    LOL your too funny. I was trying to help everyone gain a better idea as to the size of everything. As that hasn't really been done like I have done yet. There were also some comments on some of the threads about it.

    @EVERYONE: I was up till 0500 this morn before I laid down for some sleep. I was going to test out some more stuff and write my review, but a buddy wanted to go fishing, as trout season just opened up. Since I have been home, I have been testing out the facial recognition software. I am going to try and write an initial review tonight. Not sure how late everyone plans on staying up tonight but you might want to just check it out in the AM. I'm really not sure how in depth it's going to be but I'm going to give initial impressions, pro/cons, first downloads, what I still have to download/setup, and maybe a story or two along the way. Remember I have only had the beast for a little over a 24 hour period. Not sure if any of you have ordered the facial recognition or not but I have been playing with that a bit, so I will have some comments on that as well.

    I would go with the 2720 just because the 2630 is on back order and holding systems up from being shipped.

    Thank you. I hope you get it very soon. Speaking of the longest wait ever. when I was in Afghanistan I ordered my Jeep through ENCS and that was a long and terrible wait. Because I ordered it like 6-8 months before my REFRAD. I think they waiting got more intense after "mine" was made and it was sitting at the dealership waiting for me. At night I was dreaming about going out on missions in it. LOL. For some reason waiting for this thing seemed a lot a worse. I don't know it it's because it's more like ordering any ol' thing and you expect to get something you order fairly quick or because the memory has faded about how long and hard the wait was?

    Here's the latest in my attempt to stay sane during the wait byt harrasing dell employess.

    I spoke to Alienware today and the CS rep told me that he'll send an e-mail to the factory and expedite my order. I'm not sure if this is actually something that happens, anyone else been told this? Just wondering if this is just a customer service thing told to me to keep me at bay, lol.

    2720QM so you can support HyperX and 1600 rams.

    Where are you now? I wish I lived near somewhere to go fishing. Damm hood/city life.

    I did that 3 times. Got promised that 3 times. Each time they said they'd send me a confirmation email, but never did. But, in the end my computer came "earlier" than the EDD. Received 3/25, EDD 3/30. So not sure if coinkydinky or the "expedite" request actually worked. I'm pretty sure that it was just a coincidence.

    I orderd this back on March 14th after my R2 order which was placed feb 23rd was having issues. I was assured that it would be expedited, and moved to the head of the production line. Absolutly promised that i would recieve it before being deployed March 30th. Thats why i went ahead and canceled the R2 tho I didnt really want to becouse my R2 order had Xfire and the 1200p RGB screen. BUT i did... because i was promised expedite so i would have it in hand.. Dell didnt know if the R2 parts would be in before i left since the order had been pushed back 3 times already... Well guess what.. I deployed, laptop EDD is March 4th and it hasent shipped according to the webpage or 1800 alienwa.. Now my wife has to accept it, and re-ship it across the world. Where im headed i probably wont see the damn thing till July.. Dell reps dont actualy help. they get paid to bull you into hanging up the phone.

    I'm a country boy through and through. Grew up bout 1.5 hours south of Rochester NY, 6 hrs from NYC and 1/2 hr from PA. Currently I'm near Syracuse NY. I love to get outside and do stuff. Hunt/Fish/Offroad/Ride Harley. So unfortunately, you guys may not see me on here much anymore.

    I say coincidence. I got mine 4 days earlier than my EDD and I did not have expedite or NBD. I also received it the next day after FedEx picked it up. (didn't even have to call and talk to rep and try to put me on a phony list at all) TO EVERYONE ON HERE. I WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT CALLING TO EXPEDITE OR NBD, BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN PEOPLE THAT HAVEN'T HAD THAT GET IT QUICKER AND PEOPLE WITH IT THAT HAVE GOTTEN IT MUCH LATER, AND PEOPLE WITH AND WITHOUT THAT RECEIVE IT ABOUT THE SAME TIME. I HONESTLY FEEL THAT THAT THEY ARE GIVING YOU A LOAD OF CRAP AND JUST TRYING TO MAKE YOU SATISFIED WHEN YOU HANG UP THE PHONE.

    Congrats and I hope you get yours quickly. GL with the wait. Go back a bit in this thread and find where I left some homework for you guys waiting to keep you busy. My homework will keep you busy for sure until your system arrives. LOL GL, and congrats.

    That sucks, and I apologize man. What branch you in, and where are you heading?

    I'm Army, and have been deployed 15 months to Iraq and 12 months to Afghanistan.

