Isn't it 80% increase? IMO that's a huge difference. Plus, 2nd graphic card will be an investment for later. Most games these days are coming out with SLI/XFire support.

**Getting an extra card + cable would probably cost ~$600 or so. So paying $300 for it now would be much better don't you think? **

I had i7 720QM on my M15x and it ran most of the games perfectly fine. The bottleneck was the GPU. I was going to get 720QM also on my M17x but I got greedy and went with 820QM. :D

    **What's your 2nd choice? 620 or 820?**

well i actually already purchased the laptop with those specs I just wanted to know how it would be performance wise and If crossfire is really 80% increase I am just going to have to get the second card later on cause its going to ship soon and I don't want to wait anymore :D

Ahh I see. Yeah 720 handles everything very well, you don't have to worry about that. If you're heavy in gaming though... you might want to get the 2nd card. I think someone's selling it on market for $500ish. You might wanna check that out.

Can't really help you there. :( I never had a computer with 4670.
And it's fine, everyone gets excited when they receive their AW after waiting weeks and weeks. I'll probably scream like a little girl when I get mine. :D

I only ordered on the 24 of April, but my online status hasn't even moved from 'order received'. My rep says I should get the system in early May, but from what I see here I won't hold my breath.

i got dell to make my M17x-r2 on double prio. so instead of waiting 9 days for the dual ati it went straigt to production :)
called them because they already made me wait a week before the finally ordered the damn thing so kinda demanded the priority. already lost a week by waiting on techs while problem was obvious..

date of order: 1-4-2010 (1ste april)
    Status of order: in production
estimated delivery date: 7-5-2010 (7th may)

EDD is probably next week :)

How'd you manage that? My current laptop (Inspiron 6000) decided this weekend that it was only going to take external power if and when it feels like it (which seems to be about 25% of the time, if that frequently). My current EDD is 4/26, but I'm not convinced this machine will make it until then!

    You are quite optimistic. lol

Yes, your rep was probably able to get an expedite at factory but lately that doesn't mean a darn thing with the R2. I think you are reading in too much about your order going straight into production, which is normal and what is supposed to happen.

Just don't get upset when you get your system in May.

i won't get upset, already accepted the fact it will take a few weeks time. few days more of less don't matter.
ups will probably compensate the fast factory work with slow delivery from asia ;)

I'm a little bummed and worried now. I was hoping to get it before I leave for vacation but that wont happen now. Plus if this finishes next week and i'm not home, i'll have to see what they do.....maybe hold it at the fedex hub.

I owned a 1640, the 4670 is a mediocre card. I'd say the 4870 is probably twice as fast as it. I only remember getting tons of stutters when the graphics got heavy with that notebook when playing L4D1.

    FYI
    From Logan, "Dell Blackhawk Team"
"There are two parts holding up your order. First, is the dual ATI cards. Also, the slot loading blu-ray is also on lead time."

Yeah, what my plan is I am giving Dell 1 opportunity to get my system to me.

That 1 opportunity is my orignal EDD of 4/19. If I get a delay than I will cancel for sure.

I just received yet another delay notice, so I went to check if there were any other replacement for the M17x plan. Finally, I laid my eyes on the ASUS G73JH with a HD 5870 1G GDDR5, which was good enough for me, and a lot cheaper. However, either bestbuy, newegg or amazon showed out of stock.

Well, then I have to reply to Dell and wait for another boring week...

Heh, I'm very jealous, but I saved over 1000 by going with a refurbed M15x. I'll probably get a 5870 for it eventually. Kind of sad about the M17x, but oh well, its fate I guess.

You played it right. You will no doubt sell and upgrade to the 5800s, but still have the use of an R2 now.

I am ordering today or tomorrow, knowing that I will cancel it and re-order with the 5800s assuming they are available in 4-6 weeks. (Not sure why I'm doing this? I guess that I feel that I am locking in the price / EEP discount)

Worst scenario for me is if i miss the 5800s by a couple of weeks. :(

You would also have to assume that the 5800s will allow for Crossfire as well. Just because a single 5870 M17x is going to be released doesn't mean that it will come in Crossfire configuration automatically.

Other manufacturers have already released a 5870 solution, but it's only in single card configuration. No one has attempted Crossfire yet.

Alienware is one of the few that actually tries to do Crossfire/SLi on a Laptop. Which is why I like them.

Hopefully they will release Dual 5870HDs.
