Made in China on the bottom, shipped from Round Rock Texas on the shipping label.
-
Thus far, we've seen shipping from Round Rock, TX (Dell HQ) and TN... Dell undoubtedly sources the final assembly to a facility to minimize shipping costs to the consumer whenever possible. Wonder if they have a facility somewhere near the west coast too? -
That would make sense but sadly, I know its not always true. My M11x R2 shipped from Round Rock and I live 50 miles north of Nashville, TN. LOL
-
I am pretty sure I have seen shipments come from City of Industry, CA. As well so that covers the west coast.
-
Your config was probably not "in stock" in the TN facility... Therefor Dell either would've had to pay someone to create your config, wait for the stock to be delivered (unduly making a customer wait), or pay the extra shipping charges from TX... Since it makes sense in most cases to fulfill the order as quickly as possible, out of existing stock, and then be able to bill as quickly as possible, the extra shipping charges are inconsequential.... (especially considering that Dell probably has some really, really good shipping rates since they ship a LOT....)
Just a theory, but from what I know of how the big build-to-order manufacturers operate it makes sense to me. -
I ordered at Feb, 3. Still EDD shoing Mar/8th (updated several times)
I hope my laptop will be shipped this week.
too painfull to wait. -
Yeah if it doesn't ship this week, I may just cancel the whole thing. Painful waiting process.
-
Anyone else having issues with the order status page? I keep getting, "Sorry, an error occurred while processing your request"
-
Exactly what I am getting SkylineLvr. At first I hoped it was due to my status being changed. But that seems too hopeful
-
I used to have that, but try using this to track your order, and this works.

Just don't use the mobile app. Using that it still shows my EDD as 2/17
I am getting the same error. Maybe they are having issues because so many people are checking their order statuses... -
-
Funny, I just checked the mobile app again and while it still says my EDD is (was) the 17th it is showing Shipped on one screen and In Production on another. I haven't received an email or anything about it so I don't know which one to believe.
-
Just spoke to my rep. Nothing new as of now, still shows in production. He did say that since someone's was shipped out on Friday, mine should be getting shipped soon. EDD is still set for the 8th. Hope the cards are in fact in stock and our orders are getting filled.
-
-
Mine is shipped today!
According to the UPS website it should arrive wednesday.
-
-
-
Ohhhh sig read fail on my part!
Back to waiting... -
Actually, I chatted with Dell today regarding changing the delivery address... They said my machine was sent to the shipping department, but there was no carrier or tracking number assigned yet. Crossing my fingers it goes out the door today! Original order date on mine was 25-Feb. -
I ordered the 24th of February.
EDD was 20/3 so I'm very happy I'll be getting it that soon. -
Alright, this is getting a bit ridiculous. I ordered my m17x with 580m on 2/13 with an EDD of 3/6. I emailed them today to confirm this was the big day but lo and behold, he responds telling me it is going to be another weeks delay because the card is still backordered. -_-
do they honestly think people have all the time in the world to just wait and sit around like this? I'm honetly fed up right now -
-
-
I don't mean to sound like an , i'm moreso frustrated by the fact that the guy handling my order never thought contact me or inform me of any delay. I was pretty much under the assumption it would be shipped today until i had to call them myself.
He told me the 15th was the final date too, so hopefully all of us het our systems by then. -
i know if I'm delayed beyond the 15th, I'm probably going to cancel. I hope they've assessed how many cards they've ordered and checked it against how many machines are stuck in the middle of a build just awaiting that part, otherwise they might run out again. That's probably why they pulled the card from the list of build options (so that the build queue would stop growing).
-
I am ok with back ordered parts. But Dell/AW needs be a bit more upfront with A) the reasons (my rep won't even confirm its the video card, just "Parts on back order") And B) a upfront timeline, they have to have a idea of how many are needed, and how many they can get and when they will get them.
Even now my EDD shows as the 7th and my rep is waffling on admitting its going to change or not, even though if it ships tomorrow for delivery on 3/7 I will be truly shocked.
If they had been up front when I ordered I would have sacrificed the 3D screen so I could load up the 6990 and had my system by now.
I have gone from being super excited for my first Alienware system, to being frustrated and slightly ticked off. And that's not how to treat customers. -
I do admit it is bothersome to try and get info out of the reps. My rep has specifically told me that the only part I'm waiting on is the 580m. According to his system I'm still expected to see my rig on the 8th.
Now that hc2995 is expecting his system in today makes me think I'll see mine by the 8th if not a day sooner. He ordered his a day before mine. Depending on how many systems were ordered between us with the 580m, I feel I'm close in line to get mine. The right thing to do is fill each system the order in which they were placed. I don't believe calling them ing should move your system ahead of anyone else.
On another note, how's the weather up in WA? I grew up in Puyallup and Tacoma. I sure do miss home. -
I ordered on the 18th. I guess I'm not so fazed with the waiting because I have yet to call/speak/IM a Dell rep...there's no need. If I call/speak/IM a Dell rep, I'll either be disappointed or get some hemming and hawing, so I'll pass on that. When I ordered the system, the order system stated that I'd have a delay if I selected certain parts (hard drive and 580m), so I was aware right off the bat that I'd be facing a long wait. I'm all for them getting it to me before EDD if they can, but as long as I don't have to wait past the 15th, I'm fine. Over a month waiting on this system, though...F that. That'll be when I take my money elsewhere (unless they make it worth my while to wait further). If you waited longer than a month, more power to you, but that not the direction I want to head.
-
Your right SkylinLvr, you shouldn't get moved up the line because your annoying. However... having worked in similar environments, I would put down money that it happens in the background
I am a bit over a week behind you I think, so I have little hope I will see my system this week at all as there must be a quite a few between us. (darn those M18x buyers and their 2 580's...)
Weather is all over the place, but that's normal. Just last week we have had snow, rain (lots of rain..), sunny relatively warm days... back to snow. -
Mine has shipped! It should be here tomorrow. I ordered on the 6th (one day after hc2995) so it looks like they are rolling out...
-
edit: Mine actually shows that I ordered on the 7th. Since I ordered through AAFES, it took them a day to process the order to Dell. No big deal, hopefully tomorrow will show that it shipped.... -
-
-
Mine too, It says in production 3/8 Still........
Small prayer to the "I want my notebook gods" -
Just got a call from my Dell rep. My order has been finalized and is awaiting shipping. He said it can take from 24-48 hours, but I'm hopeful it'll ship today since it's still pretty early. I'm just grateful my long wait is close to being over.....
-
Well, mine shipped last night. Checked the order status around midnight, nothing... Checked email this morning and got the email notice that it shipped via Fedex. Dell tracking confirms and has the Fedex tracking number...
Mine's shipped from the Chicago area (for anyone else who might care). Chicago is probably just a hair closer than TN for me, but it's still two day shipping either way. Should have it in my hands tomorrow!
I'm sorry for y'all waiting on the Nvidia card. Hope you get yours soon.

