I ordered thru AAFES on the 18th, and AAFES pushed to Dell on the 19th. When I first checked the order, it showed the EDD as the 15th...it hasn't changed since. I've been checking it daily and nothing has changed, so I'm not worrying about what hasn't changed...I'm worrying about if they'll change it in the next few days (they better not). So, I'll be waiting just shy of a month, per the EDD.

It might end up getting pushed back a week, but that all depends on when they'll get more cards in. I know when I was calling last week, I kept getting told that they are expecting more in by the 15th. My bet is that they are getting a shipment in every week. If it is true, then there is a good chance you'll get your system on time.

Well finally got my bad news in email. My new EDD is now 3/28 almost a full month push. Going to call them today and see if switching configs away from the 580 will speed anything up. And they better sweeten the deal too if they want to keep my order.

Will post more as I hear more but bad news for any that ordered after me.

That does suck. Seems they had a ton of orders between us. I was pretty sure you would be at the most a week after me.

When did you place your order?

Placed my order on 2/15. I am 99% certain after I have lunch today I will be canceling this order and exploring other notebooks. My original EDD was 2/28.

Think I have had enough of this. Maybe I'll change my mind after lunch.

Maybe Ill get an IPAD HD and play angry birds day in and day out.

I just got an email from the Dell Order Verification Team asking for my home address and work address even though I'm already past the Order Processing stage and into Pre-Production? Anyone else had this issue?

I asked someone on the live chat and he just advised to send my home address and details which I have done although I don't see why I have to give them my work address when I paid for the laptop outright and didn't use any finance?!

I'm hoping this doesnt delay my order :(

Edit: The order has actually gone into In-Production now?!

    I'm lost.

If the new EDD is 3/20, how/why are they prepping it for shipping now? If it's delayed because of the 580M, why are they prepping for shipping?

And, IMO, if the product hasn't been shipped yet, I'm almost positive you can cancel. They might tell you 'no', but that just means you aren't being loud enough, IMO. And that's one of the reasons why using a CC for such purchases is a good thing. If they won't budge, dispute the charge (if you used a CC...you can't dispute a charge if you used a debit card).

I used a debit card and I order one with the 6990m I think the rep is telling a lie about being preped for shipping. thinking about going to the bank and stopping the payment?

Currently the trend of recent orders being shipped has been about a month. hc2995 ordered on the 5th of Feb and got his on the 5th of March. Hokum Malarkey ordered the 6th Of Feb and got his yesterday. I ordered on the 6th (didn't get placed to Dell until the 7th) and was told by my rep yesterday that it finished production and was getting boxed up. He said it'll ship within 2 days. I was hopeful that it would have shipped yesterday, but my status hasn't changed. It should be here tomorrow, possibly today.

Those of you expecting your order to arrive after 2-3 weeks need to realize that others that ordered before have had quite a wait. You can go back like 20-30 pages of this thread and see all that we have been through. If you don't cancel your orders, I would still think your orders will be shipped around the 30 day mark.

Well, they shouldnt bill you untill it ships I would ask to speak to a sales manager before stopping payment, that could have big repercussions.

Fresh off the phone with my orginal sales rep, should have called him directly AGES ago.

Anyway he tells me it is not just the 580m at this point but also the M17x chasis itself that is back ordered so even changeing the video card won't help. The current ship time on a fresh system is the 19th but even he sort of admitted that it's prolly not accurate.

So anyone thinking of ordering, hope you do some research here first to make a informed decision. I still have my order in for now my rep says he is going to look in to another discount for me (I have a lot applied already) to compensate for the wait and get back to me with that info and hopefully a better idea of a realistic timeline by Friday.

It is possible that the change in your EDD was done by mistake. From what I have read, there aren't any delays with the 6990m or any other part. It is possible that your system will ship out today. People have reported that they have received their system 1-2 weeks before their EDD.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Luthair74's situation. He ordered a few days before I did and he's now being bumped back to the 28th. That's more than a month...more like 1.5 months. That's quite a bit longer than your wait, and you stated multiple times that if you didn't have yours before a certain time, you were canceling.

