If you're just going to upgrade to the 680m, why not save money now and get the 660m?

It's in the Alienware M18x 2 and R4 are coming thread some people received their laptops and DayumM17x stated his was out for delivery this morning. Could be different for everyone though.

haha no I'm not annoyed at all. No I don't think I'll regret the 675m yeah it costs more but really wanted 120Hz, and a 3D screen.

I'll upgrade to the 680m when it's out, shouldn't cost too much money to upgrade GPU's

well, you can keep it for a year I guess (it is still a very powerful gpu, not the best anymore though :)), but if you have hardware greed (damn it ) that's why I said you can regret it..

I am scared to hell that if I will purchase an m18x as soon as it has 7970m available, damn!

Yeah, well one person has so far, he got over night shipping like I did.

Talked to a Dell representative about an hour ago he said this:

"SV is currently out of the office but I have updated your case. He is working on your case & will update you as soon as he gets in.^FY"

Don't know what that means, and I hope they didn't cancel my order again... or I'm going to be extremely aggravated.

Well yeah I guess I'll keep it until the end of this year, it can already play any game on very high resolutions so it doesn't bother me.
The only thing is that when I play Batman I'm going to play with physX and 3D so I'll probably have to play on medium settings.

Aren't Maxwell GPU's from Nvidia due next year? Those are supposedly going to triple the performance of kepler (GTX 680/GTX 680m)

not the performance, the performance per watt.

Also after the 28nm fiasco, I wouldn't count on Maxwell being too early either..

From what I've seen, getting Notebook GPU's after you make your purchase, i.e. buying them with cold hard cash is extremely expensive. Almost not worth it to be honest (to me anyway).

On a side note, I want my laptop! :(

I don't think it's worth it at all. On top of that, Dell doesn't seem to interested in releasing official bios updates for their older laptops so people can actually upgrade their parts in the first place. Though, I don't really blame them... why would they give anyone a viable option that *isn't* buying a new laptop completely?

This machine is pretty much quiet only when gaming ie bf3 the fan comes on but in all not much. To me it's not noticeable until my nephew asked. From a newbie in pc gaming this is probably the best gaming I had.. Graphic was totally out there...the only thing I really check was the temp of the machine which at high is around 63... I haven't really did anything to the shebeast yet hopefully this weekend I'll do some real damage to it..and how do I switch my graphic card to use the 7970 only???

Same here man i have a feeling mine hasnt even shipped yet and it probably wont for a while. After reading around Alienware is notorious for being extremely conservative with shipping dates. People have received their laptops onky a week after ordering. I hope i get mine soon, ive wanted an Alienware laptop since I was 16 and now i ordered one I'm just cant wait to get mine. Lol, the PS3 will do for now

Didnt know it'd cost up to 1300 dollars. I can just buy the 680m and do it myself if it isnt too hard to do. But voiding warranty and jepordizing my 2500 dollar laptops life is kinda scary....

I'm almost positive mine's shipped, but no email with a tracking number yet. With that email I received yesterday confirming my upgrade to Ivy (I already knew, no surprise there), I can't imagine anything else having to be done before shipping it. I've had a few Alienware laptops in the past, but they all were prepped and shipped within a week, notably the M9700. C'moooon Dell. Gogo.

As far as upgrading your laptop, it's fairly easy to do depending on what you want to do. RAM and hard drive are easy, GPU isn't that complex, but voiding the warranty isn't something I'd want to do.

Just canceled my order and reordered with the Ivy Bridge processor, and 24GB of ram, which I got for just $50. The man I ordered from said it should be here this month, and if we don't here from them before the middle of May, to call. Hopefully it gets here soon.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone received their laptops without getting a "Shipping Notification" email? I have heard rumours before of this happening. I guess this is just me trying to be optimistic. I heard on Tuesday that my Laptop was just having the final testing done to it and then it would be out the door. Then again, how do these customer service reps know that???

I asked the guy if he could confirm that it was being shipped with the IB processor instead of the 2nd gen intel and he was stumped. He told me that he had no idea what I was talking about and that it out of his technical know how.

    So there is hope.

And I dont think they would update the Order Status page since that is likely what sends out the automated email.

Ah yeah, that would make sense.

Now the real question(s): To get excited in hopes of system having shipped without any written queue, or to assume that they will update the status page (in turn bringing an email to inbox).

    This is awful. Haha.

Well I will continue to have hope until I watch the Purolator truck come and go without dropping off a huge black cardboard box. Then I will just be miserable all weekend and will start over on Monday.

