M17x Order Status Discussion - Part 4

Ordered M17x on Monday 2nd July with an EDD date of 13 July!

Im now at 10/07/12 and my Status is still showing "Pre-Production"!

Contacted a rep. I was told:

"I have checked your order status. The order might not get delivered on 13th of July as there is a part shortage for Alienware m17x. We would get the part on 11th July and then the order will be built and then shipped. You will get a email from the team with the revised Delivery date very soon."

I queried what specific part was the issue:

"The base of the laptop is Out of stock."

I was all ready and waiting for this Friday! Sadly, its not meant to be!

It would be interesting to know if people have included a personalized engraving on their laptops when they post about their order & delivery dates.

I'm seeing many orders made after mine with EDDs sooner than mine and wonder if my having ordered an engraved plate is what causes the delay.

 

I ordered an engraved plate. My rep told me that does not delay production because it is done at the same time and not after.

I did order an engraved plate, along with a Blu-Ray drive and the 7970m. My order date was 27 June, and my EDD (as of this posting) is 12 Jul. I am in the US, actually in Texas, so I don't know if that plays into it all either.

Finally after 11 days of being in pre production it has moved to being in production today!

 

Looking at all the recent posts about illogical delivery times I'm thinking it might boil down to a simple answer.

Demand has outstripped supply. With them all coming from the same factory in China, dell are having trouble making accurate predictions as to when youall get them. As well as machines for specific destinations being bundled together for shipment?
I hope you all get your machines quickly. All these sales for dell can only improve their commitment to the alienware brand

Just checked the order page, and it says my order has "Partially shipped" with a delivery of 11 July. What could they have partially shipped? I didn't order a backpack or anything? It should just be the M17x? Are the sending it a piece at time

Yea they are sending it flat pack and you have to build it yourself. Get your soldering iron and screw drivers ready.

Prob on it's way to the place where the engraving is done, then it will be complete - guess...

 

I order this morning and my estmated delivery date is 25 july going to be a long 15 days

It's shipping from Tennessee, going to Texas so it's not too far away. Plus it weights 21 lbs, so it sounds like it may be the laptop itself. Perhaps they are shipping the nameplate seperately? It's the only thing that makes sense. It sounds like perhpas there was a parts shortage, they got the parts on Mon, and were able to finish the build, but did not have enough time to ship it to be engraved? So I get the nameplate seperately? Just a guess, but I'll know tomorrow. I'll post an update....

Whoo Hoo!! It has updated again, and the entire order is marked as 'Shipped.' It is supposed to be here by 3 PM local time tomorrow. Total number of business days between order and scheduled delivery: 9

I see from a further posting you made that you got some good news! Yay!!! I got some, too. They've updated my status on the Dell site to "shipped" and I was able to get a tracking number from there. My beastie should be here on Thursday (7/12)!! Wahooo!! That will be almost one full week earlier than scheduled.

So note to everyone still waiting... don't count on much notice of a change of status, it can happen without much warning. I didn't receive an email about this nor a phone call as some have received.

Here's hoping many will find similar updates happened for them today!

 

Can I ask what was your system specs sir?

Specs are in my sig. I'm not a "sir", but I guess I prefer that to ma'am. Looks like we've ordered similar setups.

Got to looking at the Fedex page and the laptop was scanned in to their facility in IL before noon today. Maybe there's some hope I'll get it as soon as tomorrow, then.

Ordered 6/27, EDD 7/12 (2nd day shipping) so it would have needed to ship today.

Emailed my rep today and he told me that there had been a slight delay due to parts availability from one vendor. Said my machine is now complete and has been sent to the distribution center. He said it would ship "soon". Hoping for a Friday delivery but won't get my hopes too high for that.

 

I live in Alberta and wasn't able to get an engraved nameplate

I guess the nameplate really isn't a factor in delivery time. If you don't have the engraving done, do you still get a blank plate? You could probably take it somewhere locally & get a nice engraving job done. It seems odd AW won't engrave Canadian orders, though, doesn't it?

 

Like I said ealier its going to be a long 2 weeks for me haha wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have work but got to pay for this thing before I go to my last year of high school

If it's any consolation, I had to wait on whole parts too, but within a week stock had been replenished and my order was in production.

I am in that same issue with my laptop in production with the base cover of the laptop out of stock. My EDD is next week but its already been over 2 weeks of a wait for me.

 

They must of just gotten part's I had been in pre production for 10 days and then it changed to in production yesterday. Maybe others in the same boat.

 

I got my machine on Monday with a faulty 7970m card. Have to call dell to get it replaced! I guess it is just bad luck.

 

I'm sorry to hear this happened. How frustrating!

Here's hoping you get quick resolution on this so you can enjoy your purchase.

Yay! My Rep just called me saying my laptop is going to be shipped out today, so I should receive it tomorrow! One-day-shipping xD!!!

 

What was the fault? Was it just not working?

No rep. I just went to the Small Business site and saw one of three configurations has a $195 off so that sealed the deal. They should honor that for you but you will have to call and talk with a small business rep.

Congrats on your baby arriving! A day early as well...lucky bugger.

 

BOOOO still waiting on mine and all the rep's I call are no help anymore...

 

Don't normally quote myself, but after being told yesterday that I would not get the shipment tomorrow as originally scheduled...I checked the website and it does show it was shipped yesterday, with a delivery date of tomorrow. So I guess I'll get it on time after all.

Looks like 10 business days from order (ordered it very late in the evening so I doubt anything was done on it that first day) to delivery with two day shipping.

 

Just spoke to my Rep and my EDD date has been pushed back from 13/07/12 to... 24/07/12!

The rep was quick to add that he has spoken to his "Concerns department" confused and the laptop should be delivered soon.

No idea if that means it has a higher chance of coming earlier!

Guess i'll have to wait and see

 

I looked today and my 7/12/2012 has been updated to 7/24/2012, do you by any chance have the GTX 680M? Just trying to figure out what part they are waiting for.

 

No, im getting the Radeon HD 7970M.

Initially, I was waiting for the actual m17x base to come back in stock which are supposedly available now.

On my last conversation with them, I was told that there shouldn't be any further delays with my order.

Not sure how much the Reps actually know. My guess is they just try and soften the blow of your EDD getting pushed back.

 

I'm really upset because if I was willing to wait another 2 weeks I could have bought a similarly spec laptop from another company for less money. Actually one that would have better met my requirements.

 

I hope mine doesn't get changed. I'm on the fence about cancelling my order as it is - too much time to think on such a highly priced toy. If my EDD gets upped, I'll have to. :/

 

You'll have to? Money doesn't really burn holes in pockets you know.

No, but the plane ticket I have for an overseas move a few days after my current EDD means that if my EDD is pushed back there'll be a new person living in my home who would get my shiny new toy.

 

In that case feel free to use my address.
