They threw in second day shipping for me too, did anyone else get their gift card to spend on their site as well, they said mine would be around $95.00 and $30.00 off Military Veteran discount.

I hope so, Memphis is Fed Ex's main hub, if it comes Fed Ex, my EDD is 6/13, you spent some jack, I opted for the pretty much the basic. I am a hands on kind of guy, used to build towers for people years ago. So I am going to get into the nuts and bolts of this thing. Got plans for a Samsung 830 ssd 256g for OS and maybe a game or two and a RAM upgrade to 8, maybe 16. Oh and by the way that's my order face <-------....

I am getting the student discount for a $200 ecard, and a 5% ecard + free 2day shipping with dell advantage. I complained some and they are "supposed" to process a $100 discount after I receive the computer.
I paid $2,281.73 after taxes for basic m17x plus nvidia 675m + 3d screen. After I sell the cards to a place that buys gift cards ill be looking at roughly $1904. I was searching on the forum and someone mentioned a place that buys gift cards, does anyone know the site? Thanks.

Im fairly technical myself (I was considering building) but such a new goodie I dont want to open it for atleast 3 months... probably upgrade 2 more sticks of 4gb ram ... and possibly a cpu and/or gpu like 3-4years from now... hard drives and stuff (750gb+32caching ssd) will be plenty for me because right now my laptop(granted its not gaming quality) is only 300gb and I've only used about 40gb. Good luck on your order being speedy =D

I purposely didnt get that because amd was cheaper + more powerful and 3d wasnt compatible with amd and I kinda wouldn't use it, just like blue ray so I think it was a good move to save some $$$

Pretty much the same. Not to mention I dislike 3D, but even if I was okay with 3D, the fact I couldn't get an 7970m was a deal breaker.

Nothing, if that's what you want, as is said below.

I don't particularly like either company - but I do want the best performance out of my card, and right now that's the 7970m. If you don't like AMD and don't want it out of principle, that's always your choice :)

I agree.

On the subject of upgrades, anyone know if you have the base RAM configuration whether they put the DIMMs on the bottom cover side or under the keyboard?

Or what configuration they use (1 6gb stick or 2 x 3gb)?

Also, do they include a SATA cable in the empty drive cage?

Thanks!

They're in the bottom slots, behind the back cover, 1x2gb and 1x4gb.

And yes, I believe the second drive bay is ready to accept a SATA drive.

To answer the first two questions you had -

-> The base ram sticks are installed on the bottom side.

-> It comes in a 4GB+2GB setup. 3GB sticks don't exist man :p 1GB modules are the only odd-number modules that exist, to the best of my knowledge.. computers with 3GB ram come with 1GB+2GB..

Got mine today!

Called the courier in the morning. They said it hadn't arrived in my city yet, and that they expect delivery tomorrow. 5 minutes after I hung up the phone I got a call from the lobby saying there was a guy here with a delivery from dell..

Woot. So far I've installed chrome and logged into steam and that's about it. Can I assume dell has already updated my drivers etc?

Is there a thread somewhere that lists things you should do/install to a new M17x?

Also, I's like to setup networking and transfer large files like diablo 3 installation etc. I heard there was some program that behaves like remote desktop but also does file transfers etc. Does that ring a bell? I need something like that so if anyone could recommend a program like that please do :)

Just checking in to see if there was anybody who ordered on the 31st of May (US) and on the phone... what EDDs did your reps give you? Mine said the 'official' date he can give me is the 20th of June (free 2day shipping, so it ships on 18th) but he told me to expect it much earlier than that.. so, anything you'd like to share?

Their quotes are usually ~12-16 days, and most of the time they either ship early or late, seems like very few units actually hit on the EDD, so you might get lucky!

I am wondering how is Windows 8 upgrade offer going to work for custom built laptops. The upgrade offer began on June 2nd and any laptops purchased before don't count. But with Alienware does the shipping date count as purchase date or the date when you placed your order?

Hmmm...I ordered on the 24th with an EDD of 6/8. Similar specs, too. 3610QM, 7970M, 750GB HDD & Killer Wireless were the only upgrades I had. I did get the 3yr extended warranty, but can't see that impacting when it would ship. No shipment notice yet, and I have been spamming my order status page to see if anything has changed. I did get an e-mail talking about how easy it is to transfer my old data to my new computer, so I've got that going for me.

Oh well, as long as it gets here by Friday I will be good.

Everyone needs to also take into account their location and what factory is building their system.

Lets say you and your neighbor both order the same build at the same time. Your order is sent to "X" factory and his order is sent to "Y" factory. Depending on the current que at each factory and if they have all the parts available, will depend on who gets their system first.

There is more than one factory that builds these systems. I'm not sure how Dell chooses whose system is built where. I ordered mine while I was in North Carolina and my system was being built in China. I've read people from overseas having their systems built in the US.

This is absolutely true, and there is more than one factory in the US. Mine came out of California and I know there seems to be a Texas and at least one other factory.

What do you mean check the usual stuff for issues? Is there a known list of issues to check when you receive your M17x????? I would hope a system in this price range would come flawless.

From what I read people had there m17x arriving with some minor issues which can be fixed via software updates. Like sound card issues. Touchpad issues.
but some people had issues when trying to boot the system with the dedicated graphics only, optical draive not working, usb ports not working and overheating like noobzpro said. And dadealus as far as I know there is no known issues list.

noobzpro these are the things I checked so far, these checks that I did are based purely on what I think is necessary. I will do some bechmarks once I get all my software installed -

the optical drive for palyback
switched to dedicated graphics only and ran unigene heaven
transferred files from usb 3.0 and 2.0 drives to and from the laptop
Played music with the built-in speakers as well as using a headset
ran gpu-z and cpu-z to comfirm the correct details
all the keys in the keyboard to see if there are any missing inputs
tried all the options in The Alienware Command centre

So far the only issue I have is that my "Alienware" light on the display is not working all the other lights are working perfectly. I'm trying to find a solution for that. I'm sure its a software issue and can be fixed without having to call tech support. I'm on the process of updating all drivers. I will post on the progress later.

Ordered 5/26 with EDD 6/11 - Still In Production

>>>Just canceled my order. I have found that the r4 is way too expensive and much more than I actually need though thoughts of the 7970m and its raw power makes me regret it just a little bit LOL. The games I play should run fine on the new system.

New Order: HP Envy 17
w/ i7-3610QM & AMD 7850M

Games Run: SWTOR, Supreme Commander, Star Trek Online
