Were are alienwares made?? Will the recent crisis in japan affect shipping and availability?

Video Card Update: No news. Still using my old laptop for everything but games so I don't have to port everything back and forth twice.
Game Issue: Left4Dead2 apparently has an issue with the 460M driver. If the "Shader Detail" value is set higher than Medium the game crashes to desktop. Tested at 1080p resolution. Other than that, no issues with games.
Alien FX: I figured out that it is possible to shut down all the lights, as well as dim the lights just a little bit. I couldn't find these options anywhere in the Command Center, but they are available if you right-click the system tray icon. Still wishing you could set a profile for when the system state is "sleep." Desktops have this option, not sure why laptops don't. -
Since I am 2 days past the 2 month mark of when my R3 order was placed 1/12, I have had time to notice a pattern. When I check the order status by clicking "My Account" and seeing "My Oders" summary, that page updates faster than the complete Order Status page itself. So on the Order Status page it might say "Order Processing", but on the My Account page it might say "In Production". Still can't wait to see "Delivered". What can I say, 2 months plus at staring at an order screen can change a man.

Well re-ordered March 4th and today is D-Day.......im waiting patiently and its been a long hard wait since Jan 27th. Hopefully it pays off
-
I can't wait until my order turns into "delivery".
-

I placed my order on January 12th. Yes the 12th. About 12 days later my order finally shipped. Moments later my order went back into production and then cancelled. Oh crud right? A couple minutes later a new order showed up and had the same specs but overnight shipping was added for free and now my order was due on Feb. 17th and not the 3rd. I was confused and floored so I called and no one knew what happened. Just once the first order is cancelled it can't be sent to me. Well I said things happened but now since the order was being remade, why am I now getting charged $250 more than everyone else since my computer was now getting made at the same time? So they cancelled this mysterious new order and made another one with a better price. Well it was going to be a couple weeks more to get my laptop but I was getting a price break.
Next day I get an email and am told that my original order got cancelled because the shipping truck got in an accident and my computer was destroyed and they cancelled that order and expedited the new order and blah blah blah. So now I know what happened to my first order. The reorder with the better price only had a day extra EDD. So no biggienot getting expedited.
Two days later Intel announces the recall. Now my order is to arrive on March 29th. -
I ordered on Mar 3rd and mine is still in the "In Production" phase. So those of you who ordered the same day and already received must be lucky. I ordered a pretty standard stock unit too.
-
Ordered went through on the 8th. Still in production. Can't wait aarggggh! Haha.

Update:
Called AAFES, rep said there was a response from Dell that said a Dell parts agent would be contacting me tomorrow (Tues, I suppose) and would allow me to order the 6970M I wanted with the same discount, but that they will not "swap" the cards, since they don't want to have to sell the 460M as refurbished. So...guess I get to wait to see how much the 6970M will cost me, and whether the increase in total price is worth not having to return and reorder and then wait a month.
Such fun! -
Tell them you will return it if they dont allow you to swap it in which case they would have to sell the whole computer as refurbished. -
Original order 2/23 original edd 3/11.
R2 parts arent comming in, dell recommends re-ordering r3.

oh yea NEW EDD 3/21/11
-
So my EPP rep is playing hardball. Ordered 3/9 and EDD is currently 4/4. Told her I was going to be out of town then (which is actually the truth) and she said once it's "In Production" she can't change anything on the order including shipping. Is this total BS or is she telling me the truth. Either way as of right now it's in "Build" stage and hasn't moved since the 9th.
-
....its BS
-
My R3 was delivered noon today. Ordered 3/4

Think I'll get mine this week? Order completed on 3/8 -
-
I talked with the Aafes rep and let him do some digging, found out that if you were to just call up and ask for the card it is running $399 right now. So, unless the parts rep cuts me a deal for special circumstances (NOT FRIGGING LIKELY) they're going to expect me to pay much more than the upgrade should have cost if they'd just done what I asked in the first place.
If it is just a little bit more I'd be okay with it, since I might be able to recover some of the cost by selling the 460M, and I wouldn't have to go through boxing-returning-reordering-waiting for another month. Any more than that though, and Dell's gonna find themselves with an M17x R3 on their doorstep, and I'll be ordering what I asked for. -
I ordered my M17x r3 on 3/6, and today it showed as shipped with expected delivery of 3/16. This is running pretty close to the 7 to 10 day estimate I see people quoting on this site.
I'm very excited about receiving it! I have a pre-Dell design Alienware M15x (circa 2008) and it's definitely super-dated by the new stuff. BTW, just recently created my account after some significant time spent lurking; I hope to contribute and read more on this great site. -
Wonder if he's bsing or not.
-
Yep. I've heard from so many reps that turnaround is 10-15 days. I honestly don't expect to get my beast any time soon but to at least have some kind of status update and/or tracking number would help ease my mind. Once my order is shipped, I'll feel relieved.
-
Ordered 3/7 it shipped today.
-
-
No, through the college/company discount line. No tracking number yet, I have been literally checking it all day and it just now at 12:30 am said it shipped yesterday.
-
Maybe that csr I spoke to this morning was correct about how they're "backordered." Then what happened to all my requests and the promises they gave me to "expediting" and putting me on the "priority list" ? Totally bs. -
Check the status via the alienware phone number it is more up to date then the online information. If you reordered on 3/5 it should be in the boxing stage.
-
-
Same here - ordered on 3/7 dell tracking number still says in production...
guys where do you get the build stage part? when I called the automated system says "processing" is there an issue here?
i call 800- 283-2210 press option 3,,,, the system tell me "...being processed..." I have a feeling this is bad -
-
-
Ordered on March 5th still in the "build stage". Ordered through AAFES. OK though because I'm waiting for the vertex 3 ssd
-
"In production in the build stage" means absolutely NOTHING to me. It's been stuck that way since 3/8, day 1 after my order date of 3/7. On my first order before I cancelled and reordered, it had been stuck in that very same status since day 3 after my order date of 1/27.
Someone over at who ordered 3/7 is receiving his on 3/16. His order status says shipped to City of Industry's Fedex hq already. -
Im a 3/7 8pm order still in build stage since the 8th... I know it sucks dookie, but hey someone said that the status means nothing and we can get ours anytime -
-
@haroon, let us know when you receive it please. -
Also as a reminder, X3nia (I believe is spelled correct) said that the delivery e-mail and the updated shipping info online didn't show up until a few hours before the computer arrived at the door.
-
Still "In Production here. My edd is still 3/30, ordered on 3/3. If it gets here on that date that's ok, I just really need it before April 3rd. Seems like everyone who ordered at the same time as me already got there's on here.
-
Wow Mariner, you should may be call... what state are you in??
-
Back into the queue with you guys for a replacement system after the issues with this one.
3/15 it started, I was told I'd get it in 7-10 days but somehow I'm doubting that -
This would be like a bad dream for me... waiting and waiting... and waiting.... then Get it... and BAM! its all a dream... waiting again....
X3nia i feel for you -
Gonna a get a replacement model as well. Hopefully Dell actually understands why I'm returning it...
-
I don't mind waiting if they get everything right and as promised. I must've asked the rep about every detail 2 and 3 times to be ABSOLUTELY SURE I have some ammo if something doesn't go as promised.
Original EDD was 25th (10 days from now.. the maximum amount of waiting promised) so if I get it by then I can't really complain. I'm going to be really angry if something isn't to the same specs, its late, or there are more issues with the replacement but for now I'm fine waiting. I'll give Dell a chance. I'm also going to disassemble and look for any internal issues on day 1 this time.. I didn't find the plastic wrapper causing my CPU to overheat for 2-3 days.