I think Dell is trying to drive me crazy seriously. Spoke to them last night, and basicly got this. "The system is delayed due to back order of parts" but when asked for how long the delay was I get "Your order status shows EDD of the 7th". I am like ya i know what that says I can look that up myself, but you just told me it was going to be delayed... I want to know by how much... "Well your order status shows..." Going to make my brain snap. -

Now have to wait til 22/03/2012 though, hopefully there will be no delays as I've booked off 19/03 - 26/03 so I can play around with it!! -
The reps i have dealt with can't seem to do anymore then regurgitate the same order status I can get online, even though I know there are issues and delays. The last person I spoke with was like a robot with no free thinking ability. And I have had my order 'expedited' so many times I feel I should have gotten the system before I ordered it! -
Mine showed up this afternoon. I installed the new RAM and just played around with it a little. I think I will fire up a couple of games just to see if I run into any problems with the 580 and then drop back to the A08 BIOS, install the SSD and the re-install everything. So far very nice though.
-
Well finally got a semi decent rep. Who admitted to me that my system hasn't even gotten past first stages of production. And they can't even get me an EDD at this time.
I am so close to cancelling the order if they can't get me a realistic EDD soon. -
We all went through what your going through now. It seems as though the info our reps get is very limited. They rely on the factory that is building the system and I'm guessing they don't get many updates from them. -
That's part of the problem SkylineLvr, while its not the rep's fault the system is delayed, Dell needs to keep them more informed, and have the juju's to tell people when they can't deliver straight up. Part shortages have been around since the flooding in Thailand back in November. Short supplies are not new Dell should have an idea of fulfillment. I don't mind waiting, I do mind being BS'ed and led on to keep an order. And per my call today it seems even next week isn't going to happen they did get a shipment of 580's but looks like they already blew through it and now have to wait for more.
AND to top it off when I mentioned changing my order to a non 3D screen and an ATI card I was told I would put me at the back of the line. That is not acceptable customer service. -
Just for your information, Dell actually contracts directly with Compal to manufacture these. That is why Dell has such poor information from the factory and basically no control over them, it is not a Dell factory it is a Compal factory.
It wasn't always this way, some people may remember a few years ago that you would actually get many more statuses for an order, like 7 different statuses that today are all just "in production". For whatever reason Compal isn't willing to do it that way, and provide very little information to Dell. -
I just looked at my order then looked at the calendar. My EDD is 15 March. There's seven day shipping via UPS, so that means my order would need to be shipped by the 8th. I still haven't called...dunno if that's going to do anything. They haven't adjusted the EDD since they initially assigned it. I want to trust them but I do not want to babysit them either. I may call tomorrow just to establish some ground of understanding that I'm not expecting a delay this late in the game, and that since I haven't heard anything, no news is good news (and give them the chance to pass any delay information at that time).
-
I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but when it comes with Dell, no news doesn't typically mean good news. If you don't contact them and see what is going on with your machine, chances are you wont hear any news. People have just sat back and watched as their EDD change without any notice.
