wow... a dell rep must have gotten hungry and grabbed a jollyrancher when building your rig.

    Wow sorry to hear that.

I wish everyone the best at getting a good working system with no problems, and I hope Dell's CS takes good care of anyone who does have problems. It's way to much money to just settle for something less than perfect.

I ordered through AAFES, on 3/7, and mine shipped out saturday. It would have been recieved, but I guess the FEDEX guy must be braindead, because he never even went to the door at my moms workplace where I had it shipped. There's always someone to sign there, and i know that someone was there at 9AM when the laptop came in. This is so frustrating!!!!     :(
Worst thing that could happen to a patiently waiting teenager. :p

I'm in California. San Diego to be exact. I'm not really worried as long as I get it before april 3rd like I said. If it doesn't ship by when it's supposed to, I'll call. Until then I'll play the waiting game.

Your frustration is my jealousy. I ordered on Jan. 12th. Still hasn't shipped. Now there are several circumstances. Delivery Truck accident replacement was being made and then a recall. Also, you can now go pick it up at FEDex now that they have tried to deliver it once.

Mine was CSS followed by BC2 and QuakeLive

Already played Crysis 2 (last night)... 30-40 FPS, Runs alright and looks great but I don't really like the game. Feels console-ized.

Hi everyone, my name is Stan (everyone: Hi Stan!) and I'm suffering from terminal waiting. My order was placed on 3/7/2011 at 8pm EST, dell quoted an EDD of 3/29/2011 (about to break out into tears) yet currently my order is in "Build Stage" (Breaks out crying and falling to the floor).

I ordered on 10 March. I contact dell Customer Care and they say it's because of the Sandy bridge problems, which I already knew about. He also told me Intel says they expect to ship all Dell orders by end of April or May. He could have been full of it though. So basically I need to pray it ships sooner.

I've had the same responses from CSR's over the phone but through online chat, they tell me the SB problem is fixed. It just seems that they're not on the same page when it comes to the m17x r3. We all know the issue has been resolved so, why they tell us that BS, I have no idea. Also, I just received my Asus G53JW in just a week's time.. Now I at least have something to keep me busy while I wait for my r3.

I think now that the problem has been rectified, they are putting earlier EDD's on. I think some of us that ordered earlier on had a much later EDD due to the SB problem and they didn't want all the complaints and people trying to get free stuff because of the shipping delay. I have EDD of 4/5 and I really expect to see it by the end of the week. I say that because most people are getting them in 9-10 days. I ordered on 3/9 so the 18 will be 9 days and the 19 is the tenth day. The only thing I'm worried about is Sat delivery. If I don't get a Sat delivery, I fully expect it Mon at the latest. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Fri or Sat delivery this week. I'll be out of town Tue though and with my luck it will probably show up on Tue. lol

    Wrong Video Card Update:

Finally struck out. Nobody from parts called me again, and I got tired of waiting, so I called this afternoon. The first person said he didn't think I could swap the cards out, but I might be able to send my old card back, get credited for it, and then buy the new card. (What the?) Even though he was very pleasant, I could see it wasn't going to go anywhere, and as it turned out he wasn't in parts after all.

So I got connected to spare parts, and spoke to a very pleasant lady there. She said she didn't know if they would be able to swap the cards out (as in procedure wasn't in place to do that), but before we even worried about it she wanted to see if the 6970M was even available as a spare part. It took her about 5 minutes looking into it and asking a couple of other folks, but she came back and told me that since it was so new it was only available in the pipeline for new builds, and wasn't in their system at all. She also said there was no way I could be put on a waiting list, and didn't know when it would be available at all.

So...I called Aafes and put the wheels in motion to return this one and reorder the configuration I asked for. It is extremely ironic that everybody on here is agonizing about not having their M17x...and here I am having to freaking return it. Insane!

I just looked it up myself and the EDD is 3/31. It's weird that they haven't updated everyone's EDD to reflect the increased speed at which they are shipping them out.

wait that is a ship date, not and EDD date. Although, if it actually took 7 days to arrive it would be on the 7th, which is only 2 days after my EDD and I ordered a week ago.

Push the issue with Dell and tell them that you are going to return it because it is not right and that you are going to look for another manufacturer that will configure what you want and ship it out correctly. I'm sure they will do everything in there power to not have to sell your system as a refurbished system. I think they will be willing to "work" with you if you tell them that.

    Best of luck to you.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? I don't ever like being a jerk on the phone if I don't have to be, but I've mentioned it every time I talk to anybody, and so far their story hasn't changed. They pretty much all say they have no way to set up a sale of the correct card, and a return of the old card, and the only way to get the 6970M in the system right now is a new order. I've even tried pushing it off to sometime in the future when the card is available, since it isn't *urgent* I have it...it is really just urgent I get this resolved since my return window is shrinking. But, nothing.

So anyone looking for an M17xR3 with the 460m 60hz screen...keep watching that outlet! :)

460m is actually a really good card. If you run a dual boot with linux you will appreciate the nvidia drivers over the ati drivers. Do you not like the 460m for some reason?

it is possible they are facing some production shortages, I think I read somewhere that depending on what configuration you selected there was a simple item that was holding things up like a certain memory config or NW card or similar, I hope I'm wrong

Ordered on 3/5, edd of 4/1, and arrived and in my hands on 3/15. :)
And as you know, it was through AAFES.
I'm in love with this machine, and i've only had 2 hours with it so far!

It is a very good card, and my only complaint is the Optimus doesn't provide the battery life advantages it advertises. For the money though, I'd rather have the more powerful card since it will more closely equal the performance available to me on my desktop. My personal experience with Nvidia cards has been almost completely negative. My one desktop (8800 GTS 640) Nvidia card caused random blue-screens due to an incompatabiltiy Nvidia had known about for more than 4 card generations but decided not to spend the money to work around, and I've had three fail in laptops due to poor fabrication practices.

With their business practices over the years, Nvidia has shown themselves to be a company I would rather not support if at all possible. It's a personal thing.

you guys are waiting 2 months? I thought they would have learned from the past. If they dont have the parts for it then they shouldnt be making it possible to order one.

About a year ago when i ordered my M17xr2, it took them 2 months from order date to having it in my hands. The dell reps lied to me and they are ignorant, IMO dont trust anything they say about your order date. It took a complaint to the BBB, in which i got it within a week. Alot of other people had the same problem.

Yeah, so I don't know if i wasd just one of the lucky ones or what, but It was definitely a good timeframe.
As long as it actually has a 6970 that is. I need to use gpu-z just to check when i get home, because i'm paranoid like that. :)
