How long it normally takes to get it from this point on? I will be going on vacation and was wondering if it's possible to get a specific shipping date for when I come back (or before I leave).
-
Looks pretty solid rorkas. Upgrading to an SSD at a later point, or?
-
Yes, I will also add more RAM. My credit card was charged yesterday, so I'm now waiting and hoping it gets here in time. Seems that some people got theirs in less than two weeks, that would be really nice.
Never had an AW before, hopefully it will be a good experience. -
I just got off the phone with Dell. They told me it is still in production (They just read the Order Status page anyways, I dont know why they call me every day when I can do that myself) but it is in the final stages. It was in the final stages last Monday when they called me.
I mentioned to him that people on this forum were receiving their m17x laptops with the same configuration as mine and he got a little hostile with me, like I didn't know what I was talking about. But this is the same guy who didn't know what an Ivy Bridge was.
BiH115, I totally understand what you mean about being peeved about this. I know the EDD is set for a couple of weeks away, but when people ordered theirs after me and have already gotten them...it kind of ticks me off. But I hopes are still high that it will arrive in the next couple of days and I will still be getting calls from Dell telling me it is still in production. -
I hear you. I'm supposed to get a call today from the Dell rep. who called me last week to tell me that my system was in "early stages of production" and that "no CPU upgrade was happening". I better hear 'oh your system was shipped last week'. If it's anything but that I'm gonna flip.
Chances are, with my luck, that it'll be "your system is almost through the production phase". We'll see. -
I only regret that I didn't order a week ago, probably could've gotten better price too and hopefully on its way to be shipped. -
-
Believe me when I tell you guys that they have no clue... I have my laptop... the website still says in production...
-
-
I hope you're right. I just got a follow-up call from last week, sounded like the same guy (had accent, fairly easy to understand), I think he said his name was Martin..? Anyway, he told me that my order was in the final stages of productionmad: ...) and that the estimated date they are shooting for is still May 25th (my EDD). FYI I couldn't answer the phone, so just listened to the voicemail, he also sent an email saying the exact same crap too.
Now I mean I know about people receiving theirs WAY before their EDD's, some people have been ordering way later than me (April 24th) and getting their machines as early as last week even. The thing is that I'm having a hard time choosing what to believe here. Do I believe this rep. and continue on thinking that it's really in production still because he works there, or do I come to grips with the fact that they really are ill-informed, and that my order is already on a plane/truck headed to my house..?
This is ridiculous.
edit: I swear to god he said "Martin" on the phone, but apparently the email is from a "Raj". Go figure. -
They have no idea what is going on. They call you to make it look like Dell is putting some sort of effort into keeping you informed. All they know is what the website tells you, which is hardly ever correct. Their call centre is no where near the plant where our laptops are being made, so its not like they can run down to the plant floor to check up on our order.
They likely told you the original EDD because they have no control over or knowledge of when it goes out. It is all a smoke show.
I would still think that it should be arriving early. -
I hope so! This is what I like to think. It makes the most sense to me anyway. I also like to put all my eggs into one basket in regards to the later than usual shipping of my laptop. Reason being that I did not get next day, but rather just the standard 5-7 business days. I'm pretty much betting that the ONLY reason I don't have it now is due to that. -
Raj called me too! I ordered on the 19th with the 7970m. I got the fastest shipping option and the email says it will ship in 24 to 48 hours.
Here's the email he sent me:

Hey I'm new here. I ordered an M17x laptop from the dell website this weekend. It said the estimated delivery date was June 1st. Today when I was showing my friends It was easiest to show them if I just configured the laptop for them on the dell site, you know so I could show them all the specifics. But what I was surprised to see was that after I'd configured it the exact same way I got an estimated delivery date of 4 days earlier! Now I know 4 days isn't much, but I'm impatient! Haha. I can't wait for this thing to come! It's going to be a long month.
Anyways My question is: does this mean mine will also arrive 4 days earlier? Why would waiting longer give you a shorter shipping date I feel like that's kind of unfair. I'm not about to complain but like, haha I'd just love it to come here in 4 days less time! Also will this number fluctuate at all? could it be longer or shorter? Or are they pretty accurate about their date of arrival? I've heard some pretty bad horror stories about some really bad experiences customers were having.
