M17x Order Status Discussion - Part 4

That sounds incredibly solid! I got mine last night around 7PM and didn't get a chance to do much with it outside of installing the AMD drivers and throwing up some anti-viruses/other protection.

I have to say, it's one of THE NICEST things I've ever owned, and that includes my car which was my previous "Nicest thing I've ever owned". The soft-touch finish is incredible, and it almost makes me not want to touch the laptop. So much so, that I'm going out to get myself a higher-end mechanical keyboard to go along with my mouse so that I don't have to touch it unless I go somewhere.

We need an R4 owner's thread! I've got pics!

 

My machine is out for delivery! I'll be joining you guys shortly. Gonna place my 128gb SSD in and set it all up with a fresh install. Woohoo.

Mine went out for delivery this morning so I'm working from home this morning waiting for it to come!

 

I felt like an idiot school-girl when I was opening the box. I opened it really carefully and could always feel my cheeks stretching because I was smiling so much. What kind of adult does this!?

It's definitely a special experience. I took the laptop out last and had my finger on my mouth just thinking what was inside, I know, why didn't I just open it. Once you take it out of the sleeve though I nearly peed myself. Haha.

I ordered an R4 lastnight. Was going to order a pair of 7970's from upgradeyourlaptop, but for only $92 more I got i7 3720, 500GB HDD, AMD 7970M, DVD Burner, 1080P 60Hz, 6GB RAM, Intel N 2230, Win 7 HP. Couldn't pass it up. So I'll pay with it for a bit.

It'll be my 4th Alienware. Had an M17x R1, and currently have an R2 and M11x R1. I'v ebeen spamming all over the boards about the deal I got lol.

 

Lmao yeah, I saw your post in another thread a few minutes ago, thought you got a pretty good deal.

I want to get a pair of 128Gb SSD's to throw into my laptop though. Maybe use the 2 other drives I have in a caddy, hmm.

 

Got my system! Showed up promptly at noon. Gonna start setting it up and basking in its glory.

 

Ordered today thanks to you all. It'll be replacing a 17-inch MacBook Pro. While I loved the Mac's industrial design and usability features, the inability to upgrade anything other than the HDD and RAM meant that it had to go.

Reading this thread and seeing how excited everyone was about the status of their orders made me feel like less of an idiot in buying such a potentially goofy looking laptop (remember, I'm coming from the Mac). Thank goodness you can turn off the AlienFX.

Now the wait begins. My date is May 24th. Just in time for Max Payne 3 though a bit late for Diablo. I do hope I'll see it sooner.

 

Mine finally came. Missed the delivery but went and picked it up. I finally can stop complaining about it not showing up yet!

 

TMoney, you should be receiving it much earlier than the EDD. It was about a week turn around time for me.

 

Dell just changed my EDD to be 5 days later, was originally scheduled for yesterday. I guess Australia not so lucky with delivery times

NO location is lucky with delivery times...it's a total crap shoot IMO.

 

My EDD is still tagged as June 4th, but it was shipped on Wednesday - so, go figure. I guess we'll see just how long shipping takes to Canada.

 

Ya the EDD means nothing. I ordered mine on April 24th and people who ordered after me got theirs before me or at the same time.

My guess is they build the machines and then group them with machines going to a similar geographic location. Once they have X many built/or end of some time period; they ship them all together.

 

Pretty much. I ordered 24th, got my system the 8th. You probably won't see that it shipped until a day before, if at all. I'd advise you to resist the urge to look at the Order Status page, because it's garbage and they basically don't update it as they should. Wait on an email notification that it shipped instead.

Also what's up Taz! How's the laptop?

 

It's good, haven't had a chance to really test it out yet. I was busy last night so all I've done was set it up on my desk. I didn't bother installing games/programs since I'm going to have to reinstall windows once I put in my SSD.

How about yours? Did you have a chance to play with it?

 

I've installed anti-virus programs and other menial things like Skype/Mumble and assorted drivers, but other than that, no, not really. I'm going to start downloading a few Steam games tonight and really let it rip this weekend.

On the other hand, I've been messing with the FX alerts and lighting scheme a lot haha.

 

Still nothing. Ordered on May 2nd. AH!!

So about how long does production take? That is, how long between ordering and it being shipped out?

Nope, it came in a little cloth pouch and had a mousepad of sorts in the accessories box. You got a hat?

 

The R3 came with an AW hat. Seems the R4 doesn't. That's kinda lame.

 

I did not get a hat... i remember watching unboxing vids on youtube tho... so i was expecting a hat! lol oh well

 

I think the better question is who in their right mind would actually wear the hat outside of their own home?

 

Ya, no hat with the R4. And ya who wears the hat anyways? I never would; and all the unboxing videos I've seen everyone says they'd never wear it either.

Went black again. All in all a nice upgrade. got it for $2075 out the door.
talked the sales guy into free warentee upgrade (accendential damage)
and about $50 bucks off with free shipping of course.

initially ordered the 24th of April, but I called to ensure I was receiving the 3rd gen processor, and they cancelled/re-placed my order on May 1st.

 

Sweet, so it sounds like about a two week lead time from order to delivery. Enjoy your new machine!

I guess that means I've got another week and a half (ordered 5/10).

 

How many different updates am I supposed to get between ordering and receiving it? I ordered on May 8 and there's been no word yet.

 

I got zero, it just showed up. An email came that it had shipped roughly 2 hours after it was delivered.

 

My 10 year old daughter loves the hat, even outside

She's soooo excited about the new R4 arriving tomorrow. Or at least it should. I received the email from dell, but the UPS page still hasn't updated. So I guess I'll just have to see what happens.

I had a buggy M17x R2, and some bad experiences with techs messing the system up even more so I ended up with a forced refund from Dell about a year and a half ago.

Now I've been running the XPS all this time and the IB and 7970 seemed like a good incentive to give Alienware/Dell another chance.

It will mainly be by development machine (will be maxed out with 32G RAM, 2x 256SSD, etc), but it is nice to play a game after work. And my daughter loves to customise the lights

 

It's sitting at home for me now....1PM...I'm knocking off no later than 3:30 to go get my hands on this sucker. Gonna play around with it for a solid month or so before tossing in an SSD.

 

Mine is used primarily for school these days. Haven't had a lot of time to game lately.

 

You'd better be carefull! Once you put an SSD in, you'll never want anything slower. Be warned

Same here. I haven't been gaming for months, maybe even a year. Hopefully the R4 will pull me away from work

Updated to shipped but no tracking number. How long does shipping usually take?

 

My order from 7 May that I canceled on May 8th has just been shipped with EDD 4 June.

 

When I ordered on the 2nd, they told me to call in the middle of month to get a status update. What a waste of time that was.

 

Call them; they may have the tracking number already. I called and they had the tracking number before my page updated to shipped. If you don't want to call should be updated soon; around a day.

 

Another order from May 8th has just been shipped. So, all my laptops were shipped exactly one week after order has been placed.