    Just to make you feel better. You could get it in 10 days. The longest I have had to wait for mail was around 60 days. but 99% of the time 5-15 days. GL and I hope you get it very soon. Keep us updated and let us know when you get it man.

    Thanks for your service brother!

    OK I said I would have a review for yo guys tonight, but that is just not going to happen. I was away from the computer to long and had to much crap to do in order to get everything caught up. So I will try and and get it to you by COB tomorrow. On the plus side as I have been using it I have been taking more notes to add to the review. (Not kidding, I always have a notepad next to me while on the computer (since I started looking for a new computer, so I could take notes) to take notes and double check stuff and compare) So anyhow, more notes have been added and when I get to the review tomorrow you will have more info than if I would have submitted the review today with less hours on the system.

    I sincerely apologize to everyone about the false advertizement of the review coming tonight. I just don't have the time or energy to make it and have it be at least decent. lol You all have read a few good reviews. You don't want crap now. I'm actually helping you by holding of on it, because now you are waiting for me review instead of thinking about something else. lol So you got through today, and tomorrow after you read my review, hopefully it will help you get through tomorrow. Although it may make you think you can't wait any longer because the system is so great. I have had 7 hrs sleep in 67 hours so you probably wouldn't want to read something that incoherent anyhow. LOL Catch everyone tomorrow.

    The wait is indeed on :) In the meantime, try to read up on your new toy as much as possible. Feel free to visit any of our review threads, and even the FAQ thread, and please shoot us any questions/requests you may have.

    Don't worry bout it. Remember how I had like a 2-3day delay before posting my review? No worry.

    I ordered my M17x R3 on 3/29 est ship date 4/22. I called CSR at order status number today to see how order is coming along since automated system and online system differ as to what stage it is in. I was informed it is in "build" status and has a green light and should reach me on or before 4/22. He said he would call me next week to update me on the status. Will see if he calls.

    I asked where it would ship from and he said it might ship from Texas which would be great as that is where I am at or from somewhere like Brazil which would not be so great. I did not get expedited shipping yet.

    Alienware M17x Soft Touch Nebula Red
    Intel Core i7 2820QM 2.3GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
    4GB,1333MHZ,DDR3,2X2G
    17.3-inch WideFHD1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
    2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6970M

    Hey everybody!

    Just ordered my M17x on 4/1 with an EDD of 4/27. This is my first gaming rig, and I'm very excited. I actually caved in over the weekend about a couple of upgrades, and the customer service rep that I placed the order with said he would see if he could cancel and re-order(the order had already gone into "production"). Anyways, these are what the specs will be:

    Alienware M17x, Soft Touch Stealth Black
    Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz(upgrading to 8GB when I get the chance)
    2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 6970M
    320GB 7,200RPM HDD(Adding a 120GB SSD when I get the chance)
    17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED

    I had ordered it with the 460M and without the screen res upgrade, but I caved in and said what the heck. I'll be going to med school and using gaming as an outlet to relieve stress, so if I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right. Plus, I can finally have a laptop that should last a couple years and be able to play games for a while. Will definitely be putting up pics and whatnot. Can't wait, will keep ev1 posted. Feels good to join the club!

    I ordered mine on 3/31 and they gave me an EDD of 4/26. I hope it arrives before then because I leave for a 3 day fishing trip to TN the next evening!

    Anyhow, I went with these specs:
    * i7 2720QM -- Couldn't justify $200 more for 100MHz more
    * Win 7 Home Premium -- Wish they provided an option for no OS... Will dual boot w/Debian
    * 4 GB DDR3 1333MHz -- Never buy extra RAM from OEM. Already have Kingston HyperX 1600MHz on order. Cheaper to do afterward.
    * 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 6970M -- Would've gone for nVidia 485M if it was an option
    * 320GB 7,200RPM HDD -- Plan SSD swap and mechanical 2nd drive. Never upgrade drive from OEM for same reasons as RAM.
    * 17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED -- It was Alienware recommended, haha ;)
    * Intel® Advanced N + WiMAX 6250 a/g/n 2x2 MIMO Technology
    * Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW) -- I don't own blu-rays!
    * Alienware M17x, Soft Touch Nebula Red -- Most people seem to be getting the black

    Great choices all around, I am also doing the SSD swap but I'm not sure when. Waiting for something good to come along in 120gb or more. (New SATA III SSDs if possible)
    Yeah - The no OS thing sucks. I wish they offered it too and I would have tried to get it not put on or something as I have a Win7 Pro key from MSDN or whatever the $30/win7 deal was at release.
    High res screen = great, much more space to work and all in all looks better, I also noticed a lot of games do not need AA because of the high pixel density.
    Soft Touch Red - I was going to get it but thought I'd get sick of it. Black goes with everything, red doesn't :)

    Yay. Sort of.