Thanks for the help! -
I got pretty much the exact email minus this line: "....Your order no XXXXXXXXX is currently in the final stages of production and would be shipped out. The estimated delivery date for the order is on or before 5/25/2012"
Would be shipped out huh? What the crap does that mean?
Zomborgi, you'll get it WAY WAY before 4 days away from the estimated date. More like 2 weeks or so from the day you ordered. -
@BiH115 Awesome! I hope so. Thanks for the help!
-
I dont know Zomborgi....mine has been 5 weeks and counting. I hope you have better luck than me.
-
Didn't you have some cancelling issues and whatnot though? Can't remember off the top of my head, I remember some people dealing with those kinds of issues. Can't imagine it actually taking 5 weeks unless crap hit the fan. -
I found this forum through the speculation thread when I was wondering if I should return the M17x R3 I bought last month and I did. I reordered twice since regrettably I didn't at first have much faith in the Dell dude that said all Sandy Bridge m17x R4s would be upgraded with an Ivy Bridge.
Well, I've been lurking ever since the official annoucement that all R4's would come with an Ivy Bridge. Thanks, I also found useful information like never ever ordering online again. My second reorder I got about a 15% discount with upgraded 2 day shipping and a 1 year accidental insurance upgrade.
Anyways, for others that are waiting for their Alienware's like me I ordered a M17x R4 on April 30th.
Intel i7-3720 (first intel in about a decade)
12GB RAM (found out too late that you could upgrade laptops and that RAM is so cheap these days)
Radeon 7970M(ahh, back again to Radeon's. The Nvidia 555m didn't do it for me)
32GB SSD Caching + 750GB (once again, I wish I found this site just a month before I did)...
And the good news: I just received an e-mail with the receipt and I checked the order status to see it say shipped. Well, I checked FedEx and according to my tracking number it just says shipment information sent to FedEx, but no information on where it is right now. I'm in Southern California so last time the M14x came in 1 day, but this time it says the estimated delivery date is May 9th, so I'm guessing it's coming from Tenn or Texas or something. -
Ya, I did have to reorder, but I made my original order about 5 weeks ago. Which still means that I have been waiting 5 weeks for my laptop. And I am still seeing people receive them much earlier than me.
Joey, that is awesome that you are getting yours so early. I am kind of jealous. -
Meh, upgradeable or not (though cheaper), that system will fly.
On a side-note, again of course, I just wish they'd update the Order Status for some of us stuck in limbo, but that won't happen hah. Not sure what the point of a status page is if it doesn't get updated regularly.
I'm jealous too, and I'm going to tattoo it to my arm or SOMETHING, but for future reference, I'm getting next-day shipping, every single time. No matter the cost. -
Ugh thats pretty similar to my configuration Joey and I ordered on the same day. Order status page still shows that its in production
Reminds me a lot of the m11 rx1 order problems -
From what's been confirmed by some members, it won't change until you have your system in your hands. Haha. -
i'm at 0 rep, lol.
Maybe, it has to do with where you live. It says it was just picked up and it's coming from Hawthorne, CA, which means screw the 2 day fed ex delivery. It's coming tomorrow. I think people from Southern California should not pay for expedited shipping or even think it's that big of a deal when they upgrade you to it. -
YEESSSSSSSSSSSSS, my order has shipped gonna get here tmrw
-
Nice man. Take pics when you get it!
I'm torturing myself by checking back here every few minutes. Looks like it didn't arrive at my house today either. Here's to tomorrow! -
w00t Ordered mine last Tuesday and its shipped. Should have it tomorrow.
-
Next business day shipping? -
Yes sir They gave it to me for free.
-
I'm supposed to have next business day as well but I'm still waiting on Allan to get it implemented. Still coming up as 7 day. I ordered last wednesday and got put into production Thursday morning.
6gb ram, 7970m, 1080p screen, blu ray, stock hdd and CPU. -
ordered : 4/28
shipped : 5/7
est. arrival : 5/9 per fedex tracking info (2 day shipping)
YES!!!!!!
btw, mine is with 3820qm and 7970m -
Could someone who has the new R4 tell me what kind of RAM is installed inside?
-
Mine just shipped too. Delivery tomorrow before 3p. Mine is the 3820qm and 7970m too.
Finally!
-
Okay now I'm really getting annoyed. People ordering on the 28/29th (weekend probably didn't even get processed until the Monday) are getting theirs before me when I ordered on the 24th. Shenanigans!
