M17x Order Status Discussion - Part 3

LOL! I have a clean record now, but I had quite a few back in high school/college days. But I can definitely see myself getting a ticket on a 3 hr drive home with the M17x in a box on my passenger seat just waiting to be ripped open.

FYI: You can set your cruise 10-14 over the speed limit on the highways and be pretty safe. THE MAIN THING IS NOT TO TURN THE CRUISE OFF OR HIT THE BRAKES!!! If you slow from your speed you are admitting that you are wrong and they will pull you over quicker than crap. Just leave the cruise on and keep on going. 99% of the time they will just watch you go by. (TRIED AND TRUE FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS, IN 4 WHEELERS AND 18 WHEELERS IN MULTIPLE STATES!)

I have an HP that crapped out, but is not covered in the nVidia settlement. Thinking about taking HP to small claims court. I guess people have had some good luck with that and settling out of court for about 70-75% of original purchase price. There is a lot of knowledge and info in that thread. Even though it's mostly about HP's problems with the nVidia suit there are mac and Dell people in there rooting for the HP people. The info will blow you away and really open your eyes though. Make you a wiser person for the rest of your life. LOL. SERIOUSLY!


Can't comment on a mouse, but there a few people here that are looking at getting this cooler for the M17x.

Someone else got a cleaning rag off of e-bay I believe but I searched the brand and came up with this website and this cooler looks pretty good and I think pretty portable. At least more so than most other coolers!

Also keep in mind that unless your going to be using it while it's sitting on a couch or chair or your lap; the 17 is very well built and keeps itself pretty dang cool on it's own. Use it on a desk or table and you pretty much don't need a cooler.

 

It's very good chance that it's ahead of schedule. I'm just surprised that you got information informing you that it is ahead of schedule. We have seen someone (sorry terrible with names and not going to go back like 20 pages to look it up) that received theirs 9 days after order. Almost everyone has received their order before EDD and some have got it quite a bit earlier than EDD. After a bit though everyone hit a wall and no one was getting them for a few days. After that everyone was getting them closer to EDD or by EDD. Just keep your fingers crossed that they don't run out of anything and have to back order something, and you should most def get your order sometime before your EDD. How much before is anyones guess now though, as things have been shaken up quite a bit.

 

It def could be ahead of schedule. I'm just surprised that you got info stating that it was. The biggest problem most of us have is not getting enough info from dell. Someone on here (terrible with names and not going back like 20 pages to find it) got their system 9 days after order, and most people were getting them in 10-15 days even though the EDD was 3 weeks after order date. Now it's closer to 4 weeks after order date. We all hit a wall where no ones systems were updating and no one was receiving them for a few days and since then everything has been up in the air. Just keep your fingers crossed that Dell doesn't run out of anything in the mean time and have to place anything on back order. Other than that there really shouldn't be a problem with your system being ahead of schedule. GL in the waiting process and I surly hope that your system is ahead of schedule.

 

Apologize if this has already been answered but I'm a chronological kind of guy and I have been writing quite a few long responses to people and having quite the time keeping up with the pace of this thread tonight. I LIKE IT!!! Lot more going on in here than normal. I don't even have time to check the other threads. But that's a good thing. This is my favorite thread at the moment and I feel fulfilled helping others out with info about shipping status and other things they they might want to order. I know mine is coming sometime. I just don't know when. lol Just hope I don't fry my brain tonight and forget to call the number before I go to bed to see if they have updated anything. Honestly, if you look back on life in general everything is like that. I'm sure you couldn't wait for high school to end. Looking back it doesn't seem like it was that long. Same for college. Same for over 2 years of deployment for me. (one 15 months, on 12 months) Looking back everything seems like it happened in the blink of an eye, but while you are in the moment crap just drags on and on and on!!!

 

Right. Just keep reading these forums and search wallpapers and gadgets and what you want to do as far a backing up. Anything and everything to keep you occupied during the waiting process.

