M17x Order Status Discussion - Part 4

If I'd really have to choose a cheaper laptop then an Alienware model, I would go for Asus or MSI(from the *best known laptopbrands, so leaving clevo/bto/..aside) due to multiple bad hp/acer purchases in the past 5-6 years(loose lcd cable from day one/artifacts on a nvidia go 7600/overheating>BSOD's)=>talking about 3 different laptops, luckily all were in warranty. had one acer I never had to send back and that's only because it only had a runtime of +-12 hours, since i got an m17x2 as graduation present.


But if you did good research about the envy 17, you shouldn't be worried and I hope you'll like it

 

You warm my heart, sirs Seeing as I was one of the first to buy it with an ESD of 18th June, I hope to get it much sooner than that with the first couple of completed units. My rep told me to expect it earlier than my EDD of the 20th but couldn't 'promise' anything officially haha

 

I don't see this as a wise choice.

HP's Return Policy is way better than Dell's Return Policy. Dell has the option to charge a 15% Restocking Fee. I think both co's pay return shipping fee.

If the HP Envy 17 does not work out for me, then I will simply return it and then go ahead and order the Alienware or Sager/Clevo. Hopefully I can get the same or better price if I go that route.

 

Dude, you seem to know what you're doing and I trust you wouldn't have gone for the HP unless you had specific reasons.... if you are saving on the HP, there is no reason why you should not go with it... just make sure to get rid of all that HP bloatware that comes preinstalled

The M17x... well that is an overkill for a majority of people anyway, and a want more than a need I need mine because I..er... game a lot (hahaha jk) no but seriously, because I need a better computer for my graphic design work besides this crappy elitebook, and I always wanted an alienware. If you are saving a lot on that HP, go for it; its definitely a great brand and a great laptop and though you might not be able to game on max settings, wth you can game for the next four years easily on medium settings at least. good luck

My m17x R4 came today! It would have been here sooner if we did not have a double bank holiday here in the UK this weekend for the queens jubilee..

 

Any updates? Mine is also still "in production" with an EDD of 6/8. I have owned nothing but Dells since 2000 and (like you) have always received them before the EDD. Looks like that streak is over. I guess sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes he eats you.

 

Still listed as "In Production". If it doesn't ship today, that would be a first for mine not coming early. If it's the same status tomorrow morning I'm going to call.

Yup, just placed my order about half hour ago. I was gonna wait a few months and do a SSD and RAM upgrade, but can't pass up this price.

 

Yep that is a crazy good sale. Amazon price matched it off the Newegg sale. I just bought one, which will probably delay ordering my M17x by about a week, but who cares! I had to jump on it at that price.

 

The HP Envy 17 was actually my first choice for my gaming laptop before I decided to spend more and get my M17x. While I can't really compare since I've never played around with the HP Envy 17, I can say I'm glad I got the M17x instead.

I also play SW:TOR btw and it runs beautifully on the M17x.

That might just be a regional thing. I just spoke with Dell and was told my system was in route to FedEx and I will get a shipment confirmation once the shipping manifest generates. He said the EDD of 6/8 was still good.

I have no idea where it is shipping from. I guess I should have asked...doh!

 

I'm going to call in a little while then and check on mine since I'm still showing "In Production".

And amen to that. I remember EDDs 3 weeks out and getting the order at the end of the week instead. As long as they don't miss my date I can't really complain, though.

 

I ordered my M17x beast last weekend but it has 4 June for order date but the monday and tuesday were bank holidays so I doubt much got done. EDD is 27th June and I'm down as Pre-Production. Hopefully they pull their fingers out and get it to me quick time.

 

Guys the order status webpage cannot be trusted! Do call ur local dell support for actual status. I ordered mine on 25/5 and going to receive it tomorrow finally! Erm should I update things like the bios to the newest one upon receiving if its not up to date yet?

Ordered yesterday at 1pm, checked today at 7am and i am already In Production, its great having an already verified dell perfered account.

 

Ordered mine on 5/30 EDD is 6/13, I called Dell and they confirmed 6/13. Can't wait for it to get here, I have the Crucial M4 256gb ordered and should be here a day or two before the computer does. Gonna make an image of the hard drive, remove it set up BIOS to AHCI for the SSD and fresh windows install.

 

Bios should be up to date (unless they release a new one while yours is en-route). Otherwise it wouldn't hurt to update drivers as they are released ...especially video

 

Ordered on the evening of the 29th. Edd of the 12th. Just called and was told it completed testing and was prepared for shipping yesterday. Should ship today!

