M17x Order Status Discussion - Part 4

You are 1 day behind me so I have a feeling it will ship today or tomorrow.

 

I certainly hope so. I had to ween myself off constantly hitting the refresh button about a week in, but now every time I see one of you guys who ordered around the same time I did ship it sets off an all new frenzy.

 

I'm sort of regretting the purchase as now I spend all my time hoping that my time after work goes by faster.

 

I guess I'll stop lurking and post. I feel sick that i'm so caught up and distracted by this computer. I took me about a week to justify to myself that I did the right thing and it is worth the Alienware premium over Asus / MSI.

I head up the IT dept for a large company, I'm nearly 40, I have kids, however I feel the same as many of you, impatiently waiting for my new TOY!!

I find gaming an escape like TV is to the rest of the populous. It's more interactive instead of passive. And of course, Sheldon had the Alienware x17 R3 on TBBT, which has stuck in my head, as the ONE to get. Good marketing Dell.

Anyway I ordered on the 7/6/2012 - EDD 7/19 (next business day delivery).

Hahaha, I feel the same way too. I hadn't really planned to get a laptop at all then realized that I HAD to have one for when I go to visit my in-laws for a month this summer. So it first started with looking at the MSI GT50 with around a $1500 pre-tax budget, then I moved on to the Clevos and was this >< close to ordering a P150EM with the 7970m. But right then they were out of stock so I reconsidered and decided to go with a 17" as it gave me more hard drive space and screen real estate. That got me looking at the Samsung Gamer which was supposed to (still no definite word as of yet) be coming with a 7970m and a 3D screen. Since I had by then decided that if I was going to spend the money that I wanted 3D capability, I was left squarely with the M17x as my choice. I have now almost doubled my original budget but feel confident that I will have a beast of a machine. I have a young child myself but luckily also have a very understanding wife that realizes how much I like to kick back and relax with a good game and a cold beer. I had a scare today with my sales rep saying he would have to re-issue the order but I think (fingers crossed) that he figured it out and that I'm still on schedule for my EDD of 7/23.

 

How long can you go "work in progress"?
It has been 4 days and still "work in progress" ..... :-(

 

"work in progress aka in production" is the act of building the computer which is the longest step. After that it ships...

 

Understand, but what difference does another state "production".

 

Just a quick thanks in this thread now that my new toy has arrived.

I constantly checked this page to keep upto date with other people who ordered around the same time and felt like my pain was shared with everyone. It seemed liked a lifetime waiting! Feel sorry for those that waited longer and those still waiting. It is really worth the wait.

When i finally got my hands on my M17x R4 i really didn't know what to do...i kind of felt like the youtube video of the kid "nintendo sixtyfourrrrrrrrrrrrrr" or whatever it was. I spent the rest of my night just changing the colours with the alienfx control centre thing. Installing itunes and downloading various stuff and then installed a couple of games which i haven't had a chance to play yet.

I fell asleep watching the colours change on the keyboard with a smile on face.

this is just crazy it is July 17, I ordered the laptop on June 21, and it is still in production with an EDD of July 20, I dont think i will get it by then, but also what the hell is taking so long?

This is one really long wait, I usually here of a 2-3 week turnaround after this week ends it will be 1 month since the order was placed. What is going on?

Anybody can shed some light on this?

 

I think it's a conspiracy...I think when a Dell rep tells you he's going to 'expedite your order', what he really means is that now you've bugged him, and he's going to flag it so it doesn't ship out until it's EDD.

 

Guess it is about time to join the thread.

This laptop will be a replacement for my current Dell XPS M1710 (I'm on it ATM, still kickin' since July 2007!):

Core 2 Duo T7600 @ 2.33 GHz
4GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM (Original was 2GB)
128GB Crucial M4 SSD (Original was 200GB HDD @ 7200rpm)
1920x1200 16:10 17" Ultrasharp Screen (I'm definitely going to miss this resolution though)
NVidia GeForce Go 7950GTX with 512MB of "dedicated" RAM.
Blu-ray Burner Drive (Yep, even had this - although I've never burned a blu-ray disk with it yet)

So, can't wait! My EDD has been 7/20 and my order went into production the evening of 7/4 and has been there ever since.

 

Finally ordered. After way too much haggling, I got a deal I consider reasonable... and probably a big turd on the keybord when I open the laptop thanks to arguing over upgrade prices for days and days.

Order placed: July 16th.

EDD: August 2nd.

 

My laptop is currently in warsaw, Poland does anybody know the route from shanghi to the UK ?

 

Sweet. Any movement yet. I just asked my Rep to check on status and she shows the same as website. That means it should ship tonight / tomorrow-ish.

Let me know what your status is when / if it changes.

Too funny about your in-laws. My in-laws are coming on 7/29 to stay with us. That event was the justification of this purchase as they are staying FOREVER.

Good luck with you're EDD. I'm down to less than 2 days, my F5 button is pretty wore out.

 

My rep told me that there were "issues" with my build but it is still marked as in production. I was told that it is still on track for 7/19, though. (Thankfully)

My baby is being delivered sometime tommorow. It's been a long and agonizing wait but it's gonna be awesome!! So amped! Ordered 6/27. Original EDD was 7/16. Expected actual EDD 7/18.

What's your spec. It is probably one component that delayed the entire order.