 

Putting in work tonight Choppus.. Thats good.... you guys have helped me through my order process i feel like we should do the same for others. Just to the people hoping for a short order process dont get your hopes up.... Not saying its not possible but NothingShocking can point you to how crazy it can get. But Dell hasn't forgotten you even though it can kinda feel that way.

Thank you for pointing out not to expect a short order process. I may not have pointed it out well enough. Even though we have seen as short as 9 days for someone; Nothing Shocking and all of us have lost count on his days and how many times Dell has screwed something up for him. Also I would like to re-iterate that after the deliveries hit the wall last week and no one was getting anything it seemed like everything stopped, things are just starting back up again in the past few days. So to sum it up; it a freakin crap shoot. GL to all, and there will be people around on these different threads to keep you occupied during your wait!

This is a link from page 28 of the previous thread, posted above ^. Thank you to vviz for taking the time to set the computer up in different backgrounds and take great hi res photos. You can zoom right in to look at each port and read the labels above the ports. Zoom in on the Keyboard and check all that out and look at what they have designated all the F keys for. Zoom in on the grills and check all of that out. These are the most pics/best quality where you can really get a good look at the unit without actually having it in your hands.

Stage: Pre-Production (the whole time).

I called on the 28th and they said it would be delivered on the 29th! (automated message).

Of course it doesn't get delivered on the 29th, so I call again and get "Your order is in pre-production" nothing else, no estimate, nothing.

I check again tonight and it's delayed until 4/11/2011. 29 freaking days!

I think I might cancel and get the mythical M18x!

Ordered on the 15th EDD was 4/11. Said production yesterday until I called the alienware automated number. Out for delivery today. Please god let them deliver it when my wife is home.

I ordered just before midnight on the 8th (I have been calling it 3/9 because of that) and my edd is 4/5. It still says preparing to ship. This is like the 3rd day that it has been preparing to ship. So I hope it's actually on the way and they sytem just hasn't updated.

I still don't know how some people get so lucky??? last week someone who ordered on the 10th got theirs. Now I'm wondering if they have some thats building them quickly because they know what they are doing or someone just throwing them together haphazardly or they have different specs. Care to share your specs so everyone can try and compare and figure something out?

If you haven't been reading along in here I would suggest starting back about 5 pages. I put some homework in there for ya to keep you busy while you wait. lol. We have see 9 days the earliest delivery and have almost a month. (Although it's almost been 2 months with all of Dells SNAFU's for Nothing Shocking)

What was your original EDD?


I'm freakin going crazy. I don't understand how it takes 3 days to prepare mine for shipping. I really hope the automated phone system just hasn't updated and it's actually on it's way.

I ordered on the 9th and seeing how soon people were getting them, I was hoping to get it between the 17-19. (days 9-11) Then last week everything hit the wall and no one getting theirs and everyone was trying to figure out what the hold up was. Then they started to ship again, so I was hopeful that I might get it at the end of last week. That came and went. This past weekend I was hopeful that I might get it this week sometime, but the week is slipping away on me as is my hope of it arriving.

EDIT: New tactics. I'm just gonna keep calling the automated line until their system burns up or it gives me some shipping info.

 

I SAW THAT! He's a Razer warehouse, I should just buy mine directly off of him rofl! The picture with the cat did freak me out a little, anything with claws (that's not me) so close to my machine would make me nervous.

Has any reason as to why the wait is so long (I'm assuming these are long waits)for the machines to be produced? I was thinking about it yesterday and the only thing I could come up with would be either something on AMD's part with the GPU or some strange Japan tsunami link.

After close to a 3 month wait. I finally get mine. Ordered on Jan. 12th and it arrived today. 1 day later than the EDD and that was after they told me it would be delayed "indefinitely", then delayed until April 5th. Now I have it. If I can get my order, then anyone can get their order. Those who know my story can understand that.

