    First Post!

I figured all the reading I did on the forums that I would put this one in the Order Status Thread since I'm sure I'll be living here while I wait for my R3. Placed the order today and it's estimated delivery date is 04/22 so I'll be watching you guys for videos and pics on yours.

Back on thread: I keep reading about this upgrade to NBD, should I wait a week or two before calling about it?

I would wait a little while imo. Simply just because it would seem more impatient than actually Concerned about your order. Im not quite sure if anyone else has done this seeing as how i have NBD already. You could try calling different reps i guess, however most of the people who usually do that have gotten lucky with a nice rep or just one in a good mood.

Thanks! I think I'll wait a good week before I start harrassing them. I vote the thread get renamed to, "The Waiting Room: Support Group for Alienware Owners Counting the Days Until Delivery."

I'm actually kind of excited about it, I'm coming from a four year old Macbook Pro so "hopefully" I'll see a difference.

    Here's hoping lol

I have no backup pc, nothing at all. The only thing I have for any sort of "computing" is my iPhone4. I have a stack of games to load up first thing, and a digital copy of rift waiting to be installed. This past week, since I ordered my r3, has been the most anxious period of time I can recall. I want it yesterday.

And as far as upgrading to nbd, I'd give it a couple days. I told them I was willing to pay for it; they just gave it to me for free.

I'm still waiting for my notebook to reach my ShipitAPO address. Soon as that happens, I'll give it a good week until I receive it... hopefully. Also, it would really just burn me up if they decided to release the m18x shortly after the m17x re-released.. Not a smart business move IMO, that is, if that happens. I know I'll be happy with my notebook as long as there are no problems with it.

My feeling is that the m18x would get way out of hand for what I can afford. After all these years we are finally getting a decent spec'd m17x under $2000. Also noted that since I have seen the news about the m18x it is mostly been on vaporware sites and Alienware is pretty good at spreading their wares on Engadget, Gizmodo, Cnet and the like.

I will be more than happy with the m17x and the price I got it for. It's been a loooooooooooong wait and I'm still waiting! Hahahaha. Yeah, there's no concrete evidence on the m18x releasing anytime soon and I also spoke with CSR's about it and from what the few that I talked to told me, they don't get any information on new products until around the day before its launch. Not sure how much I believe them though. Sounds like static to me. I just hope I can at least have my laptop for half the week I'm on leave, which starts this Friday. :)

I would guess that the m18x would end up being the price of a desktop so if i was going to buy that one i would just buy a desktop instead.

Did you ask if you could go and pick it up in person? Sometimes your able to unless its just at a warehouse sized building waiting to be on the truck.

and as of right now it is ahead of schedule. who knows whats going to happen later down the road.

That's pretty horrible, I don't have my former laptop anymore so I'm using a Dell Latitude d510 to get me by (it plays age of empires 2...and solitaire). For the nbd did you just ask for the status of it? Or were you like, "There is an asteroid hitting my house the day after EDD so I would like one full day with my new machine." lol. I figure I'd give it about a week or so before I call just to see if I can get a human being to talk to me about how far along the process it is in.

    Last Pick:
That is murder! I'd hang out at the depot waiting! I have about 24 days or so left to wait so I think I'll just get my list of what I want to try out out of the way.

You can start with these. You can also go to youtube and search M17x unboxing videos. Other than going through all the posts in each of those threads and watching all the videos and looking at everyones pics, you will just have to keep coming to this thread and conversing with others that are still waiting for their BEAST's to arrive. GL with your wait.

GL on getting it ASAP so that you may have the most time possible with it while you are on leave.

I have been on 2 combat deployments and I remember waiting for letters or boxes of "goodies" to come, and wanting them about as bad as I want this computer now. (as I'm sitting the states) It takes a lot more to appease people in the states. When your out and about, the smallest things makes the biggest difference. So I know what your going through and right now you are waiting to win the lottery. Your going to win it; you just have to wait for it to come to you. LOL. Best of luck to you bud!!!

