FedEx is known for "not being able to deliver" messages. I had way too many times this happened to me while UPS seems to be working just fine. What's even worse is that they never try to change the time of the second or third attempt. Most people are working during the day, but FedEx still insists that someone must be at home during the day or your package goes back. UPS is much better with adapting to customers needs. Just my observation.

I hear you guys, been reading some FedEx related issues on other forums when I saw the note this morning on the tracking site.

I ended up calling them just now on my lunch break and the rep. told me she'd re-route the package to the closest depot for me to pick up tomorrow night. The depot apparently is open until 11PM or so, so I'll swing by after work and pick up the package.

Not a big deal. It'd be nicer if they could deliver it sometime in the evening when someone is actually home, but whatever. No worries.

Edit: Just checked FedEx tracking page and it seems it was updated with a "Hold at location" note. Very nice. Can't wait to get it! I hope everything runs as it should and all the parts promised are there. Idk why, but for some reason, I always picture UPS and FedEx guys playing basketball with people's sh*t. Tossing boxes around and all that crap. Hopefully not reality, but you never know haha.

Damn, my other 2 dell items (orion backpack and a printer) came via UPS and they will actually leave things at my door. Are you guys saying the laptops themselves all ship via FedEx? Those clowns refuse to leave anything at my door, or make any attempt to deliver it when I'm actually home. Instead they make me come pick it up at the depot - which is 60 miles away...

I'd say that's not as bad as this. Check this out.

The estimated delivery date is 6/9 so:
"May 8, 2012 10:03 AMAt local FedEx facilityLOS ANGELES, CAPackage not due for delivery"

They have it, but they just don't want to deliver it. What the hell is that? This is what I get for the free upgrade to 2day delivery! When I ordered the M14x R2 (which I returned), I had 7day shipping and it came in one day. But, this, this is ridiculous... Fedex Express... pssst....

I received my cooling pad and mouse I bought from Dell through UPS, and it had to be signed for. My father was the one that was there at the time and he asked why it had to be signed for. We've bought computer parts from Newegg for instance valued at more than 2 grand and they just drop the parts off with no signature required. The UPS guy responded that they don't want to risk anything because there's a Dell sticker on the box. Lmao what? No no, Dell sticker has more value than my two 27" monitors. I hear you loud and clear.

The laptop itself is going to be delivered by FedEx however, and it's an "indirect" delivery, which means absolutely nothing. It requires a signature, but ANYONE'S signature works. The neighbor, your mother, a dog. It should be direct and it should be only the person who ordered it. Little ridiculous. I don't want packages going to my neighbor...

Anyway, if you'll miss the first delivery like I did because I wasn't expecting them to ship and deliver it SAME DAY within 5 hours in the morning, just call 800-GOFEDEX and keep hitting 0 until you get a representative. Ask to have it held at nearest depot and then get directions to that depot. You'll be able to pick it up next day like I plan on doing. Best plan imo.

Ugh this reminds me of why I hate fedex. I never had a problem with UPS. Fedex never seems to get it right. Still waiting for the package...

Yep, that is what I did with my last two FedEx packages. It works but is very annoying since the nearest depot is 60 miles one way, costing me $20 in gas plus 2 hours of time to get my damn box. It is almost worth taking a sick day to sit and wait for the delivery.

And they still may leave a note saying that they "tried really hard to deliver, but no one was home" - true story. I did it once and was actually online all this time checking on the delivery progress only to find out that status has changed to "Delivery Exception". Sure enough when I checked my front door there was a note from FedEx. So, I would advise against taking your sick day.

Haha yep, I've been there too. Sit home in the living room by the front door all day and the guy shows up during the 2 minutes you're in the bathroom

The better time to take the sick day is clearly the day after the computer arrives so I can screw around gaming all day.

I had to cancel my M17x order and reorder again. Heads up for everyone who has AAFES account, there is a huge discount on all AW units.
I got the same unit for much cheaper.
    $1256.75
You can't beat this price no matter what. Highly recommend to all military/vetrans if you are thinking about new laptop - check out AAFES today, I think this is one day deal only.

Damn. Ordered in the evening of 4/30 and mine shipped yesterday. They tried to deliver it today, which I would have stopped except I didn't get an email that it had shipped until 30 minutes ago

Now I have to wait until Thursday. At least I'll have it for the weekend.

Yeah, I could go pick it up tomorrow if I call up and hassle them but by the time I drive to the depot and back and get everything opened up and running it will be time to go to bed anyway. Fortunately it's only 'indirect' signature which means I can sign the door tag and they will leave it at the door on Thursday. I was thinking that they'd use direct signature.

Good looking out, I happened to have stumbled on this thread and I just cancelled and reordered my M17, and got it down to $1256.00 instead of $1580.00. I also have no problem waiting a few extra days. +Rep to you. ;)

Edit, BTW, just noticed we have the exact same build. Awesome.... :) And, the sale ends May 14th, to anyone wondering.

Good for us. That's a really good price over 40% discount from after tax price. Had to order M14x R2 for my wife (more like backup laptop for me :D ) as well.
I also decided to get SquareTrade 3 year warranty instead of Dell one (well 1 year comes standard) for half the price ($150 with discount from some really nice person on Slickdeals).

So according to dell rep system is shipped but they dot have tracking info yet and it could be up to 3 days to get the tracking info. So I apparently need to play a guessing game for when it arrives. They aren't even sure if it shipped yesterday or monday. Im gonna take a wild guess and say it could arrive betwen Friday and Monday.

A few people have mentioned New Jersey. Based on a quick search I think there's some kind of large Purolator depot in Edison NJ. Mine shipped yesterday morning; given a 10 hour drive assuming other stops/packages it should arrive to me today or tomorrow. Of course I could be totally off; and my order might not even be coming from NJ.

Mine shipped from what an earlier poster said, Keasbey, NJ, wherever the hell that is.

On an updated note, once I redirected my package for a Hold @ Fascility request, it took them roughly 18 hours (6AM) to update the FedEx tracking site. It now says "Delivery Exception" with a Redirecting to FedEx Office note. Then it seems an hour later it's at a FedEx facility in my hometown. Half an hour after that it's "On FedEx vehicle for delivery", which I can only assume that means it's on the way to the depot in the next town over (as the FedEx rep. said it would be on the phone yesterday afternoon).

I can't wait for after work.

Ya you will have yours soon don't worry. At least you know it's in your area. Mine is coming via Purolator rather than FedEx. Just looked up their depot locations, could be coming from anywhere. I guess no tracking updates is a good sign that it's at least moving on a truck somewhere rather than getting processed/sitting in some depot.

    Initially ordered April 20th.

Called Dell to ensure (before we knew the R4 only supported IB) that I'd be getting the 3rd gen processor, they said they'd cancel my order and change it to make sure I did...

Now it lists my order date as May 1st with an estimated arrival date of June 4th and it's tagged as "in production" still.

    ...sigh :(

Finally had some time to put it through some paces tonight. Boy this thing really flies, much better than the old C2D in my m15x. Ran 3Dmark vantage and got a score of P21951 :D Played some SC2 with the 7970m and it did not disappoint.
