    Lucky bugger.

I tried a few different reps and the best I could get was a 5% discount.
Also got 3 years premier service, I hope that's worth the money.

Last week Dell Australia had a lot of new and refurbished Alienware systems in the outlet, they had 2x m18x, 2x m17x and at least 6 m14x. They were on the outlet around 6pm (last time I checked was 5.30 and nothing was there), i ordered my m17x (would have preferred the other one but was already sold), and by the next morning every system had been sold but 1.
They currently have that last m18x with 675m sli and 2x 512gb ssd raid 0 and pretty much everything maxed out for 3800$.

Damn I had no idea about the refurbs :( That's actually a great deal with the two 512GB SSD's. On they're own there worth over 1k!

Just a question is it possible to extend the warranties with the refurb units like you can with the new systems?

If I find a good deal on there I might cancel my order on the new system and go for a refurb.

What system did you get and what did you pay?

No idea about the warranty for refurbs, the one I got was new! You should ask a dell rep about warranty. IIRC only the m14x were refurbs during that outlet sale, m17 and m18 where brand new (my guess: people who were over-excited about the new gt680m canceled their order for a system with 7970m).

Yeah the deal for that m18x is pretty cool indeed! I don't have that much money to spend though xD

    I got:
    3610qm
    8gb ram
2x 500gb hdd raid 0 (I'd have preferred a single hdd, then add ssd by myself...I'll have a spare hdd to sell after I upgrade to ssd+hdd)
    7970m
    dvd
    standard wireless
    w7 hp
Here in Australia price would have been roughly 2600$, got it for 1900$ from the outlet.

I do wish i checked their outlet few minutes earlier, the other m17x on sale had 6gb ram, 1x 750gb hdd and blue ray, was 80$ cheaper... >_<

Haha, I too cannot afford to spend that kind of cash :(

For reference my specs are identical to yours but I have one 750GB HDD (which I'll add an SSD to) and the upgraded wireless card. They had an end of financial year deal so I got a free upgrade on the GFX and 5% off so it was $2212 + $328 for 3 years premier warranty.

I would have gladly paid $1900 for your system and saved myself $300, the wireless isn't a deal breaker.

I'm going to check the website over the next few days and if a good deal pops up then I'll ask to cancel my order and get a refurb instead.

My order shipped today out of Texas, 3-5 days to get it to the border and then depending on which end of the country it comes up through another probably 1-5 days to see it at my door. So at least it will make it before I go on vacation.

That's cool, i guess they'll send you the barebone first, followed by hdd and ram and on the last shipping all the remaining components and software. DIY Alienware, yay!

Just got off with the phone with a rep referred by Rev and, with gift cards, managed to get 26% off with no haggling. If you count the cash back I get with my credit card with this promotion they have going on when you spend a certain amount (which just so happens to be the amount of my computer) I actually saved 41%. Now just have to decide between this and the *hides behind a corner* MacBook Pro with Retina.

Ordered 31st May, Shipped today, 14th June (4 days early), EDD 18th June.
Let's see how my first shot at alienware turns out!

Going off of just what you said I would GRAB that right now.

The new MacBook Pro... ha. I think apple is great and all, but this is time... That macbook is seriously overpriced, easily beats alienware in that department lol. It comes with a a GT 650m, the same gpu as on the M14x and that is miserably weaker than the 7970m. so if you want to game don't even think about shelling out so much. The only thing that impresses me about that mac is the 2880x1800 display and how slim it is. That said, a resolution like that on a small 15" screen is just pointless.

What config are you getting? Like I said, it sounds like you have a killer deal, what with 41% off as you stated. Just go for it. You get way more in terms of hardware for less than the MBP Retina costs lol.

Also everyone else, the only reason I didn't go through the outlet was because I was getting the Nebula Red version which is almost never available there lol. Otherwise, the outlet is the way to go to save some serious $$

    M17x R4 with i7-3610QM, 8Gb 1600Mhz RAM, 750Gb HDD, 2Gb 7970m, FHD 60Hz display, and Three-Year Advanced Warranty

The MacBook would actually be the same price because I'd have to buy an SSD for the M17x. And this would be my school computer and the M17x has over twice the thickness and weight then the MacBook so that's a huge consideration. Being my school computer also means that battery life is really important and it gets almost twice the life of purely gaming machines. Plus, I've seen the Retina display and it's awesome. And it really isn't over priced, I built a 15" Asus with the 650M on XoticPC with as close to the specs as the MacBook Pro with Retina and it was only marginally cheaper and was still almost twice the weight as well as having an inferior screen and vastly inferior build quality.

You know your computing needs the best. If weight is an issue, you don't need extra GPU power, and like the Macbook screen, then go for it.

Well, those were just the pros of the MBPR. The M17x will let me max games and play on high setting for years, it's user-upgradeable, has an accidental warranty and no need for Boot Camp. I have a few days to think it over, I'll have to decide by then.

I guess that question comes up when you're a student and you're (and everyone around you too, lol) trying to decide which one to go for with your saved up $$.

I'm doing graphic design and got my alienware for gaming & work. Everyone told me to get a mac because its "better" but I was like to hell with that (mad annoying. had a lengthy debate with another apple fanboy today who insisted that I made the wrong choice lol). Macs are great, I don't see why they are better. It's an either-or question - a matter of personal preference IMO. But I knew I wanted to game and the alienware was a win-win for me. Also I <3 Windows for life lol, Windows 7 has won me over quite like XP did 10 years ago :)

All that said, I agree with you since both these laptops differ in so many ways. Price is probably the only common ground ;) Its basically a matter of what you really want/need, others can only advise you (or as in my case, nag you ;) )

See this link. It all really depends on the driver and their route. My usual FedEx driver usually is in my neighborhood well before noon. A different driver delivered my M17x and he didn't get to me until about 2 p.m.

Have new drivers been released yet for the 7970m? Or is everyone still either using the stock Dell driver or the 12.5 beta ones?

Delivery drivers hate me. It's the second time within 2 weeks that an order I'm waiting for has an attempted delivery on friday while i'm at the shops, and of course they're closed on saturda....happened with the ps vita, and now my Alienware is waiting in a warehouse, alone, with no friends.... :[

Yeah, when I lived at my folks house the delivery drivers wouldn't even ring the doorbell... they'd just knock on the door, and if I didn't race over there in like 5 seconds flat, they were back on the truck and I had to drive halfway across town to some depot to pick my package up.

Now I live in an apartment, and they just leave the packages at the front office when I'm not around. UPS is a lot better about actually waiting for you to come to the door... FedEx doesn't even care, they'll just leave a notice without even knocking.

I ordered mine on 25th and I don't know if I will get mine even next week. This is borderline month long wait. I can't contact Dell directly about what the problem is and my reseller keeps telling me that they will contact Dell at some point in the future. At this point I am starting to regret having purchased from a reseller.

Just got my m17x r4 in today and man this thing is just phenomenal. Just got 6601 on 3dmark11 with the core at 950 and mem at 1400 with no overvoltage. this is better than a gtx 570 and is around gtx 580 territory. Also overclocked the i7-3820 QM a few hundred MHz's up and this is easily more powerful than my i5-2500k righ with gtx 570. Very satisfied that there are no bad pixels in my display. Only thing I want is a mini sub-woofer like the m14x has.