For instance my rep said there were some delays on the custom plate, so I got a blank plate, as I will probably resell in 2 years. I also kept mine the standard 2nd tier config with the 680m as the only upgrade.

This is all speculation, but that would explain why you have a order date before mine and a edd after mine. What is your ship method?

 

Mines going to be delivered today at some point, the final wait begins!

Standard shipping to the UK, no tracking info yet but hopefully i'll get my hands on it before the weekend

Note: the EDD listed is the original EDD, as far as it is known. And ShSC is the date the order tracking status changed to shipped on the Dell order tracking web page. EDDc is the change of an expected delivery date through an order status update before the order switching to shipping status. So EDDc is not the date given in a Dell e-mail with the UPS tracking link, that one seems to be quite erratic. Wait a bit (a day) for the UPS link to provide you with a UPS estimated delivery date. With my XPS17 order, UPS estimated to deliver 30 calendar days earlier than the Dell estimate, UPS was right.

Just wanted to chime in, ordered my m17x 7/5 with a EDD of 7/20. After reading about people's orders having parts out of stock I emailed the rep if that might be the case with mine, he replied with no and that he'd let me know if something comes up.

Yesterday I emailed my rep asking of it was still on track to be delivered this Friday, no reply but I awake to a Dell email saying its been delayed until 7/26!!

On 7/5 it went into preproduction and on 7/6 it went into production and has been there since.

I see a lot with the same EDD with mine. I'm located in California, US.

Evoandroidevo: Great idea! Done. Please don't quote the list, it clutters up the page, and the quoted list is stale, whereas the original will be updated.

Blackeck2: If it's any consolation, in the previous few hundred posts there are some people whose EDD was bumped, some of them received it on or close to their original EDD, others weren't that lucky. The coming few days should be really interesting. If they are delayed, that would probably be disastrous for me. My EDD is 7/26 and he last day I can receive the package before my holiday is 7/27. Time to start praying.

sorry to hear about the delay, I have the same EDD as you. I just got a reply from my rep and he said everything is on track for me, estimated ship date is today (7/18) and EDD is 7/20. He said he didnt see any alerts or warning about delay for my order, hopefully I will get a shipping notification later today.

 

I understand that, just a bummer to have had my rep a couple days ago assure me it was on track. I leave for a month long trip on 24th, I really hope it gets back on track or I'm gonna be waiting quite awhile for it

 

My EDD is tomorrow the 19th. I have next business day, however since this is shipping from China, I would think that they would have shipped it on the 18th during working hours. It is 3am on the 19th in China, now. I am setting my expectations for a delay notice sometime today, unless they already shipped it and have not updated the status.

Anyone know what shipper they use for next business day from China to California, USA? I have already tried tracking via reference number on fedex and ups.

 

I ordered exactly what you have ordered, but on the 4th, with an estimated ship date of 7/18 and EDD 7/20.

Just talked to support - supposedly the black "bases" for the laptops are no longer in stock Quote: "End of life". I was asked if a red base would be okay? I said sure. Then I was told they will have to cancel the original order and recreate a new one...

I just went... double-you-tee-eff ? Now I just have no idea what the hell is going on.

 

Same here. I sent an email to the CSR handling my order, and he got back to me saying that -at the moment- everything looked okay and he saw no problem, but he sent an email to their fulfillment department (can't remember what he called it) requesting an update and told me I'd hear back from him either by end of business today or early tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what I hear either way.

 

Thanks Scrianinoff for putting together that list. Looking at some of the real delivery dates gets me all excited that it might be waiting for me at home already LOL. But then some of the posts after that scare me and I just hope I get it by my EDD

I didn't have a lot of money, probably wont for a while but at least got something Wish I could have at least upgraded my video card and screen but was like 400 dollars more lol. I think I will be happy as long as it's somewhat comparable to my gtx 260. think the 660m is guys?

The 660m will crush a desktop 260, and at 1600x900, the 660m should be able to run modern games on very high settings with good fps.

 

You'll be looking at a mix of medium/high settings with the 660m running 1080p. Some games like Diablo3 and Mass Effect 3 will run like butter on high/ultra.

 

He has the 1600x900 display.

 

I am in the same boat as you are but I am still marked as In Production. I really hope that it gets here before the weekend.

 

That is all I needed Until the next set of modern games come out, I think i'm set. I think it's coming pretty soon though. All I care about is 30fps-40fps and i'm good.

 

I was reading on a few forums about a week ago that people were having trouble and getting their orders before their orders even said shipped.

 

I hope that they forewarn me. My home is hidden from the street and every time I've gotten a package from UPS I have had to literally wait at the street until it arrives in order to ensure that I get it.

I geek-ed out and spent 10 min. to write a order status page checking windows app in C#.

I'm looking for a change in my EDD Date or a change in Status.

I have a task to run this every 5 min. If anything changes on date or order status, the console app will notify me.

If nothing changes before I leave for the day, i'll add a SMS notification to the app.

ALL SO I CAN QUIT CHECKING ORDER STATUS AND GET BACK TO WORK.

I wonder if this will be faster than DELL'S email notification.

So apparently the shipment has been delayed because of a missed delivery. Which is complete BS I was staring at my driveway for the past 10 hours. Purolator is garbage. If your in Canada demand UPS. My laptop was on the truck since 8am getting knocked around because the lazy driver prolly had to be home on time or something and my house was out of the way. I'm venting. I know. But I'm upset and hating on purolator shipping hard.
