M17x Order Status Discussion - Part 4

So... I have a question... Currently, the EDD for an M17x ordered with the 7970m on the ALienware site is 5/25. Which sounds amazing. I made the awful mistake of ordering a Sager NP9170 with the 7970m on April 30th - I almost ordered the M17x back then instead, but thinking that Sager actually had the 7970m in stock, I went in that direction... And of course it turns out, they won't get the 7970 in stock till the end of May, maybe. And optimistically I might get that laptop sometime in mid-June.

So, given that the M17x estimated delivery date for an order made NOW is May 25th, I'm seriously considering canceling my Sager and getting the m17x instead. I'd really like to know if there have been any stock issues with the 7970m from Dell, have people already been getting those laptops, are the ship dates that Alienware/Dell have been giving out holding up... that sort of thing. Please? I really need info :[

 

It doesn't seem so. Pretty much everyone who's ordering M17x are getting 7970M and, from what I can tell, it only takes a week to get your machine shipped. Dell seems to have no inventory issues as of right now, I'm not sure about the future when Sager will get their share of 7970M inventory.
It's actually cheaper to get AW now than Sager, there are already couple of M17x R4 for sale on eBay with 7970M for $1750-1850.

 

Ordered mine on the 11th and the EDD is showing as May 28th. The rep on the phone told me it would take 10-14 days so Im expecting it to be shipped before the EDD.

 

Fantastic! Thanks guys. I am SO canceling my stupid xoticpc order and getting an M17x. What a joke. They won't even tell their customers when they're receiving their 7970ms - they insist that they do not know. I ordered my laptop on the 30th, and it's been backordered ever since. And when I ordered intiially, I thought it was in stock, since they were avertising the 7970m in bright red letters on their main page. Silly me, I missed the three tiny words at the very end of the order form for the 7970m that said "eta: late may". >_<

Sorry about that. I'm just sincerely frustrated. Hope to join the happy ranks of M17x users soon! ^___^

 

I understand, the waiting can be tough. Even though my laptop arrives tomorrow I won't be using it for another week after my exam, but at least I know it'll be in my house.

Ordered the second and still in production. Getting annoyed as people who ordered way after are receiving theirs.

 

Turn it on run a few tests to make sure everything is in working order though.

 

Well ironically, FedEx called and said it will be here tomorrow, which happens to be my birthday. So hooray.

 

I'm in Toronto too. I ordered April 24th and got it on May 10th. Many people who ordered after me (like a week after) got their's before or at the same time as me. Must be a Canadian shipping thing.

 

Yeah, I ordered one on the 30th and am still "in production" (live about an hour away from you in KW). I contacted Dell, and they said it was in the "final stages" ...I would not have been so anxious as I was expecting a June arrival, but all these posts with people having received theirs is making it difficult lol.

I should have ordered earlier, but I wanted to be sure there was no confusion on the Ivy Bridge so I decided to wait ...that, and the sales rep I wanted to deal with was on vacation Glad you received yours already Taz!

 

Ordered on May 8th. I have 7-day shipping and the EDD was June 4th.

Just got an email today saying it shipped. No tracking number yet and the EDD is still the 4th, which is way off if they really shipped it today.

Been there, hahaha. It'll arrive sooner than you think, possibly this week/next depending on your shipping. Mine shipped out at 3AM and was delivered to my house (I wasn't there, of course...) 4 hours after that (New England FYI). You probably won't get any notifications, and if any, they'll be sudden and unexpected. I also was upgraded to what appears to be two-day shipping for no reason. So you do get some additional services like that, for no cost.

I guess people are getting free one day shipping or something. Kudos to Dell/AW. Never thought it would take only a week between ordering and receiving it.

 

Not sure if it's offered on the American site, but Dell.ca has started a promo where you get Diablo III free with an Alienware system. I already have my new R4 system (delivered on Monday ), but Dell called me today and asked how everything was...I wondered why I didn't get Diablo 3, and presto, it'll arrive in in 7-10 business days (free of charge).

Alienware in the US is now offering 15% off of GPU upgrades. One day after I order my laptop. Time to call and make them give me the discount

 

Couldn't PM you, but I heard back from a Dell representative today and my item shipped yesterday. I had received no emails, nor has my account been updated, but I now have a tracking number and it is finally on the way ...now lets hope that yours is on the same truck

 

So my wife got the laptop in today. She had to take the battery out to mail the laptop to me. And i got teased by her for about 10 minutes with it. Worst time ever seeing her on webcam playing with my toy.

Any reason why there's such a limitation on shipping laptops with batteries (or batteries in general)? Probably security reasons...if so, nevermind.

I think I saw you post in another forum about your battery issue. I think you said you were in Afghanistan? If so, thanks for your service (this is coming from a 10-year Army veteran)!

 

I just called and was told mine ships out today. I ordered May 10th.

No updates on the website (still "in production"), but I'll go by the person on the phone. I bet it comes Monday or Tuesday.

Anyone know if expedited shipping gets you weekend delivery? I live in an apartment without a doorman so I need to plan on being around once it gets delivered.

 

I didn't think they delivered on weekends (even expedited). Maybe I'm wrong, though.

 

Typically Over-night shipping does not include saturdays. That is an extra service. Mine hasnt been delivered yet, so I cant speak to whether or not Dell adds saturday delivery, but I would guess probably not.

I just got the fedex tracking number and it looks like Tuesday . It would have been really nice to have it over the weekend, but oh well.

 

I have placed an order for the m17 R4 today, 6 June 12 is the on or before delivery date. Is this normally the day you get it on or does it come earlier?

Went for i7 3720, 8gb, 7970m, 750gb hdd.

 

People have been getting them slightly earlier.

For example, I ordered on the 10th with a estimated delivery by the 24th. My M17x shipped today and FedEx says to expect it to be delivered on Tuesday the 22nd, or two days early.

 

My order of r4 is day 4 pre production.. Dunno which parts are missing..

 

It 7PM and no sign of FedEx... Damn it. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I ordered mine on the 10th also, mine still shows 'in production'. and Fyi, it's been 'in production' for a week+. Est delivery May 24 and I guess thats when it'll ship.
