    Hi Guys,

I ordered a brand new M17x from Dell UK on the 9th Dec with an expected delivery date of the 21st Dec. The anticipation is killing me!

When I placed the order, my credit card showed a pending payment and the order status went to 'Order Processing' then 'In Production' 3 days ago. However today the pending transaction has disappeared and my credit card shows no sign of anything from Dell. Order status on the Dell website still says 'In Production' though.

Anyone else had this issue? Is it normal? I would hate for the order to be cancelled this close to Christmas,

    Thanks,
    Tony.

for those of you who ordered an SSD in your m17x.. can you confirm that it was installed in the hd slot 1 ?

According to a post by slickdude.. the DELL staff install them in slot 0 which is suppose to be less reliable for an SSD

(i just got a confirmation my alien is delivered today, yesssss!)

UPS delivery date is set for Monday, which is 2 days earlier than planned.

I used the 2 x 15% off and free delivery vouchers that stacked as was mentioned on another post in this forum. Almost 30% off is an absolute bargain.

The specs of mine is as follows (I'm planning on buying and fitting my own SSD):

    Processor : Intel Core i7 Processor 2670QM (2.20Ghz, 6MB, 4C)

Well I expect that it was an unintentional glitch, but on the UK Dell website it was found that two separate 15% off voucher codes could be applied to the same order, to get nearly 30% off the price of a new system. That together with free carriage and the newly reduced GTX 580m gives a real bargain!

Is it usual for an m17x to do a world tour before it lands at the destination country.

So far mine has been shiped from
    China->Korea->Germany->Kazakhstan->Germany->Kazakhstan->Poland->Germany

It aint got anywhere near the UK yet.. :(
    Delivery is due before 23/Dec

don't worry. mine went all those countries and it managed to arrive UK within 36hour. btw. don't keep high hopes with delivery within the same day, because it's Christmas time. you might have waste two days. ups customer service is really great except depot guys who lost my package for two days.

Im a little concerned that mine is not going to turn up tomorrow any more. The UPS tracking page no longer says 'On time' and there is no scheduled delivery date, it just says 'in transit'

It only just left Dubai 2 hours ago.

Oh well, should still get it by Christmas.

I ordered mine on the 9th Dec, with scheduled delivery on the 19th (although likely to be a day or so later), so about 10 days.

Weird. I suspect thats some UPS logistics software been put to good use there. That, or they lost mine in china for a day and had to ship it by a different route.

I would have thought yours is still favourite to get to you tomorrow if it is in London already.

they choose cheapest delivery route, so different routes is normal thing in courier services.

usually it'll arrive destination within two days unless it's weekend.

Mine landed half an hour ago, 2 days earlier than the dell website indicated when I placed the order.

It's my first Alienware computer and without a doubt the most gorgeous piece of computing kit I have ever used!

Just ordered a new M17x from Dell. Ordered it first on Saturday, then noticed from reading on here that the 15% vouchers were stackable, as well as the free delivery that I missed out on. So cancelled that order this morning, and straightaway placed a new order, saving 30% off the listed price. Wouldn't normally bother ordering and reordering but it's a lot of money. Estimated date for delivery is 3 Jan, can't see it being much before then, with Christmas getting in the way etc. etc. Very excited though!

no one can confirm or deny it, it happens pretty much at random :D I am not getting any, but that is because i am not overclocking, i guess everybody who overclocks are doing some bios tweaks, widezu has nice solution to prevent the throttle, check his sig

So you mean that only some cards have this issue or that the throttle happens randomly?

    Intel Core i7 2760QM 2.4GHz (3.5GHz w/Turbo Boost, 6MB Cache)
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (4DIMMS)
    17.3-inch WideFHD 1920x1080 120Hz WLED w/ NVIDIA 3D Vision Bundle
    2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M
    500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s
    Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
    Killer Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO Technology
Soft Contracts Consumer Accidental Damage Agreement for Alienware
    Warranty Support, Initial Year

    $2,206.05

I am considering getting a 6990 and removing the 3D screen but dell told me i have to pay a 100$ extra... for a downgrade ? Still considering it though

if you want to overclock, I guess do it, otherwise 580m is already enough to max any game nowadays (except metro 2033 and crysis 1), otherwise I think it depends on the paste job by dell tech, not the particular card, the cards should be similar in performance

I don't plan to overclock anytime soon but I do move a lot and will most likely go to lan parties etc, I am worried about the throttle and I don't think I will have the privilege to setup the laptop as people describe most of the time

I will go with the ATI, stability over performance I guess
As for testing the system, I don't think I can do it and return it. I will be shipping it to the UAE directly where I will pick it up, shipping will cost a lot...

Firestorm, I ordered a 580m that arrives in 11 days(edit:this is an awesome part done by the shipper, purolator) - there's throttle. I think everyone who buys from dell a m17 with 580 must know that there is full chance of throttle.

I managed to fix it with:How to remove bios GPU throttling for M17X-R3 580m with or without 120Hz screen, I'm a complete newb in modifying computers- took me time but I finally unleash the potential of this beast.