It's not really that I'll be miserable with out, but I'd really like some consistency. Either it shipped, or it didn't. If it shows up and no one's home to pick it up while I'm at work, that'd suck.

Haven't received any sort of e-mails from Dell regarding Ivy Bridge or it shipping. And whenever I ask a rep a question they give me the same answer as if they know nothing of what's going on; "Ship date is 5/23/12 and is expected to dilver on or before 5/24/12".

Ah well, have to keep my mind off of it, getting jealous of you guys! :p

This is what I am worried about, we have to sign for it don't we? I'm never at home I'm always at work or at school!

Haha don't be so negative! If we get our laptops by tomorrow that still has to be the fastest laptop production/shipping ever, if it arrives by next week it'd still be very early.

I'd assume considering the high price of the laptop that not many people buy them so finish production a lot faster due to the not very high demand of them.

Can anyone post pictures of their laptop? I see a lot of people saying they recieved them yet no pictures.

Not sure if you saw my post a while back, not sure if it was on this thread or not, but I did receive an email from a General Manager (of Alienware) stating that I did in fact get the upgrade at no cost.

Wonder if anyone else received the email.

You guys are lucky. I originally ordered mine as an R3 on April 5th. They ran out of the 6990 that I ordered it with so I was forced to cancel my order and reorder it. Good thing is that I am basically getting two free upgrades now (7970 and IB) and the price stayed the same. So I am getting everything for under $2000.

2011Mustang5.0, I really hope I get mine before you. I bought a 2010 Mustang GT and then found out a week later that 2011 was going to have the 5.0. So I got screwed on that. So maybe karma will make sure my laptop arrives today.

This kind of bothers me... I ordered on the 24th of April and I still have no 'Shipped' notification. I'm hoping it already did and they just didn't update the Order Status like with some members.

If it really hasn't shipped yet I'm kind of peeved. :-\

Edit: Mustang, yours then showed the 'shipped' I see from your picture. Urghhh. Did an email follow right after, or?

Tell me about it! I ordered on the 19th... I have not received any update... I keep calling, they keep giving me this " It is in the final stages of production crap " my order was suppose to be expedited, seeing how they canceled my order 3 times because of lack of parts... at least 3 people have ordered after me and have all received their product.... I am growing weary...

I hear you bud. I should have gotten next day or something. If I could go back and do it again, I'd have definitely picked faster shipping. In my head I'm convinced it shipped (but with no update in sight), now the problem becomes waiting the ~7 days of shipping time. Looks like another weekend with no laptop :( .

Yeah i'd like to think it shipped too... lol but if "run4fun" ordered on the 4/30... and I ordered on the 19th ~~~ 10 day difference vs 7 day shipping I still should have gotten my order or at least a shipping notification... pure Ridiculouness! I'm wondering is it the SSD we ordered that are holding us up... if so they should just let me know and I'll be like "ok" dont like being kept in the dark ( did that for nine months in my mothers womb!! lol j/k

Yeah they cancelled my order at least 4 different times as well ugh it was a hassle.

haha what?!?! That sucks man! Same thing happened to my friend he bought a 2010 V6 and without doing any sourt of research about a month later the 2011 V6's were released with 31 MPG and 305 horsepower

The 2010 GT is a nice car with an amazing sounding V8 it's a definite luxury that not everyone can afford be appreciative of it!

Nope didn't get the e-mail until this morning and it said that my laptop would arrive on the 24th, FedEx says this...

Wait what? So the Order Status page said 'Shipped' (when'd you check this by the way, this morning, yesterday, or?) but you got the email regarding the shipment much later then? On top of that, the email just said it would arrive on the 24th? LOL.

Christ. Might as well not even check the status page/email.

So how long do you think it takes to do the "Final Testing" on a laptop? Cause mine has apparently been in the final testing phase for almost a week now.

TBH your laptop probably already shipped, the thing is you probably received 7 day shipping or something like that.
If you don't have expedited shipping don't even bother looking at the page they probably won't update it until your laptop actually arrives and they'll probably tell you that it just went into production LOL

The order Status said "Shipped" yesterday late afternoon.
Didn't get the tracking information until later that night.

Woke up with an automated email saying it'll be here on the 24th.
I know, but if you ever need help with your order don't speak with Dell Sales team they are clueless (no offense).

I would recommend you to keep checking your order number or dell purchase ID I guess it changes on time for some people.

Still waiting for my laptop ugh I'm getting anxious.

Were you checking the order status page religiously? :)

You better take some pictures of the box, and then the system! Think of me!
