That's AWESOME!!! Glad I could be of some service. I'm sure it will help the rest of you out after your order is in Preparing to ship. As we know Dell isn't of much help.

Well I have been on here and I have been on the FedEx site looking around. It's getting later in the day and I was trying to search where I could pick my package up if it didn't get shipped today. Whens the map came up it showed the location of my address wrong. About 3-5 miles off. So I just did a screen shot and put it in power point and put some writing in there to show where I am. Trying to work something out where I can meet the driver somewhere to pick it up. Haven't heard anything back yet.

I will keep you guys updated. But as of now, it looks like I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow. I dont' know how much they are willing to work with me here.

Even though the map is incorrect hopefully the driver is from the area/worked here long enough to know the actual address. He was here yesterday morn (if it's the same driver). Yesterday I said, "just one today?" Then he asked if I had another one coming. I said yes because I did, but at that point in time I didn't even know that mine was supposed to be coming today. Otherwise I would have told him that it was coming today and I would have a better feeling in my stomach right now. (it wouldn't be churning, thinking that I'm not gonna be able to get today and gonna have to wait until who knows when tomorrow.) (SO FREAKIN CLOSE YET SO DANG FAR AWAY) And as I said before it took FedEx 3 days to pick up my package after dell sent them the info. Which means I could have potentially had 3 days sooner. And if they would have picked it up just one day prior it would have received early yesterday morn!!! Dang FedEx!!!

 

I just got off the phone with FedEx after sending them a few e-mails and they said that delivery has not been attempted yet today. (I know they haven't come here because I have been sitting by the door all day and there is also a note to leave it just in case I had to go somewhere) Only problem for me is, I'm thinking that a delivery hasn't been attempted because the driver couldn't find where it was supposed to be delivered to with the location on the map they are saying that my address is. They have the location of my address on another road and it's like 3-5 miles away.

this is the most frustrated I have been since I ordered. I know it's on the truck for delivery and it's supposed to be here today, but I don't know for sure that it will be with the mis-information on the FedEx site.

 

Whewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Sorry for the ranting and raving today guys. Been very very stressful day.

ANYHOW IT JUST GOT HERE.

Said to the delivery driver, I didn't think you were going to make it today. He says nonchalantly, yeah I ran my route backwards today. I could have choked him out right there. LOL

The knot is fading in the stomach and I think I am able to start breathing again!!!

Ok time to open up. Will be on later with it, and hopefully have some photos for you guys.

EDIT: Forgot to tell you all that mine beast was the last package in the truck. Just sitting there by itself, all lonely!!!

Hey folks, thought I would jump in here because I just impulse bought an M17x

I've been using Dells for 10 years and their CS and laptops have always treated me right. I can't call myself a hardcore gamer, because I'm not- I've grown used to a long stretch of mediocre graphics cards that couldn't play next year's games. I've basically stuck with sports games and only recently dabbled in RPGs. I've never really played anything graphic intensive.

Anyways, I will be starting med school in the fall. I wanted a gaming laptop because I will be using gaming as an outlet for all of the stress I will endure, so it was time to step up and get myself something decent. I had always dreamed of getting an Alienware desktop/laptop, but after falling in love with the Qosmio then having a change of heart, I just today decided to buy the M17x on impulse. And I don't think I will have any regrets. I couldn't really afford a ton of upgrades and I'm not going to be gaming on it 24/7, so with that in mind:

My csr guy told me the replacement would ship out on 4/1 (that's today). Online status and over the phone doesn't have an EDD for me. The phone says "that's all the information I have for you at this time," and online it says "Information Temporarily Unavailable." When I called him yesterday, he said that it prolly wouldn't show up because my system is a replacement as opposed to a new order, and they're expediting it out. End quote... It better get here on Monday, or I'm going to call level 3.

 

Pretty pathetic that mine is still "in production" when I placed it on the 15th :/

It did not get turned on until 1830. I took my time unboxing and taking a lot of pics for you guys. I think I have 44 pics. I don't think I'm going to upload all of them, but a good share of them will get uploaded for you. I used a standard pen and a pad of sticky notes in quite a few of the pics so that everyone could kind of reference the size of everything.

So far I downloaded Fire Fox, Google Chrome, osirisdevelopment.com/batterybar, and my Norton 360 V5. (still had a product key left) Changed the Taskbar buttons setting to never combine. I usually have a few webpages open and several tabs in each one. Changed the Alienhead power button to be a hibernate button. Still need to change the lid closing to put it in hibernate mode as well.

I still have to connect my external to put the items from my old user folder into this one. Copy over my bookmarks. Import my info and settings for Norton. I have to install Microsoft Office 2010 which came in the mail today as well. Probably finish doing all this tomorrow or the next day whenever I get to it.

I have not messed with any of the AlienFX yet. I also want to mess with the facial recognition feature to see how that works for me and if I want to use that.