Lol, I canceled my order successfully (supposedly) over the phone and now the item has shipped. Weird.

 

i think you are right but dell said the factory have no more stock for one or two part and it is still in production but I have called and they said my laptop is at its final stage and have to be ship tomorrow one other week again.

Recap: Ordered 5/26 with EDD 6/8. Not early for the first time, but I'll take on-time delivery over a delay.

If you did overnight shipping, FedEx delivers on Saturday as part of their overnight service. I've received on Saturday from Dell before.

Hmmmmm "ringing hands", I ordered mine on the 30th and EDD of 6/13, I live in Memphis, so if it ships from Nashville I think I could possibly get it early. Sure would be nice Crucial M4 will be here Saturday USPS.

 

That stinks. It sounds like maybe you were at the end of the queue of folks with an EDD of 6/8 and that is why you ran into the delay. That is just me guessing, though.

True that. Mine is still "In Production". Apparently it is waiting on FedEx to acknowledge receipt of the package. Joy.

Disappointed with workmanship.....the case was not sealed properly, lid not aligned with the base and bad paintwork....emailed them with pictures and they are going to do a replacement....am asking them whether its possible to get a made in usa set....btw while waiting for replacement do i keep the current unit first or they will send for a pickup soon

Yep, call customer care and cancel your current order and ask to be transferred to sales to purchase a new system.

So long as your item hasn't shipped yet, you shouldn't have a problem.

EDIT: The m17x just got cheaper by about $50 if you get the $1899 configuration, which pretty much already has everything one could ask for. LOL, at least if I decide to return my Envy 17, I can swoop in on this deal!
EDIT 2: Oh wow, and that $1899 configuration comes with the Killer Wireless... impressive price especially if you are a student and can get: 2%, $50, 5% Advantage GC, and $200 GC. You no longer have to buy your own RAM either since it already comes with 8GB.

 

So, here is my latest tale of woe:

As I posted before, ordered on 5/24 and was given an EDD of 6/8. On 6/6 I noticed pinnapplespin's post about a slight delay for those who had an EDD of 6/8. Noticing that pinnapplespin is from Canada, I figured it might just be a regional thing, but I e-mailed my rep just in case to check on my order status. Rep was out of office, but spoke to one of his teammates and posted what I found out here. In short, EDD of 6/8 was still good. I even received an e-mail follow-up from my rep pretty much stating the same thing. So, I arranged to take 6/8 (today) off from work to wait for my laptop as it is a hassle to try to pick it up from the FedEx depot. I woke up this morning and checked my order status and it still says "In Production" and EDD of 6/8. Concerned, I contacted a Dell to confirm that my order was still to be delivered today. Lo and behold, it did not ship. Apparently there is some kind of quality control issue (not sure if it is with FedEx or with Dell). Oh, and order status page still says EDD of 6/8 and that the system is still "In Production". Needless to say, I am not a happy camper. Even more upsetting is that I am now told that it will be Tuesday before I receive my order. As a performance improvement professional, I understand that this is a system failure and is not any one person's "fault". But as a customer, I couldn't give two figs about that. Even better is that when I try to escalate this further by e-mailing my rep's manager, I get her out of office message. Sigh. Normally, I would just blow it off, and roll into the office and just not take the day off. BUT, because I fully expected to receive my laptop today, I also arranged to have some furniture delivered (the whole "two birds with one stone" thing). So, I can't really do that. In the end probably my fault for actually believing what the reps said.

Not happy. Not one bit. Now I have to see if I can find my rep's manager's manager.

It's the preconfigured version that's 1899.00. It doesn't allow you to change it but in the bottom right corner of the config page where it gives you an overview of what's on the system, it's the Killer Wireless.

 

Maybe. Just want my laptop when it is supposed to be here. Working with another manager now trying to figure out what is going on. Their system says shipped to carrier, but there is no tracking number with FedEx. And still do not know what the quality control issue was/is supposed to be (if there even is one). If I can at least get it tomorrow, I will be placated (but not happy).

mildly OT: @StZu - Yeah, at least I can watch the Euros, so I guess that is something to be happy about.

 

All you have to do is threaten a return. I can't remember if you said you got 1-day or 2-day shipping but at this point, you will probably not get it until monday or tuesday. you MIGHT get it on saturday if you got 1-day but usually it takes a day for fedex to pickup the shipments.

I really believe that you should really pressure them for discounts. Tell them your situation how you took the day off work in order to be present for delivery. they will have to cave since they did not even inform you of a delay of your system until you called. I predict a 5% discount.
