Nope they don't have to walk, they have to wait for Intel to deliver new mobos with fixed chipsets before they build it.

Dell just can't get anything right, can they? I've never seen such mismanagement. I ordered my refurb Mx17r2 from the outlet store late Wednesday night. Just saw this morning that my laptop shipped today and wont get to me until Monday...even though I paid for NDD.

5 days to ship a ready-to-go via next day air is pathetic. absolutely pathetic.

Call immediately and sometimes they can have the carrier (FedEx etc..) change the shipping status en route!

Which means it hasn't even shipped yet, just hope AW/Dell don't drop the ball and not ship it until Monday like they did with my M15x. It sucked, majorly. :(

sorry to hear that, Dane. The last time I ordered from Dell it was a good experience. No issues with the order. No issues with the shipping and I even got the laptop over a week early (which I know can be normal).

This, on the other hand, has been an awful experience.

Exact opposite, my R3 came over a week early(early for even my first order's EDD) and aside from some DPA issues wasn't too bad. My M15x on the other hand was pretty bad on the ordering/shipping process.

You and me both, especially on a machine they've been making for a while now, you'd think they'd have refined the production process by now.

hmm : production degradation, my 3 dell gaming notebooks so far
-XPS M1710 -> made in Ireland
-XPS M1730 -> made in Poland
-AW M17xR2 -> made in China
it can't get worse from now on though :p (or is there something worse than 'made in China', hahaha)

I can think of a few, primarily the production I've seen in Mexico(no offense to anyone simply my opinon). I know some of the Volkswagon products are made in Mexico now(or were) and the ones that are are crap quality.

Lots of parts in American cars are made in Mexico. I saw a documentary about the maquilladoras in college. For example, the knobs and levers used for your turn signals or windshield wipers are made in Mexico. That explains the crappy quality in domestic vehicles... It certainly has nothing to do with Mexico itself, it has to do with the materials that the American companies choose to use.

Made in China can mean two things: PRC or ROC. I'd rather it be made in Taiwan than PRC.

taiwan and china are 2 different countries.

china is just being a big bully and trying to claim taiwan as their's.
    greedy little buggers.

and if im not wrong, most of your GPU chips are made in taiwan, not china.

    EDIT:
Yes I know they're diff. But often, the "MADE IN CHINA" labels can refer to either/or. Learned this from an econ class in college, and from a friend who's Taiwanese.

Also, can someone provide me with the number I can call (on weekends) to do the exchange/refund for 6870? I keep trying various numbers, but they're always closed by the time I get home from work.

    TYIA.

Best bet is either try to get a tech support rep that knows what they're doing or wait until Monday to try and get customer service reps. The only people open this late on a Friday are technical support.

My order was placed on 1/28.. and today when I called they said my order would be cancelled even they havent contacted me yet.
Actually, according to what the sales rep said, any order within the last 10 days would be cancelled. Im not sure if that is true, but right now I am in a big trouble.

"Republic of China" = Taiwan. "People's Republic of China" = Mainland. Not sure what nationals call their country though. My friends who are Taiwanese call themselves Taiwanese.

Let's not forget that this thread is about 'Order Status''. Lets not flood 2 pages with where things are made.

I'm really bumbed that they cancelled my order now I'm really pissed that it's going to be April release. What's the huge time lapse. I would have been happy if it was march.

Same news, new news, good news and bad news, folks.

Same news: Dell is very much aware of the Intel issue, according to the tech support guy I spoke to today.

Same news: Dell is going to do something about the Intel issue.

Same news: Dell has taken affected systems off their website to prohibit further orders.

Same news: Orders that have already been made are being put on hold, as Dell is awaiting new parts (he acknowledged the motherboard as "Sand Bridge" without a "Y", so I moderately trust him) from Intel to be shipped to their facilities.

Same news: Orders that have already been placed may be cancelled too (but Dell supposedly will notify you).

Same news: Dell will not charge you until the unit is ready to ship (in my case, I was already charged because aafes already placed the order to Dell).

Good news: I(we) have multiple options as R3 purchasers:
-If you've already received your system, Dell offers you several options:
    1) You can return it for a full refund, with no restocking fees even if you're past the 21/30-day return policy.
    2) Intel told Dell that they seek to solve the issue by April, so that means they will send FREE of charge, a Dell on-site technician to your house who will bring all the necessary parts to replace the motherboard etc. Warranty may be extended 3months (cuz they'll come to your house in April).