 

Probably not gonna do any video. But I do have some photos. I think I want to use picassa. (thats from google right?) (someone suggested photo bucket too)

LOL I don't need much sleep, but I know that I'm not going to get much to night. So much to do. I can't believe how much crap their is to do in order to get everything set up.

Wait till Tue., they don't deliver on Mondays. (FedEx home delivery that is)

You guys hang in there. I hope dell really gets caught up on their ordering and starts cranking these systems out for everyone. GL with the wait and I'm gonna try to do a review (although I don't think it will be as good/ in depth as dookie's because I just got late this evening and haven't really had much time with it. I will also upload some photos for you guys so that you can at least day dream about your system for a bit while you are waiting.

Off Topic quick question. Do you have to have a google account in order to use picasa?

Back on topic:
I had a bit of a scare today, I noticed a deposit back into the account for the amount I payed for. After dealing with 2 dell call-center reps and a manager I learned that dell withdrew the amount the first day then placed it back into the account with a hold for that amount. The amount will be permanently/finally withdrawan on the date of shipment. You guys who have had amazing Dell CD experience please PM me the extension numbers. This phone gauntlet is killing me.

 

I'm working on it. I have to create a google account in order to use this picasa thing to upload the photos. I'm sure the MODs wouldn't like it if I uploaded 10.2 MP pictures right in the forum.

 

Ugh. FedEx has had shipping info since yesterday but it has not changed at all since Dell sent them package info.

So how long does it take before FedEx starts showing updates? Is it possible that it's already on a plane but nothing shows that?

Very frustrating.

FedEx had the info Dell sent them for 3 days before they picked it up. At least that's what it said on FedEx. I was in preparing to ship for 4 or 5 days. Not exactly sure whats going on between the two companies.

So i was going through my order status page AGAIN and noticed this on my order "DELL-DOWNLOAD-FLAG". anyone know what that is ? tried googling but not a lot out there.

That unfairly make waiting for something like this more of a pain.

What gets to me the most is that I have never experienced this sort of delay before when ordering anywhere else. Always gotten a firm tracking number and delivery date the moment something I've ordered elsewhere goes into a shipping status.

I am sure the rest of you have as well.

All this inexplicable overhead just makes the head spin.

Truly bad mojo for people who have problems waiting patiently. LOL

 

I feel your pain. Been there, done that. At least I figured out that little secret for you to track your order; otherwise I'm sure you still don't have a tracking number from dell. Hang in there. I didn't have expedite or NBD and I received mine the day after FedEx picked it up. More like day and a half but by the dates it was the next day. (dang FedEx guy running the route in reverse)

 

Damaged(scratched) lid, BSODs.

Picassa is good, and yes it's through google.

 

I knew it was through google. I just didn't know if I needed a google e-mail address in order to use it. They made it seem like you did. I wasn't quite sure how to go about making the picasa account without a google account, so I just created one. Prob never use the e-mail, but I think I had to have it in order to create the picasa account.

 

So yah. 1 down. A bazillion more orders that we at NBR are waiting for our broz to get. So sad so sad. Even though I received an imperfect machine, I guess I'm lucky still, that I received it a few days sooner than the EDD.

Keep up the patience guys. In the meantime, you know what to do: read every single thread you can possibly read about the R3 lolz. Or to occupy yourself, do as someone posted today: read my review over and over hahaha.

Once again, that was a great review! You set the bar high for me to do a review after you. lol. My is definitely going to be in the same type of laid back format though. As you all know I just go to town on the keyboard. no real rhyme or reason.

My R3 EDD 4/15/11 is going to have the factory 256GB SSD. I have a new 500GB HD to add for a 2nd data drive. Assuming that everything works fine with the one SSD drive. Do I need to do anything in BIOS before installing the 2nd 500GB drive? What if from Dell, it is set to Raid in BIOS?

 

You can press F2 at startup to boot into the BIOS. Change it from RAID to AHCI I believe.

nice deal, i paid 2K before taxes for that same config, only difference was that i had 8 gb of memory plus a razer orochi mouse.

I don't even have the first one to send back yet! Lucky s. It makes me think about how willing I am to return it given the wait I have to put up with.

On the backorder front, some of you are insanely lucky with your CS's. Is there some number I am not dialing or something? It feels like I am calling the Peggy dude from the Discover commercials ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRLwKw9up3s). I ask for details on how my laptop is comming along in the production process and then they read to me the same site that I have access to.

 

My system has reached London UK via fedx, ordered through HIDEvolution 12th March due for delivery tomorrow.

Since my real issue is two stuck pixels, do you think it would be worth my while to just contact tech support and get my screen replaced? There is no reason to believe my replacement will not be worse.

 

That might be true. If your dead pixel is in the middle of the screen, then I'd go for a replacement.

Question: Does the replacement lappy come with all the accessories, discs, etc? Or will it just come with the plug and the lappy only?