My situation is also a bit different from yours. My EDD was scheduled almost a month out from my order date. Yours got bumped to 30 days. I definitely don't want to go beyond 30 days, as I was at 30 days from the very beginning.

What's got me sour is the fact that my charge immediately went through and they've had my money for 3 weeks without providing the product. I didn't say anything, since it didn't matter when I discovered it, but now with an impending EDD adjustment that's going to break the 30 day mark, yeah, I'm rather pissed. Imagine if this were you. I know you're eager for your laptop...with 4-5 postings a day over the last few weeks here in this thread, you can't hide that fact. Well, you aren't the only one. :) Now imagine if you were told that you got bumped back 2 more weeks... You might have ordered earlier than some of us, but remember, some of us had our original EDD projected much further out than yours.

What they should've done was just remove the 580M from the order process once they determined there would be backorders...it would've prevented this massive bottleneck. Yeah, they did it a week ago, but that's rather late in the ballgame.

It might have been false hope. I posted before reading what Luthair74 wrote. If it is true about the chassis, then it might be a longer wait.

My original EDD was almost an entire month from my original purchase also. When I was placing my order, it said the 22nd. Then when the order finally went through the next day (due to AAFES taking a whole day to process it to Dell), my EDD went to the 5th. I called and they gave me free next day shipping. That bumped it back to the 1st. It then changed again to the 8th, and appears to be on schedule for that. Of course my EDD is going to be sooner then those who ordered 2 weeks after me. It all goes in order of purchase date. Things would be different if we ordered closer together and I got my system weeks before you did. I'm just going off of my situation and a few others who ordered within a close time frame of me. They got their system in about 30 days, mine is around 30-31 days. Knowing all that, I was assuming that you're guys' situation would be similar. Now it appears you guys will be waiting for the chassis as well.

All our situations are different. The reason I was close to canceling is the fact that I am leaving for England on the 29th. I will be out of my house on the 19th and wouldn't be here to pick up my package if it was delivered after the 19th. Now, if I wasn't moving in such a short time frame, then I wouldn't have been as adamant about canceling/changing my order. If they would have delayed my order another 2 weeks, then I would have had to cancel because of my move. I would then have to wait until I got to England and moved into my new house before placing a new order. The reason I ordered while still in the US was the fact that I would get the system much sooner. Placing an order in England through AAFES can take 45 days or more.

I also understand about having already paid. Because we ordered through AAFEs, we had to pay them the price of our systems. Speaking to my Dell Rep, they haven't actually billed AAFES yet. They'll bill them once the laptop ships. Since I paid with my Military Star card, I don't have to pay until the 14th of this month, but I've already made payments for it. I did speak to a rep at AAFES and they told me that if I wanted to cancel my order, I had to cancel through them. They would then cancel the order to Dell.

I used my Dell account to take advantage of the 12 months 0% interest. While I ordered 02/06 and they held the funds immediately, the charge did not actually post until 03/05 (the day it shipped). I would think they do the same with a debit or credit card. I know I've bought items with my Debit card from other places and while the bank held the funds in a pending status it didn't actually post until after it shipped. They kind of have to do something. I mean while you have the funds at the time you placed the order what would happen if they did nothing until it shipped (10, 20, 30 days later), went to charge your card and the funds weren't there?

I have a Dell Preferred account. I could've used it but I'm trying to lower my debt-to-income ratio, so I opted to use my debit card for this purchase. I also ordered through the EPP program, through AAFES, so things might be handled differently (see Skylinelvr's comment above, last paragraph).

Regarding your last statement (in bold above), basic checkbook balancing principles would mean that I'd account for any purchase (funds held or not). If I spend $2500 on a computer with my debit card and the funds held/allocated but not actually transferred, the money would be accounted for in the account registry)

So I contacted Dell and got bounced around for awhile. For those of you using EPP to purchase, don't use the online chat. Once they find out that you used EPP, they'll courteously break off the chat and give you the URL and phone number of the EPP department. I'll save you all some time...call 800 695 8133 for EPP-based inquiries.

