I'm in the same situation as you Philthy84. Ordered on 21st. For those of you guys who ordered on the 20th and on boxing stage (xhero :D), did it say 5 day delay for the 5870 CF? Hoping it did and it will give me some hope! :p

Yeah it said either 5 or 6 day delay.

My Edd is the 11th so that means over 10 days in the boxing stage?

Nah it will ship out much earlier, boxing is usually 2-3 days at most. Shipping will depend on what you got. I ordered a day later but my EDD is 6/14th :( Hopefully I'll hit boxing tomorrow!

Hey Doublee, so when did you place your order on the 21st? Did it said for you to expect a delay on the Crossfire 5870 option? I can't really recall if it said that for me while building my system on the EPP site or if my sales rep. even mentioned that when I placed my order through him.

I did call back on Tuesday this past week, my rep. claimed to put a request to "expedite" my order and upgraded me to NBD shipping for free. What he explained was if theirs only 3000 Crossfire 5870's available but there are 3500 orders for it, having your order on the "expedite list" will guarantee that your order is within that 3000 number.

I ordered it around 3 PM PST. It did say 5 days delay for the CF option. CS rep did tell me the same thing as she will expedite my order. I'm still in production stage. :( I have the exact same spec like S0ysauce45 does except bigger HDD AND I ordered on 21st. Seems like S0ysauce is taking my computer! hahaha

Well the money was the same as 4870's. You're probably just having buyers remorse. Play some games, and forget about the scores :) The only reason Joker is returning his is because he already has an R2 with 4870's that he got used off the forums here for much cheaper.

I actually ordered with an i5 and dell wireless and will be putting my own 820QM and intel card in there. But I doubt it makes much of a difference what processor I used, as those are never really backordered.

2365. Refurb 4870 cf were available for quite a bit less, but all of them were R1, so I was worried about all the problems.

    Thanks Soysauce :)

With m17x I already had bunch of troubles and just got it. I think the screen res is way to big for 17" screen size - it took me a bit to setup everything and still text on Skype is super-small. If I put normal text size (100%) letters are smaller than on m11x (lol....?). At the end I removed Synaptics drivers and touchpad went from "completely unusable" to "barely usable" (and yeah I expected $2K+ laptop will have a working touchpad). Even now, moving the cursor on m17x touchpad is like riding a wild bull on a rodeo. Literally.

Played World of Warcraft a little bit, yeah the screen is really a beauty to look at, I give that. The temps were OK, it was really hot today (around 30 C in my apt) and GPU didn't go over 85 C on full load.

I remember when I got a hold of m11x, wow that was great. My initial impression was wow this is an amazing little machine. My initial impression with m17x was "uh I paid $2k for this?". Hopefully it'll get better.

    Unreal25,

I think perhaps you had exaggerated expectations for it? Compared to every other gaming notebook on the market the m17x is light years ahead.

Maybe you're right. It's just initial impressions were really bad. And I noticed you are practically selling identical system to mine with 4870 CF for $300 less than what I paid for this one.

I thought I got a faulty unit as soon as I touched the touchpad. I had to hook up the external mouse to do anything, which was kind of annoying.

Then I got stuck in Stealth mode. I thought that initially it was on because the gauge icon (stealth mode icon) was lit. Duh! But it turns out I could only enable the stealth mode (with icon not really changing) and couldn't disable it. THen I thought the command center bugged so I decided to "Repair" the installation (that didn't work either BTW, it searched for a file called "1") + the CC installation that came installed was bugged in other ways as well - I couldn't change power schemes from there. Reinstalled CC, reboot, still stuck in this damn Stealth mode. Then mFractal suggests Power Drain, that finally works.

Once I got it up and running, yeah now it started to shine.

    Hey all,
Just wondering if people have started receiving their m17x with 5870CF. I ordered mine a little late...5/19 rather than some who ordered on 5/17. My estimated shipping date is 6/16 :( I really hope it doesnt take that long. On AW it now shows there is no delay for the 5870's in CF.

Anyways, just thought I would see who ordered them, when they ordered, and how long it took for them to get their m17x 5870CF rig :p

Most of the people on this forum that ordered within days of the CF5870 coming out already have their PC and have been benchmarking and playing with them for over 48 hours now.

Sadly I ordered mine on the 21st since I didn't return my M15x earlier. The day my M15x left here is the day they released the CF5870 :(.

Even worse, I called to get the shipping changed to NBD and they said they probably couldn't do anything, blah, blah, blah, just like they told me with M15x which they DID change. Sure enough, the changed my order to NBD but only for the Studio 15 I bought for my mother-in-law and not my M17x which still says EDD June 17th :(

    Hi Joel

I ordered mine the same day as you. Customer service said it would ship in 2-3 days as of yesterday. Perhaps they will ship this Sunday or day after Memorial Day. My original EDD was June 14'th.

Still in Production. Ordered on the 18th. Although being sent to an APO, I'm not sure it gets updated on the website. Don't think my other two Alienwares were updated online.

Lucky you. They would not ship my order to an APO. Don't trust the mail delivery times out here anyway for mine to get here before I leave, especially since I was advised to leave 3 days earlier than planned.

And I have not seen any status changes either...

It is possible that we are used to being spoiled from Alienware but you cannot deny that it seems they did greatly limit the potential of the 5870 CF and it's a bit of a surprise.

Now from your game bench, it's evident that the 5870 CF have great potential when overclocked and well used.

Hopefully Dell will be able to correct this through a Bios and Driver update soon.