    Shipping Method: Next Business Day
    Shipped Date: 4/3/2011
    Estimated Delivery Date: 4/6/2011 (updated)
    Carrier: FEDEX GROUND
    Tracking Number: 92988368663XXXX

    So ship method is NBD yet it is going FedEx Ground?

    And my EDD got pushed back from the 4th to the 6th.

    Oh well at least the damn thing shipped and I should have it soon.

    By this stage of the game I am just totally numb.

    Go back about 10 pages and look for a post I put up. It has a link for you to get to the FedEx page and FedEx asks you to put in reference number, you just put in your order number that you have from dell and, it will let you know what's going on with FedEx. Dell doesn't update anyone with enough info. This is a way to sidestep them. Also, are you just checking the web or have you called the 800 number to check? The web stayed the same through the whole process (in production) You have to call the number and check it that way and as soon as you are preparing to ship via the 800 number you will def get updates if you find my thread and go through the process that figured out while I was waiting.

    Can anyone link him to my post or know what page it was on? If not I will go back and search for it in a bit. I have some catching up to do on the forum as I haven't been able to be on much in the last few days.

    I didn't even have NBD and I got it the day after FedEx picked it up. I would have had it in about 12 hours after they picked it up in NJ and I'm in syracuse NY (way upstate), if the delivery driver didn't run the route backwards that day. The day before he delivered my GF computer at 0943 in the morn. I got min at 1633 I think. It was the last package on the truck!!!

    Just go to Global Homepage > choose location > hover over Track at the top of the page > click on Track by Reference

    Great call by Choppus for realizing that the Reference Number FedEx uses is the same as the Dell order number.

    However, FedEx will not have the information on their end until Dell sends the shipment info to them.

    click on the DOT (dell order tracking) on my sig, and put your dell order number in where Fedex asks you to put in reference number. Kind of a joke because dell doesn't help you track your order. This gets you around dell and you can track your order yourself from the time dell sends info to FedEx. They don't even have to pick up the package yet. I found out that dell sent my info to FedEx 3 days before FedEx picked it up.

    Thanks! This is only the 3rd laptop that I've bought for myself since I'd generally use the laptop that work supplied to me. The new one they just gave me is a ThinkPad T510, but the they gimped out and only gave us the option for 1600x900 screens. IMO, they essentially gave me a beefier netbook. I do a lot of work with VMs and remote administration of customer sites and I cant stand to have to do the vertical scroll when working on a remote system. These 1600x900 screens are fine for the employees that use their machine for email, web browsing and friggin Power Point presentations, but I need some darn screen real estate! We'll see if work gives me any grief about putting my personal machine on their network. They don't mind all my VMs on their network. I like to battle with IT. ;)

    I'm interested to see what kind of performance bonus I can get with the DDR3 1600 RAM over their supplied 1333 and the swap from the mechanical primary drive to the SSD. I also expect that this thing will soundly thrash my current Q6600 desktop, haha. I'm waiting to rebuild that when they Ivy Bridge chips come out maybe late this year.

    Until then, I'll play the waiting game!

    My system shipped and I can expect it tomorrow. Once again, though, Dell cheaped out on me and went with GROUND versus Next Business Day as promised.

    Its also coming from TN instead of NJ... I hope it has no issues! Also can't wait to take pics of not one but TWO identical M17X next to eachother just for laughs :)

    Second replacement order was put on the 23rd but I have a feeling they expedited it for me because the first order was cancelled for no reason.

    Whelp, no word on my replacement. Online has the sameold "In production" and "Information temporarily unavailable" for the EDD. Over the phone "In production in the build stage. That's all the information I have for you at this time." It's supposed to arrive today too...

    EDIT: Meh, just called the csr return guy, he told me that it was still "In Production" and should have shipped out on Friday. He's gonna contact the manufacturing team and get back to me. Meh to the max.

    My order date was 03/22 and my EDD was 04/13

    Called today just to check if I should be looking for any delays/holds for whatever reason including parts.

    He assured me that production was on schedule, and that my order should ship out on the 12th and arrive by the 13th.

    I could have spoken to a clueless service rep, but it's encouraging at least.

    Through checking the online order status page. Apparently, its because my account was flagged. My original M17x was marked as missing or stolen???? :eek:

    IDK. Will think about what I want to do tomorrow.