After getting transferred to hell and back, I finally got ahold of an EPP Customer Care representative. He checked my order and was very responsive to my questions. He informed me that my EDD hasn't changed. He placed me on hold while he contacted the production team to ask what the holdup was. They're just awaiting the 580M, nothing else. I asked him if there was a backorder on the chassis and he stated that there wasn't. He asked for my phone number and e-mail. He stated that he'd e-mail me if there were any changes to the status of the order. I got an e-mail from him and now have his phone extension and e-mail address. So now I have someone I can stay in contact with regarding my order.

My EDD hasn't changed. I dunno if I should trust that or not. We'll see. I won't be canceling the order just yet then. I'm in wait-and-see mode.

Well my order was shipped just now 1:42pm central US time. Seems kinda funny when I got a email today saying the EDD has puched back from 3/8 to 3/20 BTW my order was placed on 2/23. I think dells status updates are not all that accurate ,and there reps don't really know whats going on half the time JUST SAYING thats not fact. hoplefuly you guys that got your EDD.s push back will be sooner like mine! :)

I wasn't implying you couldn't balance your checkbook so I meant no offence with that statement. I was just saying from a company's viewpoint, they can't assume everyone does so they put a hold on the funds. A debit card would be treated like a credit card. And for a credit card you would not be charged interest on held funds; just after the charge posts.

As for how AAFES handles it I don't know; are you paying them or Dell? Anyway, I haven't had to deal with them for many years. Let's just say I had a blazing fast 486 back then!

    No offense perceived.

Most companies I work with don't do that. They put the onus on the customer. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure the funds are available, in most cases.

There are some big caveats with a debit card, in comparison to a credit card. The biggest one is that you can't make a claim against a debit card, but there are others. It's one of the reasons I usually don't use debit cards for big purchases. But the credit card comment you made is a very good point.

Apparently, I'm paying AAFES and AAFES is giving the money to Dell. I usually don't purchase through AAFES, but I've found that you save quite a bit since you don't pay taxes if you purchase through them.

For everyone who is considering canceling their orders, why? You've waited this long... might as well grunt it out :) I said they were getting cards in last friday right? And a lot of people have received their orders, albeit it wasn't a lot of cards they received LMAO. Now... they will be getting more cards in this friday and on the 15th. Suck it up... and distract yourself (other than calling dell and raising hell lol) for when you receive your rig, it will be as if Christmas came early.

Well you better be getting a backpack, a mouse... hell have them throw in a headset and the keyboard. I made them add EVERYTHING that came to my mind.

The wait sucks cat balls, but you can (like I) possible get hundreds in free stuff. I know a few people here who actually already got dell to compensate them for this long wait.

I rather wait knowing I'm getting a once in a blue moon deal vs canceling (just an economically sound decision). My order is now over $4,600 when it was at $3100... :D

Really? When i spoke to my rep he told me i would get a $100 credit for the delay, but when i asked him to include a backpack he said i could only choose between the two... Aslo told me i would have to cancel my order and reorder for any additional discounts. Is he trying to cheat me or something?

lol hell yea he is! as long as the crap they are adding on does NOT interfere with the build, you are golden... he just didn't want to do it. They tried offering me a credit and I told them to shove it and was upgraded to next day delivery. 24hrs later I raised hell and got a backpack and the logitech mouse (lol I already have a rat9). 72hrs later I raised hell about my EDD not populating and getting the run around (was told 4 different EDDs and was on a single call for over an hour)... ching freakin ching, I got the keyboard and headset. But I'm evil in my dealings and not very nice when it comes to being messed with by dell uninformed and knowledgeable reps. lol my order reads well over 4.5k, but I think they priced some thigns wrong... like my damn cpu is priced at over $1600 for some odd reason... I dunno. A pic is floating around in here somewhere. Anyways... push and make them give you junk until they absolutely refuse, but keep in mind you must have valid reasons lol.

keep calling until you find someone that will cave in. But keep in mind you can only do this per "issue". I have several issues that I leveraged to get free crap.

Yeap :( I thought I missed the boat for the first batch of cards... someone or group aren't being truthful at dell. I'm tracking it via fedex right now... someone is lying to us about these cards.

I checked my order a few minutes ago and noticed that the EDD changed from 3/15 to 3/13.

I also noticed that they changed my shipping method from 7 days to next business day!