-
Bought the wife a new laptop on Sunday. I have been waiting and waiting on new graphics cards and processors for 4 months and finally decided I didn't want to wait anymore for the M18x to offer 2 7970M's. This system will replace our 5 year old Alienware M9700 (it's been a good lappy).
Anyway, I purchased a M17xR2 as follows;
- i7-3720QM
- 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
- 750GB 7,200 RPM SATA 3Gb/s (gonna add a 256 SSD as main drive later on)
- 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M
- Intel® Advanced-N WiFi Link 6250 a/g/n 2x2 MIMO Technology with WiMax and Bluetooth 4.0
I figure it should suffice her for another 3-4 years. I look forward to tweaking it like I did the last one and helping to contribute anything I can to this forum
ETA on Dell's site shows June 1st to arrive at my door. -
-
I just got an email that mine was shipped yesterday. I am really hoping to see it tomorrow. I am glad that this ordeal is just about over.
This forum has been just like going to group therapy, getting to talk to others trying to cope with the frustration of the Dell support team. Its been great, haha. -
I just checked my email on my phone and it said it shipped at around 3AM or so, which is damn early. So I log on to the Order Status page and I see that it is indeed shipped, with an updated date of 5/10/12 for the delivery. Cool, cool, getting there.
Ok so I click on the tracking number for FedEx, and it says it's already in my hometown with an expected date of delivery for 5/9/12, also cool, one day before Dell's site.
Now, on the little loading bar at the top of the FedEx tracking site it's showing "In Transit" but with the bar halfway filled in RED, and it says "Delivery Exception".
I scroll down and it says customer not available or business closed. Not sure what this means. Does this mean they tried to delivery this morning, but i wasn't home? Means I missed it by 36 minutes if true. That or I'm completely misunderstanding it. Maybe the FedEx office was closed at those hours...? That can't be though.
Anyone shed some light on this? -
I called Dell and was told my system shipped on June 1st (lol). I was supposed to get NBD but got stuck with 7 day standard. Apparently my system has been waiting for pickup since Friday and will ship today. I'm expecting to receive it in 3-5 business days. So possibly Friday this week or early next week. Here's hoping this Friday. (ordered on May 2nd, confirmed the third)
-
-
What tazmision said, I had the same thing happen with the Orion backpack I ordered with the computer.
-
Ahh, that's what I figured Taz. I'm having a buddy who's got the day off today and lives up the street check out my door and see if there's a tag on there. Hoping that someone will be able to go and pick it up today since I get out of work at 6 unfortunately.
By the way, how's your status at the moment? Still no email? I was surprised to get an email at 3AM saying it not only shipped, but was almost in my town. Turns out it started in New Jersey, and made it's way to New Hampshire in a few hours.
EDIT: Update - Buddy checked out my door and said there's a tag there, that I missed delivery as I figured (Damn it!). Gonna call them up and have them hold for pick-up so I can grab it tonight on the way home from work, hopefully. I'm pumped! -
Nope, nothing. No emails/calls/updates from Dell. Order status stuck in production and my card hasn't been charged. Sent Allan (who I ordered from) an on Friday and still haven't gotten a response.
I don't know if I'm getting the short end of the stick being in Canada; but New Jersey is only about a 10 hour drive from me (who knows where my order will come from). The Dell Canada office is like 20 min from my house too for what it's worth. -
Jersey is about 2 or so hours from here, so I'm not surprised it was already out for delivery this morning over here.
I seem to recall reading not even a week ago that Allan was out sick, or something to that extent? Don't quote me on that, but I seem to remember reading that, pretty positive.
I'm sure it'll update for you today or tomorrow if it updated for me, and I wasn't even expecting an update on the status page. -
-
Do you know what brand of hard drives they use? SSD and HD? -
So, I canceled my order with Dell.com and went through aafes to order, instead of paying 2006 dollars i got the exact same configuration minus accidental damage for 1582.80. Pretty nice, I will wait the extra days to get it 400 dollars cheaper.
-
Just ordered mine, it says it is expected to be delivered at 06/04/2012.
Do they usually deliver on time, or sometimes got delayed? -
-
They wound up doing a redelivery at 7PM and I received the package (happened to be sitting on the front step smoking when the truck pulled up).