Very true. The smallest things definitely matter when you're on deployment. The emails, rare phone call opportunities, goodies/snail mail, etc. I feel that way right now, haha.

Thanks a ton Choppus! Dookie's thread actually helped me with my decision. It was mostly the discussion on the forum but his videos helped me get an idea about the machine. I kind of wish he would post some in-action stuff (cough cough). I was at the point of a new machine and since I had a macbook pro for ages I was just going to keep following suit with Apple then I thought to myself, "Hell with this! Let me get something that can take a beating." Initially, I was going to go with the Asus G series but after a bit more research on hardware and potential over the horizon stuff (such as the G74) I decided to lock in on this machine. Ordered this bad boy 10 hours ago... just staring at the clock. This is horrible...lol

Yea you gotta keep yourself busy i also did that for the most part. Yea it was kinda sucked going from being pumped that i was finally getting it to being pissed.

To tell you the truth i got overly ancy during the build process, dell actually does well in the end. They have been called, emailed, and also will be calling me on thursday to make sure i received it and everything was fine.

Might as well because that's about how portable the 18 is. A 17 inch is about the max size you can find stuff to transport a laptop. Unless you are filthy rich; then you can just contact pelican cases and have them custom build you a case. Or use one of their existing cases, but I'm pretty sure they don't have a laptop specific case that will hold anything over a 17 in laptop. (haven't been to their site in a while) I have the 1495cc1 laptop case. Pelican Products 1495CC1 Laptop Case I have had it over 3 years and it has not let me down. 2 combat deployments and uncountable assignments, and no dust/sand/water or anything else has penetrated the case. I have also seen it on the bottom of an AF Pallet with a crap load of heavy stuff on it and it was fine. (I'm sure you can google what AF Pallets look like fully loaded and see for yourself if you don't know (not anything close to a civilian wooden pallet)) When I first ordered mine they showed a vehicle driving over the cases and them holding up to the weight. Weather your in the military or just want serious protection for your expensive machine, these are the people to contact. Sorry for OT but I believe in some insurance on such an expensive purchase!

Sorry to hear that Bro! I didn't get mine today either. I was really expecting it even though the phone system said that it's preparing for shipping. Due to what we have seen in the past. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow though. Good thing is I don't have to work tomorrow so I will be home to receive it if it shows up!!!

Jeepers, I hope my EDD isn't spot on. It's 4/5. It's in shipping prep, and we have seen here on this forum, and on this thread, people that have received comp in 9 days from order date. We have also had a few instances of people that have received without an update from dell. ie. (Dang I can't freakin remember names for the life of me) He said that the online order status said in production and the phone status said preparing to ship, but yet he was typing on this very forum with the M17X R3. LOL

I don't think I would drive that far round trip not knowing if I could actually get it for sure. Now; if I could get a hold of someone and they could find my package their, pull it out, and hold it for me. I would def drive that far and maybe more to get it NOW. LOL. Although I think the worst part of the whole wait time from the order date would be the box in your car and a 3 hour drive home before you can open it up. Can you say SPEEDING TICKET??? LOL

Nope just called and said I'd like to change my shipping to nbd. The csr said that there's normally a $65 charge, but they'd wave it as a one-time gift. Maybe I got lucky?

Hang in there bud. It's going to be a long wait. (sorry for the truth) I have been all around these 3 threads as well as the HP Nvidia class action lawsuit. And then there wasn't enough on all of them so I started to look at http://forum.notebookreview.com/windows-os-software/340868-show-off-your-windows-7-desktop.html Trying to see what I may want to put on my desktop and see what new gadgets are available. (I currently have Vista, and not up to par with 7) This has also been helping me to kill time. Also some 360 to keep my mind off of the wait. Just do what you can to fulfill your time and make the wait as painless as possible. (YOUR STILL GOING TO FEEL SOME PAIN) lol

i feel for the people that are waiting, i ordered mine on the 3rd like most here. it shipped on the 11th was going to get here around the 15th but got damaged during shipping so called dell and they started a new order and gave me overnight for free. so that was the 11th on the 21st that ordered got canceled because they messed up the name tag. so since then i guess a new one has been in production and thats all i have right now even though i got an email saying it was going to be shipped on the 24th.

