in "in production" LOL!.. seems like they completely forgot about my order or something.

Gonna try and get them to upgrade the 4870's to 5870's... i think that would be fair for all this goddamn wait.