I can only hope that mine will show up shortly today or gonna have to wait till tomorrow. I'm still a little concerned that the automated phone update status says preparing to ship. It's been preparing to ship for 3 days now. Anyone know how long it take them to put the computer in the box and throw the other stuff in? Then Fed Ex should just stop by and pick it up. I haven't been trained in packaging computers, but I'm sure if they gave me everything to accomplish the job I could have it all figured out and nicely package in an hour at the very most. Where do they hire these people that are taking 3 days to package the systems?

I love the Pelican cases. One question for you though. Why are you going with the 1495 case as opposed to the 1495cc1???

How is that important information? Why would I want to write that down?
Dell, your toying with my emotions now. It seems I have been left in dust like Nothing Shocking was. There are people who ordered after me and have already received theirs, and now everyone that order around the same time (give or take a day or two) as me all have them.

Don't get me wrong. I'm happy you all received your systems. I just feel left out.

Does it deliver via UPS or FedEx?


UPS does business deliveries before residential, unfortunately. I never get my packages until like 6 or 7...I swear I'm always the last one.

 

They use fedex.

 

They should put a warning or notice on their website before ordering.

I think as others have stated, when it says "preparing to ship" means its on its way from China to FedEx. Mine was in that stage for three days before it actually shipped from FedEx.

 

I recieved an email saying my order shipped, but I'm surprised my order isn't in yet, EDD 3/31. Called today and the rep (a different one) was honest enough to tell me it probably would miss the EDD.

Apparently in the industry, "shipped" means the package information has been sent to Fedex, but not necessarily the item itself.

I ordered a Inspiron 17R for my GF on the 24th with an EDD of the 4/14 and it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow. My R3 ordered on the 9 with an EDD of 4/5 and has been being processed to ship for 3 days now. I'm really hoping the shipping just didn't update for me and they both are delivered tomorrow. Wish me luck guys!

 

So I ordered on 3/8 and my EDD was 3/31. I called today, trying to be as nice as I could. (because I really want my damn PC!!!) A Dell rep told me my m17x was delayed due to the malfunction of the Intel chips. Uh, I thought that happened back in January. Is that not correct??

Dell Rep: I do see your order was placed on the the 7th however it has been delayed. You order batch was affected by the recall of the Intel chip.
Me: Was anyone going to notify me? My EDD was the 30th.
Dell Rep: No.
Me: You know you could have atleast updated the internet with the status. It still shows "In Production".
Dell Rep: Sorry sir..
Me: Wait, didn't the Intel recall affect the previous orders before mine?
Dell Rep: (rudely) Yeah, well it's still going on.
Me: I hate you.
Dell Rep: I hate you too.

Okay that last part about the hating didn't happen but it might as well have.
Ended up asking for his supervisor and of course our call drops!!!

I'm going to call and see if I can get another rep there. I'm so confused with why there's such a delay on my shipment!

Try calling 1800ALIENWA you usually get more information there. if that doesn't help then try contacting a dell rep and see what the hold up is.

 

Yea well i had to work all day so didnt get to really play with it so i have to dl my apps then post a few pics i took... but as the original EDD show up perfect so dell kept their word im pleased..

 

Hi I just wanted to give everyone some hope.

I ordered on 3-18 with an EDD of April 13th. I got an email from Dell Monday 3-28 saying it was on it's way. I received it today. It is a base I-7 2630 M17X R3 with 4 gig of ram and a 6870 video card. It is red. Custom nameplate.

I used online ordering EPP.

Maybe this will help everyone figure out why some are getting theirs faster than others.

I am in the midwest and tracking said it started in Chicago.

I need some help over here. This is for people who had their laptops sent to their ShipitAPO address. Did you guys get notified right away that your order was delivered to your ShipitAPO address on your account or via email? I tracked my order thru FEDEX and it showed me that it was delivered and signed for today but I didn't receive a notification on my account/email. Any help would be appreciated.