Damn man!!! Your in almost the same boat as "Nothing Shocking"! Although, I think after this experience he might change his forum name to "Nothing Shocking Except Dells Sales, Customer Service, and BS"

EDIT: Although I must say that Dell has been pretty great to most people and I have never had a problem with them. They will be my company for life!!! Provided they don't screw me over like HP has done to everyone!!! I WILL NEVER EVER IN MY LIFE BY ANOTHER HP PRODUCT AND AM URGING FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND CO-WORKERS TO DO THE SAME. Last week I talked a family member out of buying an HP laptop and going with Dell instead. The best part was I did a lot of research and got them a better computer with better specs for a better price!!!

    Welcome!

    Welcome!

Thx for the rep, mang :)

Please post requests of watever you want in my thread, and I'll try to make videos for you if I have time. Just got home couple minutes ago (it's 9pm here), and I usually fall asleep at like 12am lolz, so PM me your requests if I don't get to it quick enough. Also, a good time for requests is between now and Thursday, cuz I'll be receiving a replacement, so I wouldn't mind taking this one through watever you want me to throw at it. Again, please post your requests in my thread so as to not flood this one, cuz others are here to get info about order status :)

I agree with Choppus. This forum has really really helped me...... but then made my wait way worse hearing of others getting theirs. It also keeps your mind on how long you still have to wait so... SORRY!!! to say it bro but this forum sucked you in to a long PAINFUL order process.

Choppus i have to many tickets so that would be no good haha.

Yeah, there is definitely pain! I was actually in that Nvidia lawsuit due to my macbook pro. I replaced the gpu twice under warranty and just sent it away one last time (last week) for good measure. Even though it was defective I think the stress that I put on the machine takes its toll on the mac, sexy machines sure but play something for a few hours and you start breaking .

While the wait, I'm hanging out in vent and looking at cases and extra (Mouse/Cooling pad) I might need for this thing. On the mouse front, I was considering the entry level Razer one for $70 but I have no clue on the cooling pad or if I'd even need one. Any experiences with these?

I ordered the Razer Mamba the day i ordered the Laptop. I ahve to admit its an amazing little wireless/wired mouse. I would also recomend the Vespule and the Banshee. as for coolers im using the CM SF-19. But hanging out in vent would be awesome if i even remembered the one we were using befor my old computer caught on fire.

Well as happy as i am to hear that my laptop is ahead of schedule, Im still skeptical considering the testimonies of so many members here that dell has either lied or messed up something. I would like to stay positive but what are the chances that my notebook can be building faster than anticipated?

As for the "cough cough", just post on his thread and ask. The worst he can say is no or that he is unable to. He is a good guy and trying to do what he can to help everyone out and get them as much info and knowledge as he can.

Well that's good that you have 360 and PS3 to keep you busy. Just trying to help keep peoples minds off of the comp/order status. Also letting everyone know that no matter what you do to keep busy, you will still have waiting issues. It's just the nature of the beast (no pun intended) when you order something this awesome!

I do keep checking the phone, because as has been shown by everyone else including my order, it's the most updated with the most info!!!

See Verelsian, I told you he would be willing to work with you and try to help you out the best that he could!

yeah i see where you coming from. I will also be moving soon and that's always a pain so maybe that will take up most of my time. Either way Ive got my time filled. I might as well do my research on how to backup and prepare my new beast for the worst. Although i have worked on computers for a long time it hasn't been much software as much as just hardware.

The main issue with the wait for me is my time at work. Fortunately for me, I have free time at my job to do as I wish during the 50+ hours a week I'm there. My m17x will be the ultimate boredom stomper. It's just atm I'm sitting for 10 hours a day with nothing but my iPhone, waiting for Black Valor to arrive

its only a couple more weeks for us limit, if that. My main paranoia is that the laptop will become damaged or have software issues. So if anyone could point the way to a good Set up guide i would Appreciate it. If not one maybe i should do my research and make one.