Good news: For ppl like me who have their units in the "In Production" (in my case a.k.a. "Build") phase, there's a chance that we'll still receive our units by our EDD, cuz our status should've changed to "HOLD" or something liek that if they're gonna put our order on hold.

Bad news: For folks on hold, you're gonna have to wait till April

Bad news: For folks like me, you might not be able to get your unit till April.

Bad news: For folks like me, within the next few hours or few days, our status might change from "In Production" to "HOLD."

Bad news: I have to go through aafes for refunds, etc, unless the csr @ Customer Care can do something for me on Monday.

    :( :( :(

    Agreed.

Folks, please do not cross post information. For matters concerning Dell's response to the Intel SB issue, including order status information you receive from Order Support, post it in the thread we have in place for this. This is why it was created in the first place.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...sandy-bridge-issue-what-does-mean-m17xr3.html

Also, keep in mind that these reps may not have the core facts yet. My advice, give it time. Chris's post has all the info you need to make a decision.

For further discussion on this, use the thread we have in place.

Dell screws me yet again. I order a refurb alienware m17xr2 on wednesday and it doesnt get here thursday or friday. comes into town this morning. I call fedex to see if i can come pick it up. I was told "Yes, come on down and pick it up.!!!"

I get down there and they tell me there's no way they can get to it as it's packed in a container. I told the woman that I was told i could come pick it up and she said "yeah, we hear that a lot"

Screw you! Screw Dell! Calling Monday to get my refund on the so-called "next day delivery" they offer. I doubt i'll be ordering another Dell anytime soon.

    Blame FedEx, not Dell :)

EDIT: 100% cancelled my Dell order, paid about $500 more than my original purchase price @ Ebay for someone that already had one. Money really isn't the issue it's just waiting.

    I HATE THE WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, confirmed with FedEx, 1000000% this baby will be here on Monday. I am just tired of waiting!

When I go to check my Order Status on the dell page, under my item description, one of the components is: "1 331-1350 Custom Nameplate ". Does that mean it's not gonna say what I typed into the config as my custom name?

Also, my EDD hasn't changed from 2/16.

eh... 2/14 still for me. Checking it every day twice as if i was ill or something... i desperately need the system, i receive a lot of tasks for university and they mostly require to have laptop. using roommate's when he doesn't. it will be so annoying if only they try to put it on hold. i will cancel immediately. would be more annoyed if they didnt change the status but i wouldnt receive it before edd. looking for refurb. r2s on ebay meanwhile...
does any1 know if you cancel your order which is "in production" how fast do you get your money back? they deducted $2k from my visa.

It's odd that the money is gone from your hands... I had called Dell because the money that had originally been taken for my laptop was put back into my account. I asked them why this was and if my order was cancelled. The 3 people I spoke to told me that my order wasn't cancelled, wouldn't be unless I told them that I wanted it cancelled, and would still be in production and wouldn't be shipped until the new chipsets were in. I was also told that no money would be charged from my account until my laptop was in the shipping stage. If I were you I'd call them back and look into this, Dookie.

Because he placed the order through a third party (AAFES in this case), the money was taken out of his account right away by that third party. If you make a purchase directly through Dell, you are not charged until the item ships (although they may do a temporary charge when the order is placed to verify funds).

    Back to waiting game...

    Returning my M17xR3 to wait to reorder when they become available again. Changes? black -> red, 2720QM -> 2820QM, 3D -> no 3D, 460M -> 6970 or 6870.

finally got the refurb m17xr2 i ordered late last wednesday and paid next day air for. after 3 hours of trying to fix why the laptop kept saying i didnt have the correct power adapter attached i finally realized i was shipped the 210 watt power supply instead of the 240 watt.

this nightmare keeps getting worse. i guess i have to call dell tomorrow, yell and raise hell in order to get a 240 watt power supply shipped overnight to me...and likely receive it next monday.

dell sucks. there's a reason why no reps maintain a presence on this forum. they are horrible and i'll be recommending everyone i know NOT to buy from Dell ever

Because they forgot to give you a power supply? It's a mistake, those things happen. There are much worse things that could of happened, I'm sure they will send it to you via Fedex next day. The same thing happened when i ordered a mouse and I never got it.

Um, no. This was in addition to the 17 days I waited before canceling my r3 order and the delay in shipping for a refurb order I placed that took 5 days to deliver and all the troubles with the reps on the phone when i was trying to find out about my orders, the delays and trying to find out whether my r3 would be canceled or not.

Really, the list of troubles with Dell is very long and if you had read any of my prior threads you would have learned a little more about the bad experiences I was having. But hey, thanks for paying attention.
