I am beside myself with excitement! I have hit my overdraft hard and bought the m17x! i was going for the 14" but the pull of the 7970m made me spend, spend, spend! and im sure the 3" will be great! :p

i will put in my own sdd and up the ram myself....not daft enough to pay dell prices for that! :(

    edd - 20th July 2012 - not that long to wait! :D :D :D

Congratulations! I'm sure you will love it! You may not have to spend much at all to go to the next level. 6gb is plenty for a gamer unless you run loads of progs at the same time. As for the SSD upgrade, you can do it on the cheap and get a similar benefit as a second full size SSD.

Find a 64 gb Msata drive and put that in (doesn't have to be msata but this leaves the extra drive bay for future expansion). Then use the Intel Rapid Strorge software already installed to set it up a caching drive. You end up with only one drive letter and no need to reinstall windows. A guy here did it and said it was the easiest performance upgrade he had ever done. Won't be as fast as a dedicated SSD configured as a boot drive but he was impressed. IRST figures out what files are accessed regularly and moves them onto the SSD.

Hope the wait is not too painful :)

*waves* hellooo, I'm that guy :D

I purchased a 64GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD from Ebuyer for about £60. Honestly worth doing. Things just happen when you ask them too, immediately.

Tomorrow! Finally it is here. my order arrived UK today and will be delivered tmr! Can't wait!

Now I am seriously thinking, shall I upgrade the machine first? Or just enjoy it for couple weeks first? (I got a Samsung 256gb ssd from two weeks ago, and an intel 3820qm CPU)

    Any suggestions?

Just one. Use it out-of-the-box as far as hardware goes for a couple of weeks. You'll get a base point to compare what you do. And something to get into after the 'new toy' syndrome has waned ;)

Enjoy tomorrow - oh it's already today...

Man, my EDD is fast approaching, and I have heard nothing. No emails talking about delays, not update in status, nothing. Not sure if that is good or bad.... I still can't wait :D

It looks like it is goint to at least take the 15 days originally estimated unless something happens soon. I have not had the best of luck ordering from Dell, so I will feel better once I get some sort of update....

some of you have placed order after my order date of June 26th and are getting earlier EDD (mine is July 20th), I dont understand... I just called a rep and she told me I am at the last stage in the production process (she said there are 4 stages, I am at 4th stage), and she said there's no indication of delay parts. Is what she said even true to any of you? I hope she's not blow smoke up my and just trying to get me off the phone...

Ive got in touch with Alienware on twitter and they reckon - the status on the Dell page is slow to update. I have given him/her my order number and they will look into it. Just confusing how everyone is getting different answers.

I feel like I have been fed some bull from the rep if the Alienware guy comes back with a different outcome.

Tell you a few things I've noticed following this thread and from my own experience.

First thing, EDD is almost always, 4 weeks from purchase. So I'm going to assume that unless something drastic occurs, this will always be the case as standard, applied to all orders. At this point you're feeling ok about things.

Second thing I've noticed is that the order status page is not completely accurate and up to date. At this point you're slightly irritated with the lack of bang up to date information.

Third thing I've noticed is that during the pre-production stage, which always seems to be a longer then expected duration, most customers will make an enquiry with Dell. At this point you're wondering why it's taking so long.

Now, at this point you get a rep. The rep will "expedite" your order (whatever that actually means). This makes you feel slightly happier.

That rep will be in contact over the next few days and probably tell you that there is a delay due to parts, normally with no ETA. This makes you feel sad and disappointed.

Then you'll continue to look at the order status page. Suddenly it goes in to production! Happy again.

Next conversation with your rep is a few days later, telling you your order has shipped! You feel ecstatic!

Order turns up 3 weeks from order date.

My order date was 27 June, with an EDD of 12 Jul which is one day more than 2 full weeks apart. I have had no status updates or emails indicating parts shortage or any other communication from Dell. I hope that it shows up by the EDD, but if most orders really take 3 weeks, I have a whole other week to wait :(

    Man, waiting sucks!!!!!

    Howdy DanBoo85,

I have Next Buisiness Day shipping, so I would guess that they could ship it as late as tomorrow and still meet my EDD. However, I was thinking the same thing... All the info on Dell's site indicates if you hear nothing, all is well....... I am still checking my email and order status page constantly, hoping to see some update...... :(

I wouldn't complain if I were you, I ordered a day earlier than you (June 26th) and my EDD is June 20th. I have no idea how you were able to get a week+ faster than me, but be happy :)

We are in the same boat. I am hoping that the information the rep's have are not fully accurate.

    Howdy Funkybudda,

I won't complain if I get it by the EDD :D, but I would feel better about it if I had some kind of indication that I am going to recieve to on the 12th. As it stands now, I have no indication either way :(

Those are the exact dates I have as well -- ordered June 26, EDD July 20. Frustrating wait.

Dell actually called me this morning to let me know that my laptop is ready to ship and should do so in the next 24 hours.
