Mine is finally on a truck for delivery today. I don't really know why it didn't come yesterday seeing as how it was a 20 minute drive away, but oh well.

    So in the end:

    Ordered 5/10
    Estimated Delivery 5/24
    Actual Delivery 5/22

2 days early. That isn't bad, but its not amazing either.

My online date says expected delivery to be the 31st, but whenever I talk to the service reps they all say the 24th. Anyone experienced this before? which date of yours was accurate?

Just unpacked mine and got everything up an running... new SSD installed, moved everything over, etc.

Man, this thing is huge in person. I'm upgrading from a 17" MBP, and the M17x totally dwarfs it.

Ouch. That's a week out from mine. It's unfortunate with ordering custom rigs that you can't get it instantly.

How much work did that take? I'm wondering if it's worth doing a clean install once I put in the SSD...

Oh, its worth it. Just plan on doing it first right when you open the box.

Installing the SSD is as simple as screwing/unscrewing about 10 screws, and re-installing Win 7 only takes about 45 minutes. The only annoying thing is having to run Windows Update about a million times, but you probably were going to have to do that anyways.

Yeah, I know the SSD install is easy. However, I also have a 64gb mSATA boot drive so, as far as I can tell, the main benefit of the re-install is to get rid of bloatware, no?

Leave you boot dive alone and just pop in the SSD. There isn't any bloatware on the factory install.

Mine just shipped, new est delivery May 25 by 7:00. 1 Day after the posted estimated delivery date. I really expected a few days earlier, but it's on the road so....

There really isn't a ton of bloat out of the box as far as I can tell. If thats the only reason you are thinking of doing a clean install then IMO you can probably skip it.

It's the only reason that comes to mind. I mean, the boot drive means that the OS is already loaded on the mSATA drive (I believe).

Just a matter of being disciplined and keeping data (files, music, video, etc.) on the HDD and programs / applications on the SDD.

If you find some excuse to contact customer support about your order, there is a chance they will upgrade you to overnight shipping for free.

It happened to me, and someone else around here reported the same thing.

Not exactly! I contacted the support just to ask a question about the production stage. I didn't mention anything about shipping. The person I was chatting with brought up the topic himself and decided to upgrade me for free. (next day shipping)

The person I had was "Narjeet_S" He was really nice and answered all questions I had.

So the 24th has arrived. My order is still "In Production". I guess the 24th date they kept telling me was wrong. Lets hope it gets here before the 31st!

Side note, as of tuesday when the case rep called me to follow up on my discount they owe me, they changed their story and stopped reporting the 24th as the delivery date.

This wait is killing me!

I found a tracking info via reference of Dell Order Number on FedEx. It's stuck on 'Initiated' with Anticipated Ship Date: May 22 and Delivery Date: May 24. No tracking info whatsoever :( I guess I won't get it today?

When I had 7 day shipping my estimated delivery date was on 6/1. I then got upgraded to next day shipping for free. That estimated delivery date only changed to 5/30. I don't really understand how it changed 2 days less. You think it would change by almost a week.

Oh well. Ill get it soon. I'm still in production. Should be getting it shipped here in a couple-ish days. :)

When i originally orderd mine it had an estimated date of 6/4. Then for no reason it changed to 5/31. This happened before I was upgraded to overnight shipping.

So idk what is going on there, but I hope I get it before then. lol

I ordered mine on the 16th. Same EDD. Also, have you talked to dell about getting the 15% discount on GPU upgrades? (Assuming you upgraded your GPU) It went into effect on the 17th.

And which numbers did you use to track it on FedEx? I dont get any results (which could be because it hasnt been shipped), but i just want to make sure I am doing it right! :)

Order Number, shipping zip code (to), and country. I use the FedEx track by reference. If you dont get any result then it's not initiated/shipped yet. Still shows as In Production in Dell and Initiated in FedEx. Hmmmm

Oooooo 15% discount? Lemme read up on that. Did you order your's through Dell or AAFES?

Mine came directly from Dell/Alienware's website. The new discounted promotion started not even 12 hours after I ordered mine, lol. But the Dell people gave me the discount after I contacted them and walked them through where I found the promotion.

To find it go to Alienware's website and use the "Featured Promotions" section. Or click here.

    EDIT:
Just got a phone call from Dell! Mine will be shipping out in the next 24-48 hours!!

Finally have my M17x with me!!!! Its a little weird missing the battery on it though. RAM was tricky getting in behind the keyboard. I thought i was going to break the center piece. Now reinstalling/tweaking Windows 7 on the new ssd. Hopefully it will run SATA III speeds unlike the M14x R1 I had.

Whats your first impression on the build quality?

Ordered mine on the 11th of May and EDD is 5/28, got a call from a dell rep today informing me it will arrive either on time or a day late.

Its pretty solid. The only thing im seeing is the center piece you remove to take the keyboard off. On the back side is another piece of plastic and it looks like it was glued on. Well when i pried it off it separated the plastics just a hair, now when the center piece is seated it is raised up a little bit on the side. Be careful removing that. Other then that i have nothing wrong with the laptop. I peeled the windows stickers off with my nail as soon as i opened it. It didn't leave any residue and pull the coating off. I love alienware products, I do not understand why people knock them.

Finally some tracking info showed up on FedEx's website. We are now in the process of "Initiated". It says anticipated ship date of yesterday and anticiapted delivery date of today. I cant imagine that it actually going to happen. Dell probably hasnt even delivered it to FedEx yet. Now I will have to wait until after memorial day! Damn holidays :p

:)... I'm sure the 3rd Generation i7's have something to do with it too.

On a related Dell point, I think it's interesting that there are huge savings on the 17inch Dell XPS line right now - my guess is because they want to clear out inventory before replacing the i7 in that line with a 3rd generation Ivy Bridge instead of 2nd generation. I like the XPS line, but they can't compete with the Alienware line for gaming.
